Deja Vu All Over Again & A Fun Interview with Ashantay Peters PLUS a GIVEAWAY

I am extremely pleased to introduce today’s guest. Ashantay Peters is a fantastic author, with whom I have had the pleasure of working with on several stories as her editor at The Wild Rose Press.

Today, I am interviewing Ashantay, and she is sharing her new release. Enjoy…

Are there any tricks or habits you use when creating a story?

Do you mean other than sitting down at the keyboard and typing? Actually, come to think on it, I assemble jigsaw puzzles or make bead jewelry when I’m stuck on a plot point. Those two activities activate a different part of my brain, I guess, and I stop worrying about what’s not working in the book. When the weather is nice, I walk with a voice recorder, and more often than not, new ideas will pop up. Not from the bushes on the side of the road luckily–that would be scary!

What book have you read that you wish you had written?

Oh, way too many to list. I do have to end this post sometime, yes?  So instead of listing just one book, I’ll say I’d like to write like Jayne Ann Krentz! Both the novels written under that name and as Amanda Quick. Her books pull me in quick and keep me turning pages faster than a squirrel darting after peanut nuggets.

What do you want readers to come away with after they read Deja Vu All Over Again?

I write several different genres, but the one thing all my books have in common is humor. Our world is too filled with negativity, so my mission (and I did care to accept it, no “should” about it) is to give readers relief from stress in the form of laughter. I love to share smiles.

What genre have you never written that you ‘d like to write?

There are two genres I appreciate. First, Regency romance for the historical escape and second, science fiction/fantasy for the world building. I enjoy reading both genres, but understand I’m not ready to write either.  Doggone it. Maybe next year.

What celebrity would you most like to be stranded on an island with?

Carlos Santana. Yes, my tie-dyed hippie roots are showing.  I’d like to meet him because he holds fascinating spiritual beliefs. His life experiences run the gamut from growing up poor to traveling the world and meeting all kinds of other famous people. I think our conversations would be wide-ranging, and when we tired of talking, I’d be happy to listen to him play and sing!

Thank you for the fun interview, Ashantay. Hmmm, I keep hearing about Jayne Ann Krentz and I don’t think I’ve read her. I guess I need to remedy that.

Now, Ashantay has a question for you and she’s giving away a copy of her awesome book!

***GIVEAWAY!!!***

Who would you like to be stranded with – on an island, stuck in an elevator, in a desolate cabin during a snow storm – you choose! Or make up your own scenario. I want to hear names…fantasies…and what’s said here stays, well, on the Internet, so use discretion if you choose. But it’s more fun to let loose once in a while, isn’t it? I’ll be sending an electronic copy of my latest release, Déjà vu All Over Again, to a commenter.

BLURB:

Rock star Jack Reed has secrets. He’s kept his first marriage to a girl he met at Woodstock, and their son, under wraps for decades. Now his child has tracked him down wanting answers.

Former hippie Sally Ford never fully recovered from Jack’s betrayal of their family. She believes he put his career first then and will again, leading to another shattered ending.

Jack and Sally’s first meeting is combustible. Can they confront their past and overcome a history of deceit and manipulation to find peace and love?

EXCERPT

“And how is Sally, uh, I mean, your mother?” He wasn’t sure why he’d asked about a woman who’d torn out his heart, but too late to call back the words.

“I call her Sally in public, Mom in private. Can’t remember how that got started but it works for us. She’s fine.”

“She didn’t have a problem with us meeting?”

         “No, no, she’s fine.”

Jack knew bullshit when someone spun it, and Carlos wove a blanket. He raised his eyebrows. “Really? I figured she’d fight this get-together.”

“Nope.” Carlos chuckled. “Okay, she didn’t look happy, more resigned. Maybe a little scared.”

She doesn’t want me around. I can get down with that feeling.

“You’re not pissed with me or her, are you? For keeping quiet about my identity? The band hit crazy big on that first tour. She, we thought you’d be better off out of the spotlight.”

Carlos tilted his head to the side, and Jack recognized Sally in the gesture. “I haven’t had time to digest the information. I guess you both had a good reason for the charade, and even though I’m not pressing now, I’ll want answers.”

Icy fingers gripped his gut. “So my leaving did piss you off.”

         “Not totally.”

Jack held on to his coffee cup with both hands, happy his son hadn’t walked out yet. Sure, he’d signed away his rights to Carlos, but Sally had been impossible to find after she’d left. She’d made it clear—through lawyers—that he’d only screw up their son, and he’d believed her.

Then his actions had proved her right.

 ashantay

Ashantay Peters lives in the North Carolina mountains, the perfect location to escape into a well-written book. Her reading addiction also has her perusing magazines, newspapers, Internet articles and even food labels. The last is often feebly excused as an attempt to maintain health, but her friends know the truth.

Besides this sequel to Pipe Dreams, Ashantay has four romantic-suspense/mystery releases with The Wild Rose Press: Death Stretch, Death Under the Mistletoe, Death Rub, and Dickens of a Death.  She is at work on another book with an older heroine.

She loves to hear from readers and promises not to stalk anyone who contacts her.

“10 Moments that Changed My Life” by Mary Morgan – PLUS, Dragon Knight’s Shield

Please welcome today’s guest, Mary Morgan. She’s sharing the moments that changed her life and her latest release, Dragon Knight’s Shield from The Wild Rose Press…

10 moments new_MTE1MTUwNTQ0MTg

  1. My first airplane ride at 13 years. A fascination with traveling started on that first trip. Afterwards, I viewed airports as gateways to the world.
  2. The birth of my daughter at 16 years. Becoming a teenage mom turned my world upside down. I did not know it at the time, but she would be a powerful force in my life. I am grateful every day for this beautiful soul.
  3. Meeting my future husband on my first job interview. I took a leap of faith by going on this interview. The moment I stepped through those doors, the stars exploded. Yes, I believe in love at first sight. It happened with both of us!
  4. Planting my first garden twenty-two years ago. Gardening gave me such joy and a sense of peace. To this day, I still get excited over the first new tomato or rose.
  5. The birth of my first grandchild. The joy of becoming a grandmother was beyond my expectations. I learned to play in a completely different way than I did with my children.
  6. Taking a position as a bookseller with Borders Books. Previously, I worked for banks, advertising agencies, and in escrow. Yet, this was the most rewarding job ever. In addition, I met so many great people.
  7. My first trip to Scotland, Ireland, and England. I will never forget when my feet touched the ground in these countries. It was a déjà-vu moment. I left a piece of my soul in each of these places. Also, my ideas for the Dragon Knights started on a boulder in the Highlands.
  8. Turning 50! I truly came into my own as a woman. I loved each new decade I entered, but when I turned 50, the world opened up for me. I will be forever learning, but I’m more at ease with life.
  9. Finishing my first book. It was an overwhelming sense of accomplishment.
  10. Getting my first contract with The Wild Rose Press. I knew with each rejection letter I received, the right “fit” for a publisher would come my way. I never gave up.

Love this! What joyful moments.  Thank you so much for sharing with us.

And now, check out Mary’s book…

DragonKnight_sShield_w10248_300

Blurb:

Angus MacKay, leader of the Dragon Knights, failed his brothers and his clan upon the death of his sister. Now he must fight the darkness of despair tempting his soul. Back on Scottish soil, he comes face to face with Deirdre who can wield a sword as mightily as his warriors, and takes her captive. Yet, with each passing day, the fire dragon inside him roars to claim the one woman fate has destined for him.

Famed mystery writer, Deirdre Flanagan, is unprepared for the next chapter in her life. On a vacation to Scotland, she steps through the mists and enters into a skirmish alongside a Highlander. However, the fight has only begun, and now she must battle Angus as well as evil in order to claim the love of this Dragon Knight.

Will their love be powerful enough to shield them from danger, or burn them to ashes?

Excerpt:

His look was predatory, lustful, inviting, and she took a step backward. Words failed her as she took another step back.

He arched a brow and his smile became seductive. “Do I frighten ye?”

“No!” she lied. Like hell you do! You’re as gorgeous as sin standing there, and I want to rip your clothes from your body.

Pushing off from the wall, he stepped into the room and silently closed the door behind him, his eyes never leaving hers. His hair hung in soft waves past his shoulders, and her fingers itched to twine within them. Her body ached in places so deep—longing for even the slightest touch.

“Are ye unwell, my lady?”

The burr of his voice so low—so sexy, she could only stare at him until his words resonated in her mind. “No,” she replied softly, feeling the flames of desire heat not only her face, but also her entire body.

This time when he took another step closer, Deirdre didn’t back away. Now he stood so close she could feel the warmth of his breath across her face—a mix of wine and pure male.

She watched mesmerized as he reached for a lock of her hair, twining it around his finger. “So verra soft.”

Deirdre couldn’t breathe, as he let the curl unravel and cupped her face in his hands. “Ye confuse me. Ye torment me in my dreams,” he whispered against her cheek, sending a wave of pleasure down her spine.

Without thought, she groaned and leaned into him—his beard grazing her cheek. She no longer battled her mind for the man. “Kiss me, Angus.”

The car accident totaled Sabrina Post’s convertible and reinvented her memories. She can’t recall dumping Cole Dawson ten years ago. What her new clairvoyant visions tell Sabrina is he’s her husband. Any practical girl would question her sanity. But if Sabrina wants to make this imaginary future a reality, she’ll have to regain Cole’s trust and eliminate her rival, the coffee shop waitress who’s pegged Cole as husband #4. To prove she’s foreseen their destiny, Sabrina stirs Cole’s interest by revealing specifics about him she couldn’t have otherwise known. Unfortunately, the one detail he vividly remembers is the pain when she left him and their “rinky-dink” town in her rearview mirror.

If Cole can’t believe she’s a changed woman, can Sabrina accept the only second chance she has at love exists in her memories?

Excerpt:

Sabrina’s laugh faded at his unspoken words. Despite being born and raised in Rosewood, she wasn’t considered a local anymore since she’d moved and shunned the small town way of life they loved. She’d have to earn their respect, or forever be considered an outsider.

“How do you know what my New Year’s resolution is?” Sabrina tensed, wondering if Cole experienced the same unusual visions.

Cole shrugged. “It’s the same one you made every year. You were never successful with it then, either. You insisted you were no—”

“Quitter.” Sabrina finished the sentence.

“Yeah.” Cole cleared his throat. “Unfortunately, I have to get back to the store. My lunch break is over.” His gaze lingered on Sabrina. “Perhaps you’ll tell me your story…another time.”

He rose, bracing his arms on the table. The muscles in his biceps bulged. The group at the table behind them fell silent, straining to detect every word exchanged. “Somewhere a little more private.”

The happiness warming her at his closeness made her want to drown in the depths of his emerald eyes and seek the answers to the mystery of her muddled memories. The emotions welling inside her made no sense—love never did—especially since she loved a man she didn’t even know. God, she was crazy. Did she stand a chance of making her memories of Cole a reality? She licked her unbearably dry lips. “Yeah, perhaps.”

Watch out Southern California! There’s a new entertainment attorney in town and she’s got game. Only problem is, it’s not the one she should be playing. Corrie Locke belongs behind a desk, not behind a Glock. She should be taking VIP calls, not nosing around a questionable suicide. Instead, she’s hot on the trail of a murderer. Luckily, she’s the daughter of a late, great private eye and she’s inherited his love of sleuthing…and illegal weaponry. It doesn’t help matters that her gene for caution is a recessive one. Corrie finds herself in the center of a murder case, unearthing suspects in shocking places. With a cold-blooded killer on the loose, Corrie will have to up her game, or die trying.

Excerpt:

I veered out of the parking lot and bounced onto the cavity-ridden dirt road. The mystery car appeared out of nowhere from beneath the tall pines, eclipsed by the darkness. Now it raced away somewhere ahead.

“Why didn’t we hear it start?” I asked James.

“It’s a hybrid.”

“We’re in a car chase with a Prius?” A car chase with a Porsche or Ferrari was respectable, but with a battery operated car? All bragging rights vanished.

I shifted into warp speed and surged downhill. Seconds later, we faced the hybrid’s rear bumper. The spot for the license plate sat empty.

“He’s not getting away,” I said.

The hybrid turned and launched up a hill, kicking up pebbles and a dusty haze. It fish-tailed and I nearly nipped it in the rear. I executed a sharp left and ran over something large. And lumpy.

“Stop,” James said.

I skidded to a halt, a cloud of dirt trapped in my headlights. The Prius escaped through an open gate and onto La Paz. My eyes cut to the rearview mirror. My tail-lights illuminated the road behind us in an eerie red glow. As I surveyed the scene, not a trace of saliva remained in my mouth.

*** LIDA is giving away a print copy to one lucky commenter. (US Residents only) Winner will be announced this Saturday!

And now, let’s get to know Lida…

1) Where did you get the idea for MURDER AND OTHER UNNATURAL DISASTERS?

I was seeking an escape hatch from my day job, a way to lighten things up. The hatch eluded me, until I carved one out using words and altered scenes from a former life. I’d gone from working a high-profit job in a movie studio to running a non-profit on a shoestring budget. I used the entertainment industry as the backdrop of my novel and inserted a strong, but conflicted heroine, some slightly insane minor characters, and a murder to really rouse things. Writing a mystery was a challenge, but so much fun! And that’s what I was going for: fun. I really enjoyed twisting and turning reality around, and figuring out what the crazy characters were going to do or say next.

2) Are there any tricks/habits you use when creating a story?

One of my aunts shared issues of a magazine with me: Point de Vue, a French publication featuring European royalsAll very attractive, well dressed royals living colorful lives. I’d study the photos and create characters based on expressions, demeanor, and how I fancied they’d act, react, and interact. I wrote profiles for each and turned them into characters to populate my novel.

4) Do you have another occupation, other than writer?

I’m a lawyer, which works well because my day job has given me endless ideas and material for writing!

9) What’s your favorite book of all time and why? What’s your favorite childhood book?

I LOVE books, so it’s a challenge to whittle it down to one.  Today, I’d say it’s Uncle Tom’s Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe because she wrote it during a time when women were expected to do little more than run a household, and because this one small book made such a monumental impact.

My favorite childhood book is The Secret Garden – it contained mystery (who was crying at night and why the garden was a secret) and explored a multitude of themes like the power of positive thinking, which was highly appealing to my young mind. And I can’t resist happy endings!

10) What do you want readers to come away with after they read MURDER AND OTHER UNNATURAL DISASTERS?

I love films of the thirties and forties, especially those that give the viewer a little lift afterward. I hope that readers feel a small lift after reading my book. And if any part brings a smile to the face of a reader, I’ve been successful.

12) Would you rather have a bad review or no review?

I will not be ignored! So I’d have to say I’d rather have a bad review. Just hope it’s a thoughtful and constructive one or it would be like not getting a review at all.

15) What is your favorite quote?

In my spare time, I collect quotes, so again, it’s a challenge to name just one, so begging your pardon in advance, here are two that tie (you can pick the tiebreaker):

The happiness of one’s own heart alone cannot satisfy the soul; one must try to include, as necessary to one’s own happiness, the happiness of others. ~Paramahansa Yogananda

I think the mirror should be tilted slightly upward when it’s reflecting life–toward the cheerful, the tender, the compassionate, the brave, the funny, the encouraging, all those things. ~ Greer Garson

I enjoyed the interview, Lida…like you, I love old movies (as we’ve discussed), and I love the quote by Greer Garson.

Thank you so much for joining me today!

BIO:

She has written numerous magazine and newspaper articles, a poem or two and a teleplay. Lida resides in the northern tip of Southern California with her family, their German Shepherds, Barbie (short for Barbarian) and Duncan, and a flock of uppity chickens. She was the recipient of the Helen McCloy/Mystery Writers of America scholarship for mystery writing. Murder and Other Unnatural Disasters is her first novel.

Blurb –       Keeping a lid on all the paranormal beings inhabiting Washington D.C., is a daunting job. Bruce, a six hundred year old demon and the Territory Overlord of the Western Hemisphere, keeps his finger on the pulse of DC’s power players through the activities at his highly successful Wycked Hair Salon. His movie star good looks and body builder physique keeps his dance card full and the rumor mills running. Within these walls, his anonymity is safe, mostly.

Bruce’s world spins out of control when Angelique, a pint size, gorgeous witch, with an attitude breezes through the doors of his salon. She is the younger sister of Tristian, Bruce’s long time trusted enforcer, whose professional skills are second to none. Tristian is furious at the relationship between Bruce and Angelique, a dangerous situation. The undeniable attraction between demon and witch promises to tear apart both their professional and personal worlds.

Excerpt:

Suddenly, he felt the magic aura shirt and switched his attention to the front door. She breezed in, hair like spun gold flowing to her waist, with a seductive yet regal body and a sway to her hips that should be illegal even in DC. She wore a snug rose and cream colored sweater, cut low enough he could see the swells of her rounded breasts, tailored black slacks that fit her cute ass like a glove and four-inch spike heels. She paused in the center of the salon, wet from the sudden spring storm, and lowered the briefcase she’d used as an umbrella. Her sparkling violet eyes glanced up to the mezzanine where Bruce stood watching. Blatantly her gaze wandered over his well-muscled body, undressing him piece by piece, until he felt naked. He shook his head slightly and smoothed his shirt and slacks with his hand, just to make sure he was still wearing them.

And now, let’s get to know Tena…

Where did you get the idea for  A Demon’s Witch?

My hair dresser, Jen, and I were discussing the strange things that happened in a hair salon.  Then my husband and I were talking about the music industry, we’re both former DJ’s. A 1969 summer hit about a male hairdresser came up in conversation and I mused, “What if the hairdresser was an alpha male, Demon Overlord of the Western Hemisphere that owned a salon in Washington DC?”  That’s how A Demon’s Witch was born.

Why did you choose this genre?

Because I think people read to be entertained and escape the real world for just a little while.  I like creating a world with magic and paranormal creatures that will do and use anything to overcome all obstacles for their happily ever after.

Was there anything unusual, any anecdote about this book, the characters, title, process, etc, you’d like to share?

This book was National Novel Writing Contest project.  The title, A Demon’s Witch, came to me in the middle of the night and when I woke up my husband to tell him I’d finally decided on a title, he was less than impressed.

What is the most difficult thing about writing a book?

Getting the characters to do what I want.  Finally, I’ve learned to just tell their story and all is well.

What was the most difficult thing about this one in particular?

Not necessarily the most difficult, but most frustrating. Keeping Willow from stealing the spotlight. She is the heroine, Angie’s best friend.  For some reason, she was a very strong secondary character.  Maybe she wants her own book. LOL I truly enjoyed writing this book and was sad to see it end.  I can’t wait to share it with everyone.

What’s the main thing that you could get rid of in your life that would give you more writing time?

Cleaning House.  I love a clean house, but I hate doing it. It’s a time sink if you ask me.

What is one word you would use to describe yourself? Outgoing What is one word you think others might use to describe you? Headstrong

What’s your favorite book of all time and why?

Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone.  Because it is a tale of anything is possible.  First Harry’s journey from mistreated boy to talented wizard and JK Rowling’s journey from rags to riches both bring home the point anything is possible.

What’s your favorite childhood book?

Trixie Beldon – The Red Trailer Mystery.  I had all the Nancy Drew and Trixie Beldon Books growing up.  Loved them all.

What do you want readers to come away with after they read A Demon’s Witch?

A feeling that anything is possible with love, family and friends.

What is your favorite quote?

“Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, WOW what a ride!”

Your favorite…

Movie – Dirty Dancing

Music – Rock and Roll

Place you’ve visited – Monterey Bay Aquarium

Place you’d like to visit – Northeast in the Fall around Halloween.  I absolutely love Halloween.

TV show from childhood – Dark Shadows

TV show from adulthood – Scorpion

Food – Pizza

Sports team – Denver Broncos

Now, I’d like to ask readers…What are you looking for when you pick up a book to read? What makes you decide to buy a certain book?  How does it effect you, if you really enjoy it?

Thank you for joining me, Tena. I also LOVE Halloween. This is the perfect book to kick off the holiday season. Best of luck!

Author Bio – Tena Stetler is a paranormal romance author with an over-active imagination.  She wrote her first vampire romance at the age of eleven, to the chagrin of her mother and the delight of her friends. Tena finds stories in the strangest places, while camping, kayaking, or hiking in the mountains. So far, she’s only found one dead body (imagined not real) during a camping trip, turned it into an exciting paranormal romantic suspense that’s nearly complete.

For many years Tena worked as a paralegal for a criminal law firm. You won’t believe the tales she can tell!

Colorado is her home; shared with her husband, a brilliant Chow Chow, a spoiled parrot and a forty-year-old box turtle.  She loves the adventure of a road trip. Together with her husband and their companion animals, they have logged thousands of miles in their RV visiting over 3/4 of the United States.  The great northwest is still on the bucket list.

Any winter evening, you can find her curled up in front of a crackling fire with a good book, a mug of hot chocolate and a big bowl of popcorn.

NEW Release from The Wild Rose Press: Hiding by Katherine McDermott – PLUS, a Fun Fact…

Welcome today’s spotlight author, Katherine McDermott with her new release, a romantic suspense novel…HIDING.

LOVE the cover!

Hiding_w9495_750

Blurb:

Teresa Worthington escapes her abusive boyfriend, Alex, and flees to Paris to pursue a dream career in art. Alone and wary of men, she gradually makes friends and explores her new home. She is distraught to learn that Alex is still stalking her but is determined to create the life she has always wanted.
Handsome, compassionate, and brave, Serge Gervais, a young Frenchman, slowly wins her trust. He shows her the sights of France and promises to protect her from Alex. Teresa finds herself falling in love for the first time until the unspeakable happens. Alex tracks her down and forces her into the catacombs beneath the city. Will Serge find Teresa in time to prevent Alex’s vengeance?

A fun tidbit about the book from Katherine…

The heroine Teresa Worthington is a mural artist, a hobby that I also pursue. I had the greatest
time creating the Beach Room at my house for my grandkids. It has the ocean, a palm tree, sand
castle, seagulls, and leaping dolphins. The bedspread on the small bed is even a beach towel.

Katherine’s Favorite Line:

Alex illuminated the crypt with his light, and Teresa tried to interpret what she saw: uneven walls, a doorway surrounded by orbs, a floor littered with dried reeds. No, they weren’t reeds, they were bones. And the orbs were skulls! The Catacombs!

Ramblings of a Lifelong Elvis Presley Fan – Part 45 – Memories and Tidbits

Today is random day. Thought I’d share some Elvis facts and some personal Elvis memories.

Elvis didn’t like to wear jeans, because they reminded him of when he was poor. He mostly only wore them for movie roles.

Loving you_Elvis_Presley_047

In the 1957 movie, Loving You

My dad used to tease my sisters and I unmercifully about Elvis, but after Elvis passed away, he said he’d never tease us again. My oldest brother, Eddie, also gave us a hard time about Elvis. I remember one particular remark that, while I probably didn’t think it was very amusing at the time, is actually pretty funny. Referring to the below album cover, he said “It looks like his face caught on fire and someone tried to put it out with an ice pick.” Ha! It totally does not, right? 🙂

on stage1310537238

Elvis wanted to perform in Europe but he never toured outside the United States. Supposedly, it was because Colonel Parker, his manager, was an illegal immigrant, and he was afraid he would not be allowed back in the U.S. Isn’t that crazy to think something like that prevented fans all over the world from seeing Elvis in concert?

In January, 1974, when I was 12, Elvis released a single, “There’s a Honky Tonk Angel,” which received a lot of airplay on country radio stations. Each morning before school, my sisters and I called a local Oklahoma City station, I think it was KEBC, but I’m ashamed to say I can’t recall specifically, and requested the song. The DJ would always play it for us before it was time to leave for school, and that started our day off perfectly.

Lisa Marie once worked for Jerry Schilling, one of Elvis’ closest lifelong friends and a manager/producer. They kept it a secret, and no one knew when they called, that she was the one answering phones. Jerry said that sometimes she would come into his office and say, “There’s a call from someone wanting to talk with you about Lisa Marie.” She got a kick out of them not knowing it was her. Somehow, word leaked and the media converged on the office. Lisa had to quit after that, and she was very disappointed. It was her first job, and she loved being able to live like a regular person. Side note: Jerry’s nickname for Lisa was “Memphis.”

jerry and lisa

My sister, Ruth, and my brother-in-law, Tom, took me to Memphis for my fortieth birthday (we won’t say how many years ago that was…), and we took a riverboat ride on the Mississippi. Unfortunately, there was no air-conditioning in the boat, and this was July. In Memphis. Yes, July. Anyway… We went to the outside top of the boat to get some air, although I will say, it wasn’t really ‘cool’ air, it was more like thick, sticky, humid air. And, the worse part was, while outside, we were being eaten alive by mosquitoes as big as our heads. For some reason, they especially attacked Ruth. We got back to the hotel and were riding the elevator up to our room. Ruth (who loves Elvis every bit as much as I do) was sweat-soaked and riddled with huge, itchy mosquito bites. She said, “I can’t wait to get out of this hell-hole of a town.” (or something to that effect). I said, “But, Ruth, Elvis LOVED Memphis!” And she said, “That son of a bitch had air-conditioning everywhere he went!” My mouth dropped open and I said, “You just called Elvis a son of a bitch.” She was immediately horrified and apologetic. And, of course, being the loving sister that I am, I have not let her forget it.

Cissy Houston, Whitney Houston’s mother, was an original, founding member of the Sweet Inspirations and sang back up for Elvis.

cissynload

Jerry Schilling was once married to Myrna Smith, another member of the Sweet Inspirations.

My son, Presley, is a server in a restaurant. Recently, a couple came in and sat in his section. When he introduced himself, they said, “Oh my God, your name is Presley?” My son said it was, and they told him that, two years ago, their baby girl was born, and they named her Presley. This day was the two year anniversary of her death. Presley was very moved and a bit emotional. They felt there was a reason for them to connect with him that day. It was a sad, but special moment for the couple and for my son.

Thank you for stopping by. Any Elvis memories or facts you’d like to share?

EOLS Charity

Elvis was known for his giving heart and charitable work during his lifetime. Lisa Marie and Elvis Presley Enterprises have continued that tradition with their involvement in various charities. In 1984, The Elvis Charitable Foundation was formed. The EPCF created a scholarship fund for students majoring in the arts. The charity also contributes to one of Elvis’ favorite charities, Goodwill Homes, a Memphis facility that provides counseling and services for abused children and their families. The EPCF also assists numerous other charities, especially focusing on arts, education and children’s programs.

On Elvis’ birthday this year, I released a Vintage Romance short story set in 1957, and of course, my heroine is an Elvis fan. 🙂 As a tribute to Elvis’ generosity, and in order to assist with this worthy cause, 10% of my proceeds for End of Lonely Street will go to the EPCF.
