perf5.000x8.000.indd

BLURB:

A year after her husband’s death, Emily Tillman is ready to start dating again, and hopefully, find what she’s always wanted—marriage and children. But the man who broke her heart five years ago is back. And he’s anything but the marrying kind.

Confirmed bachelor Reese Caster is perfectly content with his life—and he’s finally over Emily, the one woman who almost made him commit. Now, his world is rocked when her dead husband shows up, demanding that Reese pursue Emily to keep her out of the clutches of her latest suitor—a jerk who is only after her money.

Being around Emily again has made Reese reconsider his bachelor life style. But now that the threat of the other man is gone, the pesky ghost wants Reese to break things off. Can he and Emily find the love they were denied, or will the ghost of her dead husband destroy their chances?

EXCERPT:

“Emily is the kind of woman you have to take things slowly with.”

“Sure, if this was real. But you have to step it up, turn on the charm. You need to show you care, that you know her, buy her things that she loves. Her favorite flowers are white roses, she loves dark chocolate, and her favorite wine is Merlot. You need to move in on her, hard.”

Caster gave a humorless laugh and shook his head. “Do you hear yourself? You were her husband, for God’s sake. Have some respect.”

Joey’s face flushed. “I do respect her. That’s why I don’t want this asshole putting one over on her. She deserves to find someone who will truly love her and give her the things I couldn’t.”

A note of pain in his voice almost made Caster feel sorry for him. But not as sorry as he felt for the family who lost a loved one less than half an hour ago. “Listen, I’ve performed back to back surgeries today, and had my night capped off by an emergency surgery that ended with a young girl’s death. So, you’ll understand why I’m not in the mood for this right now.”

“I’m sorry, but there’s nothing I can do about that. My concern is with Emily. And I need you to follow through with your end of the deal.”

“Deal, my ass. You blackmailed me into going along with this bullshit. Well, I’m out. I’ll finish the haunted forest thing, but no more of this romancing Emily crap. I can’t use her like that, I can’t break her heart again.”

“Break her heart? You sound pretty sure she’ll fall for you. My, my. Someone’s full of himself.”

Caster stood and stalked to the door. “Look, I don’t know if she will or not, I just know I can’t do this any longer. You can destroy everything I own, keep me up every night for the rest of my life, but I’m done.”

He put his hand on the door, but Joey’s voice stopped him. “I’ll tell her.”

Caster paused and turned to face him. “You’ll what?”

“Not only will I continue to screw with you, even on the job, but I’ll appear to Emily, tell her about our little scheme. What do you think she’ll think of you then?”

“You’re bluffing. You wouldn’t hurt her like that.”

Joey shook his head and closed his eyes. When he opened them, they were suspiciously damp. “I don’t want to. But I’ll do anything to keep her from making the biggest mistake of her life.”

Caster let out a resigned sigh and shook his head. “Nah, getting mixed up with the two of us was the biggest mistake of her life.”

Willa Blair with The Healer’s Gift (A Highland Talents Novella) – Scottish Historical Paranormal Romance

The Healer’s gift changes everything Coira thinks she knows about herself and her future.

Fun Fact: The Healer’s Gift (A Highland Talents Novella) resolves the story of one of the most tormented characters in HIGHLAND HEALER (Highland Talents Book 1). Coira MacDugall deserves the harshest punishment for her actions in the Highlands.  But her clan’s new laird, Logan, defies her expectations.  And the Healer’s gift changes everything she thought she knew — about herself and the people around her.

A few lines from the story:

Sharron Riddle with Walking Sticks: The Gift, a New Adult paranormal novel

Is death the only way to stop the cursed walking sticks?

Fun Fact: The Walking Sticks was inspired by Maori Legends – Native New Zealanders – who believed in blue skinned, fair haired fairy folk years before the first white men arrived to their islands.

A few lines from the story:

“I know, but it seems like weird stuff has been happening ever since I opened the package. The stick in my room…” Kerry looked around, lowered her voice. “I locked it in my closet, and I heard it in there. Riva, I swear, it was trying to get out.”

Annette Miller, with Night Angel, a paranormal novella

True love does conquer all.

Fun Fact:  As a superhero fan, I always loved the fact that the heroes would win. The battles were always epic. Then I got to thinking. Heroes need love too. And the idea was born. I love romance and heroes. It just seemed natural to put them together.

A few lines from the story…

But didn’t this kind of stuff always happen in fairy tales? The path to true love was always filled with obstacles. Yes, she thought. But why does my path have major construction signs?

Melissa Snark with The Mating Game, Erotic Paranormal Novel

Two males…two friends…a competition for the right to claim The Heart of the Iron Stone Pack

Fun Fact:  My hero, Zachary Hunter, is an author of suspense thrillers. Throughout the story, he comically falls prey to many of the foibles of writers everywhere: writer’s block, procrastination, not accepting criticism well, editor issues, people having issues about how his characters should act, and being tuned out to important real life developments because he’s “in the zone”. Most of the jokes are private and I may be the only one who actually think they are funny.

A few lines from the story:

“Oh, Zach.” Theresa sighed into the phone. The sound of her weight shifting atop fabric reached his ears. “What am I going to do with you?”

“I could offer all manner of suggestions.” Zach’s mouth went dry, and his voice had acquired a sultry tone, deliberately suggestive, a hint of the lewd.

New Releases from TWRP – And Fun Facts about the authors!

I am proud to share some of the latest releases from The Wild Rose Press… Please check out the books and follow these authors on Twitter and Facebook, etc.

Enjoy the wonderful stories AND the fun fact tidbits…

Anna Small with How To Marry A Rogue, Historical romance novel

Jack promises to protect his best friend’s little sister on her trip abroad. But is he the biggest threat of them all?

Fun Fact: Part of the story is set in Bordeaux, at the hero’s family winery, so I happily did some research at a local Florida winery. All that tasting and drinking really helped inspire me! The rest of the book is set in England, where I grew up in the beautiful countryside and went to school outside of London. I hope this experience gives my historical romances a flavor of their own.

Judy Ann Davis with UNDER STARRY SKIES, Western Historical Mystery Romance Novel

Romance happens under Colorado’s starry skies.

Fun Fact: The story of school teacher Maria O’Donnell teaching Indian Two Bears to read and write in 1875 evolved in “Under Starry Skies” since I had worked in adult education and understood the value of reading and writing for all adults. Two Bears was a minor, but favorite character in my first book, “Red Fox Woman.” I had to bring him back in the sequel since my readers fell in love with him. They also fell in love with the youngest Ashmore brother, Tydall, who’s my story’s hero.

Mickey J. Corrigan with Whiskey Sour Noir, Book #1 in The Hard Stuff series; a noir novella, dark romance.

Love is like a whiskey sour: you’ve got to watch out or it sneaks up on you. And it can be so bittersweet.

Fun Fact: One day the phrase “whiskey sour noir” just popped into my head. I loved it and wanted to create a story to go with it. A friend had told me about a close relative who had been labelled a sex offender, and how that had totally ruined the man’s life. So I used that concept as my theme.

When my editor at the Wild Rose Press called the novella “book #1,” a series was born. Each story takes place in the imaginary Dusky Beach, a seedy little Florida beach town where the women seem to drink too hard and fall too hard for the wrong kind of men.

After my editor Diana Carlile created the superb cover for Whiskey Sour Noir, she came up with the next title, Vodka Warrior. And another amazing cover. She is so awesome!

The next book in the series, Mai Tai Guy, will be a quickie and a free read. Book #3 is in line for editing. I’m not going to tell you which kind of liquor is up next in Dusky Beach. But I bet you can guess!

AND…

Mickey J. Corrigan Vodka Warrior: Book # 2 in The Hard Stuff series, a gritty romantic comedy novella.

Theresa Tierney is over the hill and drinking enough to roll straight down that slippery slope—and she blames it all on the body god next door.

Fun Fact: Vodka Warriors is the second book in The Hard Stuff series about tough women who fall in love with the wrong kind of man. The inspiration for this story came from my dental hygienist. She entertained me while cleaning my teeth, recounting the antics of a hard drinking woman at war with her neighbor, a younger man who partied daily with strippers.

The typical crazy South Florida tale became enlarged in my mind as I wrote about Theresa Tierney, the body god next door, and the other kooky characters in Vodka Warrior. Like Whiskey Sour Noir, Book #1 in The Hard Stuff series, the story takes place in the seedy town of Dusky Beach. This is where all the Hard Stuff women live—and love.

Wednesday’s Want, Wed, Waste: Movie Monsters

Hello and welcome to my version of the game, ‘F*@#’, Marry, Kill. This week we are WWW’ing Movie Monsters, more or less. It’s a list of villains, even if they aren’t ‘Monsters’.

Myself and some of my friends are sharing our Want, Wed, and Waste choices from this week’s list:

Sheriff of Noddingham, Michael Myers, Hannibal Lecter, Jabba the Hut, Norman Bates, The Mummy

Me (Alicia Dean). Author of Liberty Divided Isle of Fangs Book 2 ~

WANT: Michael Myers. He’s brooding and sexy. Teenagers get on his nerves as much as they do mine. He’s good with his ‘weapon.’ He doesn’t talk, so there would be no yap, yap, yap afterward.

WED:  Hannibal Lecter. He’s intelligent, clever, and charming. I think he’d make a great husband, because when he loves a woman, she is his entire focus. Look at how devoted he was to Clarise. Also, it seems like he’s a really good cook.

WASTE: Norman Bates. Skinny little wimp with Mommy issues. And I can’t stand it when a nice, hot shower is interrupted.

********************************************

L. A. Kelley, author of Book:  The Naughty List (ON SALE for $2.99 on Kindle until November 26), Website: http://lakelleythenaughtylist.blogspot.com

Facebook: www.facebook.com/l.a.kelley.author

WANT:  Alan Rickman as the Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves

Dark brooding good looks, a wicked sense of humor, and an authentic English accent (unlike Kevin Costner’s pathetically inept Robin Hood) makes Alan Rickman every woman’s medieval dream lover. My favorite scene in the movie is when he threatens to cut out Robin Hood’s heart with a spoon. I never wanted a man more.

WED: Arnold Vosloo in The Mummy

He’s smart, he’s passionate, he’s buff, and he’ll resurrect you from the dead if you happened to get caught cheating on the pharaoh. When he promises happily ever after, he means it. Of course, before regeneration the mummy resembles a festering pile of moldy hospital bandages, but a couple of shots of Febreze should take care of any lingering smell. Until he’s back to his human self I’d keep the lights off in the bedroom and enjoy the tender embrace of a man who would literally go to hell and back for me.

WASTE: Jabba the Hut in Star Wars

Although a hideous intergalactic sexist slug, Jabba thinks he’s all that and a bag of Ewoks. He freezes his enemies to hang as wall art and forces scantily clad women to dance for his pleasure before feeding them to a monster. I’d love to drop-kick his slimy keister into a giant vat of table salt. I dare him to two-step out of that one before desiccation sets in and he’s turned into something resembling a giant shrunken booger.

********************************************

Kathy L Wheeler, author of  Lies That Bind, Website: http://kathylwheeler.com;

WANT: Alan Rickman is weird but I think I want him. You might end up dead, but you’d be laughing at least.

WED: Michael Myers, if you are going to end up dead, perhaps it would be quick.

WASTE: Norman Bates is just creepy…and skinny

********************************************

Lana Clary, non-author, daughter of Alicia Dean, and a lover of creepy, scary things:

WED– Can my Norman Bates be the Vince Vaughn Norman Bates? Yeah, that’s my Norman Bates. I would TOTALLY wed him. For obvious reasons. And yes, I’d wed him even if he actually WAS Norman Bates in real life. Murder doesn’t scare me.

WANT – If my Norman Bates is Vince Vaughn, and he is, then I would want Michael Myers – no brainer there. I’ve always wanted him. And the only reason I wouldn’t wed him, is because I think there is a larger chance he would snap and murder me with a butcher knife some day, than the chance of Norman snapping. Norman seems like the kind of guy that, as long as you did what he wanted, he’d keep you around. Michael…eh…not so much. He’d be a little quicker to….stab…..you in the back (pun intended). I can’t imagine hot meals on the table, folded laundry, and a clean house every night would make him not kill me, just not the marriage type. I’ve also always thought Michael was extremely sexy – and I bet he’s delightful in bed. Of course, we’d have to leave the mask on. Yum.

WASTE – Oooooh Hannibal Hannibal Hannibal – it pains me to have to waste you. Behind Michael Myers you’re my all time favorite serial killer and I love you so. And of course, Anthony Hopkins, even at his age…..delicious. Accent is yummy, the murderous glint in his eye is hot, and the way he can terrify you to the core with just one comment is a major turn on. There is ONE, simple, frightening reason why I would not be able to make myself marry, or do Hannibal Lecter – he eats people. And I’m not kissing someone who just had liver for dinner 🙂

********************************************

Now we’d like to hear from you….which of these Hot Messes would you Want, Wed, and Waste?

Thanks for playing!

MJ Schiller’s New Release: An Uncommon Love

I am thrilled to have MJ Schiller as my guest today. Let’s get to know her a little better, shall we?

Snapshot_20110906,picmonkeyed

What book have you read that you wish you would have written?

Geez! There are so many of them! I could go with the classics, A TALE OF TWO CITIES, THE GREAT GATSBY, TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD… Or some new favorites, anything by Nora Roberts or RT Wolfe (they’re so good they make me furious!). But at the same time, I don’t wish to have written them. I don’t have Dickens knack for plot twists, Fitzgerald’s lyrical prose, Harper Lee’s taste for the South. I’m not as edgy as Wolfe, or as brilliant at plotting. And face it, there’s only one Nora, dangnabbit! But I think I bring my own flavor to the mix, and I’m okay with that.

Ah, yes. Good point. We all have our own style, even though we may covet others’.

What do you love that most people don’t like and wouldn’t understand why you do?

Karaoke! Most of my friends would rather have a frontal lobotomy than get up and sing in front of people. But I…well I live in make-believe land whenever I write, why not carry that over into my nightlife? Pretend to be a rock star, and a decent singer. Besides, everybody’s drinking and they don’t care how bad you are anyway. It’s fun. It’s freeing! You should give it a try.

NO THANK YOU! I’ll take the frontal lobotomy, please.

What’s the main thing that you could get rid of in your life that would give you more writing time?

This whole pesky day job/solid income thing!

I think that’s pretty common in the writing world. Maybe someday, right?

Would you rather have a bad review or no review?

Bad review. At least that person’s interacting with your work. They’re getting it out there. They’re talking about it. And you might learn something valuable that will make you a better writer.

I agree completely.

What celebrity would you most like to be stranded on an island with?

Jenson Ackles, hands down! Not only would he be one hot distraction, but he’d have me in stitches all day long! (And I might have a chance, since it’s just the two of us…)

I would say you’d have a very good chance! I mean…who else, right? 🙂

Your most prized material possession? Why?

I’m gonna cheat and go with two, because Alicia is not here to stop me. My wedding ring, for obvious reasons. And my laptop, because I give it all of my crazy thoughts. Oh! Make it three. My Kindle.

Actually, I am here. But luckily for you, cheating is allowed on my blog.

Your favorite…

Movie  (I’ll try to be more decisive here!) “What About Bob?”

Music Three Days Grace

Place you’ve visited Ireland

Place you’d like to visit Hawaii

TV show from childhood Charlie’s Angels

TV show from adulthood Supernatural

Food Chocolate. And pizza. (All right. Not all that decisive…)

Sports team Missouri Tigers

Which do you prefer: Board games/card games or television? Love them all, but I guess I’d pick card games.

Thanks for having me, Alicia! I enjoyed running amuck on your blog.

Thank you for coming, MJ. I enjoyed visiting with you…as always!

Now, check out MJ’s beautiful cover and her compelling new release:

UncommonLove_CVR_SML(2)

Blurb for AN UNCOMMON LOVE~

Princess Adriana had her life all figured out.  Or, to be more precise, she had her life all figured out for her.  Before she was even born she was betrothed to Garin, and that was perfectly acceptable as he became her childhood friend, and then, eventually, the person she would swap kisses with inside the palace gardens.  She never questioned it, never had a reason to, until the day a commoner was brought before her father, the King, to be punished.

As soon as Adriana’s eyes connect with Seth’s across the stone courtyard, she begins to question everything in her life.  For his part, Seth Hobbes is confused about his feelings for the beautiful princess who refuses to match any of his preconceived notions of what a princess should be like, starting when Adriana begs her father to release him.  When Seth creeps into the castle at night to thank her, they begin to build a relationship with one another that is often as explosive as it is endearing.  When fate ends up separating the two, they must undertake a long and arduous journey to be reunited and then overcome the objections Adriana’s father has to their relationship.  Will Adriana be able to make Seth see her for herself and not as the princess that he imagines?  And if she does, will she ever be able to convince her father that, despite his objections, there is nothing “common” about Seth at all?

Excerpt~

With that, she broke from his grasp and lifted her skirts to free her feet. Running down the stone pathway that curved around the corner of the building, she followed the uproar. As she ran, parallel to the crowd following the road, she peered between branches of the oak trees planted at regular intervals along the edge of the garden. She could see a man with his arms tied in front of him, struggling against his captors as he was pushed, shoved and pulled. He wore a loose-fitting, beige-colored linen shirt. His blond hair was long on top, and flew in front of his face as he swung his head violently. He seemed to be trying, at the very least, to injure someone with his skull.

She hastened her steps, and was actually the first person to reach the courtyard, angled as it was in her direction. She broke from the tree-line and stood just beyond the edge of the wide, hexagonal, stone court. High above, a small balcony jutted out from what she knew to be her father’s conference room.

She continued to hear the whistles and cheers of the crowd, though they were briefly out of sight up the roadway, and it filled her with apprehension. In the past, her father had never let her see the goings-on in cases such as this, and now she understood why. It frightened her. Her heart beat faster as a few guards poured into the courtyard, walking backwards as they took in the actions of the mob that trailed. She could see Derrick, her father’s Captain of the Guard. Even from this distance the purple bruising on his chin was obvious. He held the rope tied to the captive’s wrists and jerked it, a cruel move that sent the man crashing to the stone pavers.

Adriana gasped, but then covered her mouth.  She stood, barely visible, at the fringe of the trees. If her father or his men saw her, they would order her away, of that she was sure. The man struggled to his feet and defiantly shook the hair out of his face.  His white teeth flashed as he bared them, glaring with disdain at Derrick. His heavy work pants were torn at the knees, whether from the fall she had just witnessed, or from some other fall, she could not tell.

The prisoner’s gaze lifted and caught hers. For several seconds it was as if no one else was there besides Adriana and the stranger.  The air seemed to shimmer between them with the intensity of their stare. The noise of the crowd thundered in her ears, but was now accompanied by the sound of her own blood pounding through her veins. His eyes were the most startling blue, reminding her of the flash of a blue jay she sometimes caught a glimpse of in Ramport’s gardens.

M.J. Schiller~

MJ is a lunch lady in the heart of Central Illinois. My gosh, can you get more folksy than that? She met her husband at the University of Missouri-Columbia and now she has an eighteen-year-old (how did that happen?) and sixteen year old triplets! She loves to read, karaoke (where she can pretend she is a rock star) and spends WAY too much time on Facebook. She grew up in St. Louis and still has family there.

You can find MJ Schiller at www.mjschillerauthor.blogspot.com, MJ on FB, twitter, Pinterest, and Goodreads.

You can find AN UNCOMMON LOVE at Amazon and BN.com.
