Hi Alicia and all you fabulous readers out there *waves* Thank you so much for having me today! My romantic suspense, Maximum Risk, released this month so I’m very excited to be here! Thank you so much for sharing it with me!!

JenniferLowery_MaximumRisk_200px

In honor of my release I am giving away an e-book copy of any one of my books (go to my WEBSITE to choose) to one lucky commenter so please leave me a comment with your EMAIL so I can contact you if you win!!

I love cooking almost as much as I love writing. Almost. Writing is definitely my passion, but cooking can be fun sometimes too. I often include cooking scenes in my writing and it is usually the hero that is doing the cooking. Hmm…wonder why that is, lol. Probably because I don’t have the time anymore! And, probably why I started a cooking blog called Romance Recipes…Authors cooking up more than romance. So I can introduce readers to a blog where they can meet new authors, try a new recipe and pick up a new book all in one place! If you’d like to check it out here the link: Romance Recipes.

In Maximum Risk, my heroine, Avery, is cut off from her life due to the bad guys wanting her dead. To get her mind off the danger she bakes a batch of her mom’s No Bake Cookies-the only thing she can bake since she isn’t a cook.  Quinn gave them his approval and he comes from a family where his mom cooks Sunday dinner and leaves Tupperware in his fridge when he’s away-so you know they’re good 🙂 So, here’s the recipe for Avery’s No Bake Cookies from Maximum Risk. Enjoy!

Avery’s No Bake Cookies

½ c cocoa

2 c sugar

½ c milk

1 stick butter

½ c peanut butter

½ tsp. vanilla

3 c quick-cooking oats

  • Mix sugar, cocoa, milk and butter in a saucepan and boil for 1 minute
  • Take off heat
  • Add peanut butter, vanilla and oats.
  • Lay out on wax paper and let cool before enjoying!

 ***BONUS***

For everyone who signs up for my NEWSLETTER you will receive an e-book copy of my short story, Taking Chances ($.99 value) for FREE!

JenniferLoweryAuthorpic

Thank you for having me today, Alicia!! I just want to send out a big THANK YOU to all my readers out there! Without you I wouldn’t be here. My wish is to one day meet each and every one of you so I can personally thank you for your generosity and support!
All my best,
Jennifer

Five Authors from Oklahoma – (Burdened, Vol. 2) Five Stories in One Boxed Set About a Cursed Doll and True Love

Last week I introduced a boxed set of 5 short stories from The Tales of the Scrimshaw Doll series. This week, I am featuring Burdened, Volume 2.

A while back, a group of Oklahoma authors came together to write a series of short stories with the recurring theme of a cursed Scrimshaw doll. The curse began in the late seventeenth century when a father feared his daughter’s betrothed would betray her. A gypsy attempted to hex the girl with this spell: All those who betray you will suffer. Only true love can break the curse. As luck (or bad luck) would have it, the girl was holding a Scrimshaw Doll her father had made for her, and the curse went into the doll instead, and therefore, it carried on for centuries. Our first installment picks up with the young woman’s daughter, who has inherited the doll.

These stories, in various genres, all stand alones, were published with The Wild Rose Press as individual releases, but have now been released in two boxed sets, each containing five stories.

Take a look at the fun and exciting stories in Volume 2:

Kathy L Wheeler with The Color of Betrayal, Contemporary Novella

He’d risk a broken nose for love

Factoid:

When I found myself stuck trying to determine artist Malia Kane’s sidekick, one of my very good friends began to speak—so what if he’d already passed from this world into the next—It worked. Charlie’s advice was perfect! And I was happy to bring him back to life as Malia’s agent. It was a fitting tribute for one of my best friends ever.

Callie Hutton with Tessa’s Treasures, Contemporary Romance Novella

Alicia Dean with Thicker than Water, Romantic Suspense Novella

Some secrets refuse to stay buried

Factoid:

I almost always use celebrities as inspiration for my main characters in order to have a set image in my mind and to make them feel more real. In this story, it seemed to work especially well for me. I used Timothy Olyphant as Raylan Givens in Justified for my hero, Sheriff Jake Devlin, and the character really seemed to come alive for me. Another little tidbit; I almost always use fictitious towns in my books. In this story, I used Covington, Oklahoma, as a nod to Covington, Georgia, the real town behind fictitious Mystic Falls and where Vampire Diaries is filmed. I decided to use the same town in my upcoming Halloween short story, Caster’s Unfriendly Ghost.

A favorite line(s):

Julia stared at her incredulously. “You can’t possibly think that we deserve to be punished?”

Pam met her gaze. “I don’t think you do, but maybe the doll does.”

Anna Kittrell with Skinbound, Romantic Suspense Novella

When Darcy falls for the town doctor, she finds herself at her wicked twin sister’s mercy, with nothing but the yellowed bones of an ancient doll to protect her.

Factoid:

Truth makes great fiction, and I infiltrate my stories with plenty of it. Take the following excerpt from Skinbound, for example:

Once, as a young girl, Scarlett whispered Darcy’s name through the keyhole of her bedroom door. Darcy knocked, then twisted the knob. Finding it locked, she’d dropped to her knees, peering through the keyhole into the shadowy room. Puzzled, she’d raised her head—just as a straightened coat hanger plunged through the opening, nicking her cheek.

The truth is, yes, I almost lost an eyeball. As a child, my sister plunged a straightened coat hanger through the keyhole, barely missing my eye. I moved just in time. Oh—I should mention one little discrepancy—she hadn’t called my name through the opening. I was just spying. Guess I deserved it.

A favorite line(s):

She dove for the cardboard box as if it were home plate. Blood oozed from her skinned elbows as she thrust her hands into her great-grandmother’s belongings, rescuing her scrimshaw doll.

******************

Tamrie Foxtail with The Bone Bride, Romantic Suspense Novella

Daira’s first love has returned to their home town. Is he the next victim of the scrimshaw doll?

Factoid:

I live in a small Oklahoma town. Our old home was a short walk from a haunted bridge, one that actually appears on a list of Oklahoma’s most haunted sights. I’ve always wanted to use the bridge in a story, and it seemed a perfect fit with a cursed doll.

A Favorite Line(s):

She turned to look at him. His nose was an inch from hers. She struggled to keep her eyes from crossing. “You think I don’t want you to kiss me because you dumped me twenty years ago?”

“You mean there’s another reason?”

“Yes! You’re little more than a stranger, now. I don’t go around kissing strange men.”

His smile deepened. He leaned closer, the tip of his tongue tracing the shell of her ear. She shivered.

“I’m not a stranger, sweetheart.” His hands slid down her arms and moved to her waist. “I’m the man who took your virginity in the backseat of my car.”

M.J. Schiller Shares What She Knows About Ireland and Her New Release, DAMAGE DONE

Write what you know, they tell me. And you can find pieces of me in all of my books. My marriage proposal? See UPON A MIDNIGHT CLEAR.  That bike jump over the creek my brother did when I was eight? HOMETOWN HEARTACHE, coming next year. And every one of Heath’s ex-girlfriend’s in BETWEEN ROCK AND A HARD PLACE is my bestfriend, Kelly. She also has a prominent role in a few of my other books.  So what parts of me pop up in my newest release, DAMAGE DONE? My trip to Ireland, of course!

In 2003 I was lucky enough to go to Ireland with my big sister, my mom, and her friend, Joanne. We flew into Shannon airport and headed straight to our bed & breakfast. We were exhausted from the flight as even I—who can usually nap anywhere, anytime—was unable to sleep on the plane. The b&b’s owner, who was cutting her husband’s hair in the kitchen when we arrived, shooed us off, warning us that jet lag would “be the death of us” if we so much as closed our eyes. So we were off to Bunratty Castle and Durty Nelley’s, a pub. We had a traditional Irish dinner at the castle and were entertained by Irish dancers. The next day we did the obligatory visit to Blarney Castle and kissed the great stone. (Which is a terrifying experience, for those who haven’t done it. You lie down and bend backward, scootching until your rump is off the castle stone, hanging out in thin air, with no one holding your legs, stories up. I still can’t believe I did it!)

From there we headed to what was to become our home base of sorts, our cottage on the Old Head of Kinsale, where a great deal of the action takes place in DAMAGE DONE. There is a grotto there, as described in the book, and a church and store. Hurley’s which soon became “our pub,” is what Tad McGregor’s pub in the book is based on, although Tad’s place is different in a number of ways. Our hero Michael and heroine Tess run off to Cork together, one of the next stops on our 2003 trip. I used what I could from my memories, and did some research for the rest. Some of the characters’ names are from my own family tree.

Here are some photos from our trip…

Much of the story is from my own twisted imagination, though.  🙂  I’ve never seen a lighthouse home such as Teddy and Gabby share, and don’t know where that came from. I’ve never made a sand octopus or stolen groceries from the back of a pickup truck. I’ve never even taken a bike ride like Sean and Gabby do, but I’d like to think I captured a taste of what it would be like. From where I stand, a little mishmash of fact and fiction makes for a good story. So here’s a blurb and excerpt from DAMAGE DONE. I hope you enjoy it!

DamageDone_CVR_MED(1)

Blurb ~

When an unhappy youth leaves him damaged, will Teddy Mckee be able to find love?

“Teddy Passmore McKee was born in Cork, Ireland, with a limp and a chip on his shoulder that threw his balance off all the more.” When he falls in love with the dark haired beauty born of an Irish father and a Spanish mother, will Gabrielle Quinn be able to restore his balance? And what about the charming Sean Hennessey? When Gabby catches his eye, too, will Teddy’s playboy best friend cause his own damage?

Fourteen years later, will Teddy and Gabrielle’s son be able to overcome the damage done to him in his childhood?

“Even through bloodshot eyes he could see she was different.”  But can Michael leave behind the bottle, and his womanizing ways, to win over the lovely Tess Flanagan? Tess has sustained some damage of her own. Can she and Michael overcome the terrors of the past and learn how to love each other?

And if they do, will they be able to elude those after them who want to create their own damage?

On the run after an altercation leaves their boss in a pool of blood, will Michael and Tess be able to stay one step ahead of their pursuers? Or is it simply too late to correct the damage that has been done?

Excerpt ~

“Tessie…” He offered again. “We have to get out of here.”

She remained frozen in her spot, staring blindly over the cliff. He moved a step closer and gently grasped her elbow. “Tess—”

She whirled around and his heart caught in his chest as he stared into her wild green eyes. Tears shone on her damp cheeks, glimmering in the moonlight like trails of scattered diamonds. “Nay, Michael,” she said, her words coming out choked. “I have to tell them the truth. It’s my fault. …I k-killed him.” She sobbed.

He looked at her sadly, begging her, “Let me help you.”

The back door creaked open and light spilled out from the bar across the grass, startling them. He saw Jimmy Flynn’s outline in the doorway. “They’re out here!” he yelled.

Without waiting for a response, Michael took Tess’s arm and steered her along the cliff’s edge. He stepped over the railing and helped her to the other side as well. They stood on a narrow ledge. To the left a trail dropped off toward the sea. He led her skittering down the path, loose rock pebbling the beach far below. He had taken the pathway many a night when he was drunk and feeling particularly reckless. Tonight he hurried over it with only self-preservation and Tess’s safety in mind.

They heard voices above them, coming from every direction as searchers fanned out along the top of the cliff. Their eyes met. They hardly dared to breathe. A flashlight beam ventured over the railing and along the cliff face. She clutched his hand, squeezing it until he lost feeling in his fingers. He tried to flatten himself even more tightly against the rock face, wishing it would somehow melt and absorb them. Several seconds passed and the beam of light was joined by another, and another, each swinging away, and then toward them again.

He grabbed a quick look at the churning sea below then closed his eyes for a second, and his stomach dropped. He took a deep breath before turning his head to look at Tess. Her eyes were closed and her lips were moving fervently, but she emitted no sound. He swallowed, wondering again why the sight of her affected him so. After several minutes a voice called out, “You won’t get away with this, Mikey.” Had someone seen them? He heard Jimmy Flynn mutter, “Wherever they are, we won’t find them tonight.” One by one the lights disappeared until only a solitary beam shone.

Author Bio ~

MJ is a lunch lady in the heart of Central Illinois. My gosh! Can you get more folksy than that? She met her husband at the University of Missouri-Columbia and now she has a nineteen-year-old (how did that happen?) and seventeen year old triplets! She loves to read, karaoke (where she can pretend she is a rock star) and spends WAY too much time on Facebook. She grew up in St. Louis and still has family there.

Elvis Presley – Ramblings from a Lifelong Fan, Part 1

Elvis Presley has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I have always loved him—I don’t even recall the first time I discovered him. It just seems as though he was always there. My sister, Ruth, however, does remember when she discovered him, and I’m a little jealous of that memory, since I don’t have my own. (Nor do I remember the incident, so I’m telling her version, which is very short :)). She was five and I was seven (but, it’s really odd how, all these years later, she’s somehow older than me…hmmm…) 😉 Anyway, I digress. She said that I called her into the living room where Elvis’s movie, Harum Scarum, was playing (on our black and white television. This was around 1967, but we didn’t yet have a color tv), and I pointed Elvis out to her and said, “Look, isn’t he cute?” From then on, she and I grew up sharing our devotion to Elvis.

elvis-presley1

I can’t explain exactly how I feel about Elvis; only another true fan really ‘gets’ it. But, he was more than just an entertainer. He had this special, magical quality that I can’t name, but I know exists. Otherwise, why would millions of people all over the world love him so much? Why would they—nearly 37 years after his death—travel thousands of miles just to see his home? (And, they still do, daily in droves of thousands, from places as far as Australia, Ireland, England, etc.) Because, he touched people in a way no other entertainer has before or ever will again. Even if you are not an Elvis fan, you can’t deny the impact he had on the world. Yes, there are other successful, talented, well-loved performers. But, seriously, another Elvis? I don’t think so.

Although I have never wavered in my love for Elvis, I’ve recently gained a new appreciation of him now that I listen to Elvis radio on Sirius XM. It’s so awesome that they have an entire channel devoted to him. Nothing but Elvis, 24/7. And, that is all I ever listen to. Seriously, all the time, Elvis Radio. Not only do they play a ton of his great music, including rare recordings, but they have guests who knew the real Elvis. They share their memories of him, and hearing the intimate details of his life makes him all the more special.

Because of my adoration of Elvis, I have mentioned him in almost all of my published works. Here’s a little sample from “Poetic Injustice” a Romantic Suspense Novella (one of my older titles published through The Wild Rose Press) CLICK ON THE COVER FOR MORE INFORMATION

6. Poetic Injustice 6.7.11

Snippet:

Samantha put in an Elvis CD and cracked the window just a bit. She loved the fresh smell of rain, and a little moisture wouldn’t hurt anything.

Love Coming Down, one of Elvis’ more obscure releases from the 70’s, was playing. The damp evening air and Elvis’ powerful voice filled the car, surrounding her, calming her. She released a breath and, along with it, some of the tension of the past few weeks.

Do you have any special moments to share about Elvis, or any other entertainer?

An Inside Look at Another Man’s Treasure with Anna Kittrell

I am supremely honored to introduce my guest today. Anna Kittrell is not only a fabulous author, but she’s my friend. And, she is one of the nicest, most pleasant and funny people you’ll ever meet. I had the privilege of being her editor for Another Man’s Treasure. I enjoyed every moment of it, not only because I was working with Anna, but also because the book is fantastic. I interviewed Anna, so read below for an inside look at the author and her romantic suspense, Another Man’s Treasure.

DSCF0442

What was the inspiration behind Another Man’s Treasure?

Twenty-five years ago, a retail photographer had a two-day assignment at the clothing store where I worked. Between customers, we visited, our small talk turning to his photography. He told me before becoming a photographer, he’d worked as a garbage collector. He said every morning on his trash route he saw people through kitchen windows drinking coffee and reading newspapers.

One morning, while looking through one of those ordinary windows, he made an extraordinary decision. He no longer wanted to be on the outside looking in. In that single defining moment, he purposed to be on the inside looking out. He quit his job as a garbage collector and enrolled in photography school. He’d been happily following his calling ever since.

In Another Man’s Treasure, Deason McKindle is also a manual laborer on the outside looking in. Though his dreams are of fighting fires, not snapping photographs, Deason has also made an extraordinary decision.

Now if he could only figure out how to follow his calling with a dead man standing between him and his dream…

Do you write in other genres, in addition to romantic suspense?

Yes. I also write young adult. WITCHA’BE, the first book in my Redbend High series, is a Christian suspense. Here is a bit about the book:

New to the small community of Redbend, Molly Sanders is delighted when she and Lenni Flemming become instant friends during the final weeks of her first Oklahoma summer. However, Bianca Ravenwood, Lenni’s best friend and self-proclaimed witch in training, is less than thrilled. In fact, she’s cursing mad, vowing to destroy Molly while honing her craft in the halls of Redbend High School. Molly’s new school becomes a waking nightmare as Bianca, beautiful wannabe witch, targets her in a jealous rage. Plagued by terrifying, inexplicable occurrences and an embarrassing case of panic-induced hiccups, Molly is unable to escape Bianca’s snare. But if Bianca refuses to back down and Molly refuses to stand up, not only will Molly lose the best friend she’s ever had…she may also lose her sanity.

The series tracks three main characters, Molly, Lenni, and Bianca, on their four year journey through the halls of Redbend High School. The second book, DIZZY BLONDE, is under contract with Prism Book Group, and is nearing the editing stages. I am currently working on book three, LINEAGE. One final book will follow, completing the four book series.

What book have you read that you wish you would have written?

My sixteen-year-old daughter came downstairs a few evenings ago, sobbing. Afraid something terrible had happened, I jumped up from the couch and hugged her. “I finished my book,” she hitched out.

When she returned upstairs, I turned to my husband and said, “I want to write THAT book.”

It was called “The Killer’s Tears,” by  Anne-Laure. I read it the next day. I cried too—but not as hard as she did.

What do you love that most people don’t like and wouldn’t understand why you do?

Buttermilk! I absolutely love ice-cold buttermilk. My great-grandmother raised me, and we enjoyed it together. I always think of her when I drink it. I think it tastes great. Plus, the calcium and active cultures are good for my body.

What’s the main thing that you could get rid of in your life that would give you more writing time?

The Internet. But then I couldn’t promote all those books I’d be writing—it’s a no win situation.

What’s your favorite book of all time and why? What’s your favorite childhood book?

The Picture of Dorian Gray. I love Oscar Wilde’s unmatched wit and timeless storytelling. Funny, heartbreaking, terrifying—the tale has it all. And I find the story’s premise so intriguing: Lord Henry, a twinkle in his eye, corrupting an innocent young man for his own amusement. Destroying a beautiful life filled with promise—just to see if he can. The creepy portrait, riddled and oozing with Dorian’s sins—while he stays young and gorgeous—is the icing on the cake.

The Velveteen Rabbit was my favorite childhood book. My entire life, I’ve loved stories that tear your heart out. I blame my great-grandmother for that too (as well as my love for buttermilk). She used to sing me heart-wrenching songs about terrible tragedies. I’d cry and beg her to sing them again with tears still streaming down my face. I tried singing them to my own children, but they got angry when I made them cry. They hated those songs, and still haven’t forgiven me.

If you could change something about one of your books that’s already released, what would it be?

I’d have my main character wake up and discover the entire story was a dream.

Joking!

There is one typo in Another Man’s Treasure that I wish I would’ve caught. I’m not telling where it is. I want readers to make a game out of finding it.

What genre have you never written that you’d like to write?

I love classic horror, and aspire to bringing that level of dread and fear to a story. I want to write the kind of tale that makes readers glad it’s only a book—to experience the same type of relief as when they wake from a nightmare.

If you were stranded on a deserted island and you could have 3 (inanimate) objects, what would they be?

Static Guard (providing I still have clothes), my orthodontic retainers, and lip balm.

What celebrity would you most like to be stranded on an island with?

Melissa McCarthy. I can go without a lot of things, but I cannot survive one day without a belly-laugh.

Your most prized material possession? Why?

The tattered stories and poems that I wrote as a child. They remind me that I was born to write. For as long as I can remember, I’ve been compelled to put words on paper. My love of writing is gift from God, to whom I am eternally grateful.

Your favorite…

Movie Gladiator, The Notebook, Titanic

Music John Mellencamp, 38 Special, Night Ranger, Tom Petty, Daryl Tonemah

Place you’ve visited Arizona—more specifically, Grand Canyon. It absolutely steals your breath.

Place you’d like to visit Hawaii. I love muddy Oklahoma lakes, but to see blue water would be very cool.

TV show from childhood Fantasy Island

TV show from adulthood Face Off, the special effects makeup competition on SyFy. I love watching people do what they do best—and these competitors are fiercely creative.

Food Chinese

Sports team huh?

Which do you prefer: Board games/card games or television? Television

I would like to thank Anna for being my guest today. I enjoyed getting to know her better. She always has interesting tidbits to share. I love her movie choices, and now I wish I’d written The Killer’s Tears, and I haven’t even read it yet, but I am going to. And, sorry about that typo in Another Man’s Treasure. My bad! 🙂

Below, you can find out more information about Anna’s books. But first, Anna has a question for you…

Do you prefer to be inside looking out, or outside looking in?

perf5.000x8.000.indd

Blurb:

Deason McKindle dreams of breaking free. Free from the ex-wife whose cheating ways landed his fist in his boss’s face, free from his dead-end job as a trash collector, free from small-town Oklahoma. In two weeks, his dream of a fresh start in Montana will come true.

His dreams scatter when he saves Charis Locke from her abusive ex-husband. The gratitude in her eyes awakens a passion deep inside him. But when he later discovers the ex-husband’s corpse in a dumpster, Deason’s charged with murder. Instead of breaking free, he loses every freedom he’s ever known.

Charis thought she couldn’t love any man other than the Alzheimer’s patient she takes care of. But when Deason is arrested, she can’t let him go to prison without a fight. As fate would have it, Charis has finally fallen in love, and only the key to the killer’s identity will unlock her dreams.

Excerpt:

“Hey, I know you,” Vic garbled, his dull eyes floating over Deason’s features. “You’re Deason

McKindle. SOB that punched out your supervisor and landed yourself on the trash wagon.” He threw his head back and wheezed out a beer-steeped laugh.

Deason homed in on the oversized Adam’s apple, fighting the urge to twist the man’s collar until the stupid thing stopped bobbing.

Vic squinted at Deason, a glint in his clouded eyes. “You socked old Ricky Holland right in the mouth for messing with your old lady. Now she waits tables at Suds. Always shoving her goods in everyone’s faces.”

Hovering above Vic, Deason’s cocked fist quaked with anger, ready to drive the no good bum’s crooked nose straight through the back of his empty skull.

“He’s not worth it.”

Charis’s voice rang out stronger than Deason imagined it would, given what she’d just been through. Her words pulled him from his murderous thoughts, likely saving Vic’s life. He cut his gaze to where she stood, dusting her hands over the grass-stains on her clothes. A small, red line stamped the corner of her mouth like an exclamation point.

Vic cackled. “You ain’t gonna do squat to me, McKindle. I heard how it all went down. Sam, the big boss, made you promise to keep your nose clean, cause next time you screw up, it’ll be outta his hands.”

Deason set his jaw. “Not a problem. I know how to operate the trash compactor. By the time they find what’s left of your worthless bones, I’ll be long gone. Now close your eyes. Wouldn’t want you to get blood in them.”

Anna also has a new release, a Christian YA called Witcha’be. I love this cover!

Kids, Pets, and Problems – And a FREE Kindle Ebook!

I am happy to introduce Eve Dew Crook, and her wonderful romantic suspense, Taking the Tumble. Eve is one of my authors at The Wild Rose Press, and I had the pleasure of editing her book. Taking the Tumble is FREE today and tomorrow on the Kindle, so be sure to grab your copy today!  Click here to download

Eve has a brief note to share with you….

I’ve heard that pets and children in romance novels please readers. I didn’t know that at the time, but both appear in Taking the Tumble. Meet Oxy Moron, a three-horned lizard, who plays a small but significant role in my book, and share the fear when Merry, a precocious 5-year old, meets a stalker.

Blurb:

After a painful divorce, Cyn Westland returns to grad school hoping for a fresh start. When her communications professor requires the class to choose new identities for the semester, it seems like the perfect chance to bury her past. Especially when the sexy student known as Merlin grabs her attention.

Publisher Mac Price is taking the experimental class to pursue his dream of writing a graphic novel. But it’s the girl known as Cleopatra who makes higher education worthwhile. Somehow, keeping their real names secret adds a thrill to the time they spend together outside class.

But as their relationship develops, another classmate watches jealously. When Cyn receives anonymous threats, Mac’s first instinct is protective, but Cyn’s finished dealing with dominating men.

The dirty tricks turn scary. Love takes a setback. Then Cyn comes face-to-face with her stalker…

Excerpt:

“But, Mac, are you quite sure about the job offer?” Cyn asked. “It’s such a big responsibility…and your father?”

“Big M’s agreed. He believes I know what I’m doing.” Mac looked pleased to say the words. “Suppose we try it for six months, at a salary commensurate with the position. And did I mention benefits? Health insurance, pension, sick days, dental plan…the works.”

“The works, you say? Just what other benefits do you have in mind?”

“Your own corner office, big desk, couch.”

“Any other fringe benefits?”

“Making out with the boss?”

She giggled. “I’ll want that written into the contract.”

“Deal!” Pressing her close, he ran his fingers down her spine. “I’m sure I can accommodate whatever you want. This is definitely a job with perks.”

Cyn clung to him, wriggled her hips, then pulled away. “Come inside. My driveway is no place to make such a momentous decision. You can keep me company while I consider it—from several different positions.”

Oh, yeah…. He nudged her toward the front door.

As Mac stepped over the threshold, he turned back, glanced around. This was not the moment for a chill to creep up the back of his neck. “Dammit,” he muttered. “What’s wrong now?” The icy feeling shocked him, momentarily wiping out his euphoria.

Someone was watching.

About Eve:

I love to travel—have visited all 50 states and 21 countries to collect super memories and great backgrounds for my stories.

Favorite pursuits are reading, including long walks listening to books on disk or cell phone, writing (from a play about fairies and brownies in second grade through all my life—stories, novels, plays, poems, and limericks), and gourmet cooking when I can find time (I’ve an herb garden with rosemary, thyme, basil, oregano, and parsley).

I’m married to an artist, have a photographer son, and now live in the Southwest. I’ve been a newspaper editor, a college professor, taught journalism and sci-fi, but love writing romantic suspense best of all.

Meet my Sci-Fi Author Friend, Diane Burton…

Well, she’s not ONLY Sci-Fi. (Although I love her sci-fi books, even though that’s not my favorite genre) I had the pleasure of reading and contracting one of her suspense books, One Red Shoe, for The Wild Rose Press. And it is fabulous! The release date for One Red Shoe is January 10, 2014. Hopefully, Diane will join me on my blog again at that time. Well, enough about that. Meet Diane…

DianeBurton

I’m Diane Burton and I’m a compulsive writer. My imagination has been working overtime since I was a kid. When I write, I can be anyone I want. I can be a petite, red-headed starship pilot who knows what she wants and goes after it (like Celara in The Pilot) or a tall, overweight repairperson who wisecracks her way out of scary situations (like Jessie in Switched and Switched Resolution) or a straight-laced starship mechanic who’s discovered she’s not an alien (like Veronese in Switched, Too and Switched Resolution). I can even be a schoolteacher (I was one, actually) facing the Big 3-0 and determined to have an adventure (like Daria in One Red Shoe). In my imagination, I can soar through outer space, visit alien planets, pilot a starship, and rescue a wounded spy from the ladies’ restroom in New York City. And if I could live in any time period, it would be when space travel is as common place as air travel.

Although I’ve lived in Missouri and Illinois, I’m such a dyed-in-the-wool Michigander that when asked where I live, I hold up my hand as if it’s a map and point. I love the Great Lakes and will soon be living close to Lake Michigan and my favorite sports team is the Detroit Tigers. I have two great kids who’ve grown into adults I’m so proud of. My daughter’s two children always make me smile when they come running and yelling “Nana! Papa!” My granddaughter has a super imagination. We write stories together—she tells me what to write then she illustrates. At almost six, she’s a budding novelist. (I’m not prejudiced or anything). At three and a half, my grandson has two speeds—fast and faster. He has a wicked grin that reminds me of his uncle (my son) and my husband.

I’ve been writing for over twenty years. In the past two, I’ve been having the time of my life. The best part about being a writer right now is getting my books to readers has become easier through self-publishing. Of course, having a freelance editor and cover artist who are friends really helps. The support of my RWA chapter (Mid-Michigan), friends, and readers make this journey so rewarding. My biggest supporter, though, is the fantastic guy I married forty years ago. We remain such good friends that we can spend four days in a car out to Arizona and another four days back and still talk to each other. Although he doesn’t usually read novels, he reads mine and he’s always willing to brainstorm plot lines.

I started writing the Switched series nearly fifteen years ago. It didn’t start as a series—just one stand-alone book, Switched—about twins separated before birth then raised on different planets. Readers clamored for the secondary characters’ story, which brought about Switched, Too. Published this May, Switched Resolution brings all the characters together to save one of them, a starship, and an alien world. While I was waiting for a publisher to recognize my brilliant writing (kidding), I wrote another science fiction romance set in another universe. The Pilot kicks off a new series about strong women on the frontier of space. I’m currently writing the next book in the Outer Rim series. It’s had three titles already. I think The Chameleon is the best title . . . so far. Meanwhile, as Alicia mentioned, a publisher has recognized my brilliant writing (only slightly kidding). The Wild Rose Press will release my romantic suspense, One Red Shoe, on January 10, 2014.
