Extra Giveaways!!! (Last week’s winner is Elf…I think she’s owed a few gifts from the week before. I’ll be in touch soon, Elf, my apologies!)

Stephanie Berget is offering an E-copy of Sweet Cowboy Kisses

Colleen L Donnelly is offering a $5 Amazon gift card

(Must be ‘Cowboy’ week :))

Book 1:

Sweet Cowboy Kisses by Stephanie Berget

Snippet A:

When she cleared her throat, he jerked his eyes up to her face. “It won’t do you any good to talk to my breasts. Like most women, it’s my brain that answers questions.” A smart ass and she’d caught him red-handed. His cheeks warmed. Damn it, he was blushing. This woman was not at all what he needed. Time to end this. “I have a ranch, the Circle W. We need a camp cook. A man.” Her eyes narrowed, and her body tensed. “It looks like you need any kind of cook you can get.” She held her hand out, indicating the empty café. “Not a lot of takers.”

Snippet B:

Mother of all things holy! The doorway to the café was filled with Wranglers and muscles and cool gray eyes. He’d had aged well, if she could call twenty-eight aging. The lines of his face had thinned and his muscles were more defined. She found it hard to look away. What was wrong with her brain? She was hardworking, smart and knew enough to take care of herself. Why did the mere sight of this man turn her into a five year old coveting a candy bar?

Snippet C:

Holy neutrons! The heat coming from his gaze nearly set her heart on fire and she leaned toward him. He jerked away like she had Spotted Fever. To cover her embarrassment, she went on the offensive. “I’m a pretty good horseback rider already, right? Maybe even a prodigy.” When he only grunted, she continued. “I might even win the Grand Prix like National Velvet. And I’ll give you all the credit as my trainer.” “National Velvet rode in the Grand National. The Grand Prix is a dressage competition. I don’t do either of those.”

Book 2:

The Cowboy’s Triple Surprise by Barbara White Daille

Buy Link: https://www.amzn.com/dp/B01HB74HZ8

Find Barbara Here: http://www.barbarawhitedaille.com

Snippet A:

He came to a stop beside her, not too near, but close enough to see the long sweep of her lashes as she kept her eyes down, her gaze focused on her work. Close enough to smell the same flowery perfume she had worn last summer when he’d danced with her at the wedding and, a few nights later, when he had slept with her in her bed. He gulped another mouthful of sweet tea and nearly choked on it. She never looked his way. That only made him more determined to get her attention.

Snippet B:

“I appreciate all you’ve done,” she told him, “but I’m fine now. Really. And I won’t be alone. I told you, I have a friend dropping by.” She had called that friend deliberately to give herself an out. Maybe it was the coward’s way out. She couldn’t help that now. Ordinarily, she would stand up for herself and her kids and send this man packing. But somehow, she couldn’t seem to gather the strength to do that. Or to face another argument with him and all the memories that would surface along with it.

Snippet C:

Things could have been different, too, if he hadn’t left. But he had left—without giving her time to find a way to tell him about her pregnancy. Yet in all honesty, how could she put one hundred percent of the blame on him? *Suppose you’d given me the news a long time ago?* he had asked. *How do you know I wouldn’t have stayed in town then?* He’d said nothing about staying with her. She was the one with the long-held dreams of settling down with him someday. Dreams it seemed she couldn’t forget even now.

Book 3:

Mine to Tell by Colleen L Donnelly

Buy link: http://www.amazon.com/Mine-Tell-Colleen-L-Donnelly/dp/1628300027/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1454378481&sr=8-1&keywords=mine+to+tell

Find Colleen here: http://www.colleenldonnelly.com/

Snippet A:

He’d come to feel optimistic about us again, hopeful I’d give in so things could return to his kind of normal. I smiled on the outside while he visited. I smiled for him, smiled for my parents, and even smiled to placate my brother. But I cried when he left, sad that he was so happy over what was nothing more than a weak pretense on my part, and sadder yet because I missed him so. Missed him on the inside, in the places where he’d never, ever, been and where I feared he never would be.

Snippet B:

“I can tell you one thing, she’s your mama’s daughter, and your mama sure doesn’t need any makeup. I know.” James looked for his mama again in Mr. Morgan’s dark eyes. Did Mr. Morgan see her the same way Pop did, and that’s why makeup was forbidden? Mama would probably laugh at all this talk about beauty, she with her faded dresses and unpinned hair. James wanted to laugh like she would, but something in Mr. Morgan’s eyes stopped him. “Your mama’s the most beautiful woman I’ve ever known,” Mr. Morgan said.

Snippet C:

Hearing his voice and seeing his expression ignited tiny flames inside me. Flames that had flickered quietly far too long, done little more than lick the surface of my imagination. Until that day. Each time he spoke after that, something in me flared to life and heated me up from within, bringing what Mama called an unladylike glimmer to my eye. A glimmer that was identical to the one I saw in his eyes, but she never knew that. I never talked about Raymond to her. I didn’t dare.

Extra Giveaways!!!

From Stephanie Queen: Ebook of box set: Scotland Yard Exchange Romantic Suspense: The Complete 5 Book Series

From Michelle O’Leary: Ebook of Vessel of Power (pdf, mobi, or epub) – info link http://a.co/fD9Etv2

Book 1:

The Beachcombers by Stephanie Queen

Buy link: http://amzn.to/2mllk3f

Find Stephanie here:  www.StephanieQueen.com

Snippet A:

“I have the advantage of knowing the island like my own balls.” He winked at her. “What’s your story?” He waited. Not even blinking. She refused to flinch. What kind of man could go from gracious to crass in so short a space of time? She wouldn’t respond to his baiting. She would tough him out. She’d done it before with crasser men than him. “I’m a beach bunny who knows how to shoot straight. What’s your story?” “You leave the shootin’ to me, bunny. Stick to playing heiress surfer.” “You forgot to tell me your story.” “No story. I’ve been around the block. If the world could be called a block. Shot and caught my share of bad guys. I owe the governor, so here I am.”

Snippet B:

“You don’t seem the type to take risks,” she said. “I’m a cop.” It was true. He took risks all the time as a cop and before that, as a special ops soldier. But he handled his personal life in the opposite way. Or he had up until now. “I could have sworn you would go for the kindergarten teacher type.” “And what type are you?” “Unlike you…” She slid her hand inside the waistband of his pants. He said nothing. Didn’t prompt her. Maybe because his teeth were clenched. With her voice scraping over him and leaving him raw and exposed she said, “I am a risk taker.” He managed to respond, albeit in a raspy voice. “What makes you think I’m not?” “Are you?” He took a deep breath. “A boat in the harbor is always safe. But that’s not what a boat is built for.” She laughed. “Well then,” she paused, caressed the tender skin of his belly as she slid her hand lower. “Let’s take your boat out of the harbor and go for a ride.”

Snippet C:

Dane was lucky more than smart. Lucky more than charming. Shana might have left the island and him for good. He had no idea why she hadn’t put her bags on a ferry, taken off from Martha’s Vineyard and never looked back. Instead, she had moved a few blocks away. It felt like she was on the dark side of the moon.

Book 2:

Last Chance by Michelle O’Leary

Find Michelle here: http://molearyauthor.wixsite.com/michelleoleary

Snippet A:

“You should have at least worn a coat,” he growled. As if she hadn’t thought of that already. She rolled her eyes. “Nobody likes a know-it-all. Could you just…?” She froze when he lifted a hand toward her face, gulping the rest of her words. What was he doing? Gaze flashing to his, she couldn’t move, couldn’t speak. His eyes glittered golden fire streaked with dusky green, his face intent and absorbed. When his fingertips touched the side of her neck, she gasped and leaned closer.

Snippet B:

He caught her arm before she could slip into the Shadow. “Is broken how you see me?” Her head rose slowly as if she were reluctant to meet his gaze. A furrow creased her brow and something like pain darkened her green eyes. “No, I don’t see you as broken.” In that moment, he believed her. Maybe it was just something he needed to believe, or maybe it was the look in her eyes. The hint of darkness made him ache to hold her. He could drown in those eyes.

Snippet C:

She held very still, fighting the pull of him, the pure, magnetic energy which demanded a response. He’d be hard to resist in an interrogation room. Suns help her, he was hard to resist outside of one. Would he be this demanding in bed? She blinked at the errant thought and a flush of heat rose up over her skin. Now was not the time for her libido to kick in, but his gaze didn’t waver from hers and she was having trouble thinking.

Book 3:

Fate Captured (Spicy romance) by MM Jaye

Buy Link: http://a.co/hUudygl

Find MM Here: https://fb.com/MMJayeauthor

Snippet A:

His nostrils flared as he sniffed the air, and his gaze landed on the skillet. A vertical line between his brows darkened his gaze. “I cooked for you.” “Who let you in?” My shoulders bunched at the sound of his voice, succumbing to the need to cower before him. “I let myself in.” “The door is locked.” My eyes flicked to the window. “I got in through there.” “Why?” “To cook for you.” “To cook for me?” I took a step forward. If this man was to hire me, I needed to assert myself. “Katerina at the Kavos Hotel told me that you need a cook. I can cook for you.”

Snippet B:

Alex took two silent steps on the thick carpet and was now standing right next to her. Monica stood up mechanically. Her mind raced trying to unjam the clutter of words clogging it. She put out a hand in a brusque move. “Brown-red of Fanari and Gray of Alivery.” Alex raised his full black brows. “Excuse me?” “The … marble. The types of marble down in the lobby and up here,” she said, aware that a “Nice to meet you” might just have been a better way to introduce herself.

Snippet C:

“Was that Plan B or a payback?” At the sound of the guy’s low, deep voice, her heart rate went from fast to frantic. “What was?” Hot guy quirked a thick, dark brow. “Do you make a habit of throwing yourself at men, or was that your way of getting back at me for not falling for your little dance routine earlier?” Anger thickened her blood to the point of clotting it, and her heartbeat markedly dropped. “Did you just imply I stumbled on purpose?”

Snippet A:

Even though buried, her memories continued to breathe under the mountain of life she’d lived. Dare she even speak of them? Their place of residence had become an unmarked grave in her history. Her family had a right to know, after everything that had happened. His world was dark and full of shadows; where would she begin? For over 25 years she had told no one. Now she was being drawn back into his world. It was a time she wanted to forget. The tie that had been bound to her so tightly was about to be broken.

Snippet B:

“It really is good to see you.” His eyes flickered upwards and there it was bam right between her eyes– delight, this time unmasked and blatant. She felt ashamed, a double-dealer. It was not supposed to be like this. It was supposed to be crisp white linen, clear blue cloudless skies. Instead it was clandestine iron ore that left a stain on your hands. Anne of Green Gables would not approve. She sat hands clasped together unable to make eye contact. It would only take a split second for Tony to understand.

Snippet C:

Well that was very bold of me wasn’t it, she thought, not sure where this confident version of herself had come from. Maybe it was the shopping, maybe the shopping made her bold! It was a type of therapy after all! ‘As long as I’m not intruding?’ ‘No no, please intrude away, intrude as much as you like… I mean….’ Stuttering and blushing again, the man must think I’m a bloody moron. Thankfully there was no evidence of the oversized biscuit…at least he won’t think I’m a glutton as well, that’s one blessing.

Snippet A:

“What do you want me to do? I had one idea, and it’s a good idea but you keep screaming at me not to do it, so tell me what you do want!” What Jane wanted was for Sheryl to move over and let her take the wheel, but that wasn’t exactly a viable option at the moment. As a plan B, the only thing she could think of was the next exit. A couple of minutes ago, it had been twenty kilometers away, but at their current speed, surely they’d covered at least half that distance.

Snippet B:

This was a bad idea. How many horror movies had she seen in her life? Was going down into the basement ever a good idea, in any of them? Did it ever end well? Jane knew the answers, but she went down the stairs all the same. She tried to step softly, but they creaked anyway. Whoever was down there had to know they were coming. She continued down regardless, and when she got to the bottom, she called out, “Tishy?”

Snippet C:

“You know that expression ‘if looks could kill’ really is just an expression, right? You can stare at me like that all night if you want, but I’m not changing my mind.” When she’d told him her new plan, Jane had worried, just for a moment or two, that Tom might try to grab the wheel or do something else equally drastic. She wasn’t sure what would have happened if he had; fighting for control of the car with a hostile passenger had not come up in her Driver’s Ed classes back in high school.

Decades of Love by Sin City Romance Writers (Lynn Crain is one of them.)

Snippet A:

Hell, who was she kidding? Once she got back, her life would be anything but well-ordered as she’d be unique, being someone who had successfully time-travelled. Unfortunately, that would all be kept within the confines of the Time Travel Bureau as the world could never know how they were kept safe from the Desmond Draeggers of the world. They’d even made her sign a non-disclosure document before MI6 would let her step inside their damn time travel device.

Snippet B:

“That’s all for now and it’s most of what I know. But we all share the same concerns as I’m sure you have. Javed has the specifics on our next contact. And please don’t get mad at me for the unconventional way I have instructed him to give those orders to you. It was necessary.” I turned to look at him suspiciously. “What is she talking about?”

Snippet C:

She stared at him and again noticed his eyes. Like the sky in Nevada – blue, deep, and endless. She could watch them all day, but the force of his hand nearly knocked her on her ass. She blinked several times and remembered where she was. Her throat constricted, and it was everything she could do not to puke. Her eyes darted around her for a moment or two, as her mind rearranged the morning into the right scenario. The slap was probably the best thing he could have done for her.

*** The book is on pre-order right now for an incredible $0.99. We plan to do giveaways the week of release (Feb 28 through March 6.) More details can be found on the Sin City Romance Writers Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/SinCityRomanceWriters/

Snippet A

He opened the door and strode in. She had the radio on and he knew she couldn’t hear him. He leaned against the wall in the hallway at the epicenter of the apartment and waited. She wouldn’t be able to go anywhere without seeing him. Within a minute she emerged from her bedroom wearing a skimpy robe while reading the label on a jar. Although he hadn’t moved, it was like she felt his presence and looked up. Everything froze. Her eyes widened. Then she screamed, threw the jar at him.

Snippet B

“Something tells me I should be worried about a chick who carries duct tape in her trunk.” She suddenly realized how bad that sounded and laughed too. Nothing about this day was going right. “I have it for emergencies, not to tie up my captives.” He crossed his arms, causing his shirt to tighten on his biceps and drawing her eye to a tattoo peeking out. He smiled and added, “Maybe I should take your picture to let my friends know who I’m with in case I disappear.” Oh, man. He was cute. She didn’t want him to be cute.

Snippet C

His breathing was slightly faster than normal. At least he had the excuse of lifting weights. All she’d done was walk down the stairs and ogle him. He bent and she shivered as his body lowered. He grabbed the basket and held it to the side. She tilted her face up. He stared into her eyes, but then his gaze traveled over her whole face, landing on her mouth. The look was so intense that she could almost feel the phantom pressure on her lips.

Snippet A

Adrian straightened, his desire to leave evaporating despite the awkward situation. The glazenwright was beautiful, with a delicate oval face, high cheekbones and a small, straight nose. He knew he was staring, but didn’t want to stop. There was something compelling about this woman aside from her lovely face, which was all he could see. Her heavy, serviceable black cloak and headdress concealed the rest. Her expression captured him. Not the simpering moue of court women, nor the lustful gleam of barmaids or the respectful, downcast eyes of servants. She radiated a quiet confidence he found enticing.

Snippet B

He and his eight men sat alert, deep enough in the forest to avoid being seen while maintaining a clear view of the road through leafless branches. Nine armed men could frighten travelers. ‘Twas best to let them pass. Each man watched, each horse sinking deeper into chilling mire as a mud-covered, black palfrey plodded over the rise in the road, its long mane whipping in the frigid winds. “No rider,” Martin, the scout, murmured. “Look again,” Nicholas replied. At first he too had thought the horse was riderless. Now he could see a woman collapsed on the animal’s back.

Snippet C

“It’s a bit late for such a warning.” Her smooth skin was ashen. A ribbon held thick auburn hair off her oval face, but a few long waves tumbled over her shoulders to tease his hands. She drew herself up as if gathering her composure. Many women would’ve collapsed by now, after receiving and helping a wounded stranger, then hiding him from soldiers who could return at any moment. He admired her strength of will. And her fine features, straight brows framing those golden eyes he couldn’t seem to look away from, her delicate nose and lips. Stunning, but thin.

Soul Seducer by Alicia Dean

Snippet A:

Finally, she forced her eyes open and found herself staring at a water-stained ceiling. When she turned her head to the left, she saw a window covered by thick drapes with a sliver of light showing between the panels. She scowled. Where was she?

“You’re awake.”

She gasped. The voice came from her right. It was coarse, deep and staticy, as if filtered through a speaker. She turned her head toward the voice and knew immediately she was in trouble. If she weren’t in trouble, the man sitting next to the bed probably wouldn’t be wearing a hooded sweatshirt and a Friday the 13th Jason Voorhees hockey mask.

Snippet B:

She lifted her lashes, staring up at him, wanting to lose herself in his glittering blue gaze. Wanting to feel his hands on her body…his full, sensual lips on hers. Wanting to be swept away in whatever madness this was. It felt so strange, yet at the same time, exhilarating, compelling, irresistible…dangerous.

Yes, dangerous. Gulping in a breath, she stepped back. His touch fell away, breaking the strange hold he had on her.

“You! It was you there that night. In the alley…” Her breath came in short gasps as the odd yearning was replaced by fear. “Then again, at the hospital.” She shot her gaze around the room. “Where’s the other one? The blond guy? Who the hell are you?”

Snippet C:

Eyes tightly closed, she pressed her back to the desk, praying the robbers hadn’t heard her scream. I’m going to die…I’ll never see Emma again… Panic built in her chest, and her breathing sped up. I can’t die, please don’t let me die…

No! She would not die. She would survive. She had to.

She tried not to look again, but her gaze was drawn against her will. Sophie’s body lay half-in, half-out of the chair. Her eyes were open. Blood was smeared on her pale yellow blouse. A shudder raced over China’s skin.

Book 1:

A Time to Heal by Bettye Griffin

Snippet A:

When he walked through the waiting room he saw the woman in the cat costume jump out of her seat and begin walking toward him, almost as if she’d been waiting for him. Ignoring her, he kept walking. “Excuse me,” she called. He stopped and turned, part of him annoyed as he wondered what she wanted with him now, and another part—a very specific part—trying not to notice how sexy she looked in her black cat costume. She’s bad luck, he told himself, just like any other black cat.

Snippet B:

“Wait a minute,” Faye said. “This guy you’re so looking forward to seeing at your reunion. He’s an UNDERTAKER?” “Yes…what’s wrong with that?” “What’s wrong with that? Come on, Robin. If you don’t care where your man’s hands have been, you might as well start dating a gynecologist. They make a lot more money.” “It’s a decent, honest living. Besides, before you call someone else’s profession disgusting, Faye, maybe you should look at your own. You spend all day treating skin ulcers and wounds. Is Godfrey ever reluctant to touch you because of where YOUR hands have been?”

Snippet C:

“Part of me can’t believe you’re that little girl I used to help teach English to,” he murmured. She raised her chin in defiance. “I haven’t been a child for a long time, Devin. I’m a woman now.” He raised her hand to his lips. “Yes,” he said. “And I’m a man. We’re obviously attracted to each other. What do you suppose we should do about that?” She didn’t waver. Instead, her eyes firmly locked with his, she replied, “The same thing men and women who are attracted to each other have been doing since the beginning of time.”

Snippet A:

For a moment, he mulled if anything over one hundred years was old for a Centaur, and if that were the reason for his bedtime boredom. Doubtful. As long as my heart keeps beating, I’ll never be too old for this. Maybe bored, but never too old. So, why did life lose its luster for him? Moreover, when? As he pounded into Adelpha, Aleksander reminded himself he’d been raised to be a warrior. He prided himself at having worked into his position of Head Palace Guard. If not a soldier for Queen Savella, then what? Gigolo?

Snippet B

Tilting her head with care, he sucked in a breath and froze. “What is it? Snake bite?” Samuel raised the brass lantern higher and leaned over for a better view. Rhycious tapped his thumb against her neck. Designs a few shades darker than her natural color marred the creamy complexion. The millennia old skin formation carved its way into his painful memories. It started behind her ear, an inch wide at the hairline, and extended to the other side. The words choked out of him. There was no use trying to hide his revulsion. “Wood Nymph.”

Snippet C

Hunters. She was sure of it. Without their long, scoped rifles and camouflage clothing, they were hard to pick out. Nevertheless, those men monitored her closely and it gnawed at her sense of security. Abelia needed to make a getaway—the sooner, the better. In broad daylight, there was nowhere to shimmer without running the risk of someone seeing her. People filled the park, the sidewalks. Humans were everywhere. “You’re okay.” She gasped in surprise, and her gaze flew to his. As much as she’d like to believe this handsome male, she was definitely not all right.

Snippet A:

Brendon came to a halt and his whole body tensed as he stared further down the crowded corridor. “You were right about Gar showing up.” The entire time she’d known him, absolutely nothing seemed to faze her apartment-invading locust. She’d screamed and threatened him a thousand times, and at best, he would make her a cup of tea. At worst, he’d laugh at her. Yet today, the mere sight of his brother in the distance stressed him.

Snippet B:

Carrie turned and faced him. “Trent, I don’t want you to buy my clothes!” He smiled as if he thought her protest silly. “I don’t mind. I buy women things all the time, far more expensive than a dress.” “But I mind. My boss shouldn’t buy me clothes.” With a heavy sigh, he shrugged. “Okay, you can pay for it.” God! Why couldn’t she get through to him? “That’s my point. I probably can’t afford a hair comb in this shop.” He grimaced. “Yeah, avoid those. One of them costs almost as much as my car.”

Snippet C:

Upon settling down on the toilet, she noticed the floor to ceiling mirror facing her and screamed at the sight of the creature within in it. Short black hair spouted about its head, black circles surrounded both eyes and swirls of black flowed down the cheeks. Black lips stretched in horror as if in a nightmare. Pulling up her pants, she moved closer to the mirror. She was a ghoul, an honest to God ghoul!

Snippet A:

Sidarra breathed her well-known scent and relished her warm hands on his chest and her tongue in his mouth. Deep down something stirred, a hidden emotion, a wish to be fulfilled, a memory he cherished. He closed his eyes and saw Yisnia in the woods of Ethisan, lifting her dress to find her naked beneath. The desire she had woken in him those days and nights in his small hut lived in him, was part of the memory they shared.

Snippet B:

Kyra took a deep breath. Oliver was such a bad influence! She could imagine Julian too well without clothes. She wanted to perish the thought, but it returned in a loop. “Do you think that Mrs. Bickerham is at her binoculars right now?”

Oliver laughed. “You mean after the demonstration of my domination over Gregory she’ll wait for me to take down Julian?” He wiggled his brows. “Nah, that would be your show, not mine.”

“Not mine, either. Locking up Julian in the kennel, yeah, right. Forget it,” she warned when he turned to continue the daydream.

“But just think of it.”

Unable to stop him, she sighed. Only with a gag. Oh, hell, he might like that.

Snippet C:

She helped him out of his jacket and shirt. The sleeves were bloody.

Jazmin winced. “You were shot! Oh, my god!” She took his face in both hands. “Captain, this isn’t nothing. Come, sit down on the bed. Let me have a look at it.”

“Jaz, it’s all right. The medic already stitched me up. Nothing—”

“If you say nothing to worry about one more time, I’ll give you something to worry about.”

Ethan smiled. “Okay, do what you have to do.” She directed him to the bed and he lay down slowly. He was exhausted suddenly, and Jazmin’s warm hands were consoling. He melted on the warm covers and his eyes closed all by themselves.

Snippet A:

The most beautiful man in the world froze with his hand on the door. “Please don’t. This is a misunderstanding.” He blew out a long breath. “However, if that is what you want, I must advise you that Mayfair Electronics, 21 Dover Street, London, W1S 4LT will accept return of a flawed unit for a full refund.”

“Stop! You sound like a robot.” Her fisted hands struck the air.

He didn’t flinch. “I am a robot. That’s why this is an inane conversation.”

“Inane? I find you with another woman in the bedroom, and this conversation is silly? Oh, no, Christian. Did you invite her here?”

Snippet B:

From The Night Before Doomsday:    I groaned in the exquisite pain of desire. My mouth opened, taking her tongue inside, dominating the kiss. Desire was death, a living rigor mortis. As my feverish hands explored her body, she moaned and whispered. Thought sizzled to fog. Spellbound, I kissed her lips, her eyes, her cheeks. When I pressed my mouth to her velvet throat, she shivered in my embrace, and I was lost.

The walls of my house closed in on me. Folding Magdalene in a wing, I lifted her and took her into the garden. Here darkness and my wings would hide our sin.

Snippet C:

“Morgan, I really must go.” She hesitated. “John will be here in a few minutes.”

“John,” I spat. Indeed, the man was top of my hit list. “How is the pregnancy progressing?”

“I’m fine.” She sighed, but her hard tone softened somewhat. “Goodbye.”

Her voice trembled. Was she crying? My heart ached to think of her in tears.

“I love you,” I said. “And it isn’t goodbye.”

Raw Silk by Lisabet Sarai

Snippet A:

The elegance of my hotel room compensated to some extent for its modest size. Gold-fringed tiebacks held the brocade drapes on either side, revealing lace sheers. Outside the tall windows, a wrought iron balcony protruded over the narrow street. The bed was barely double width, but piled high with fluffy feather pillows. Art Deco curlicues of gleaming brass twined at the head and foot.

Before I’d met my Master, I would have admired the furnishings for the quality of the materials and the exceptional taste that had influenced their selection. Now all I saw were bondage possibilities—the headboard, the steel rings securing the tiebacks, even the balcony rails.

Snippet B:

“Having second thoughts, little one?” He flicked her earlobe with his tongue and sent electric currents streaking down to her sex. Although the gesture seemed playful, his tone was serious, without his characteristic mockery.

She turned her back to the dawn, seeking his eyes. “To be honest, yes.” The ache under her sternum made it hard to speak. “Last night, everything seemed so clear. This morning…”

“This morning you have doubts.” He combed his fingers through her curls, massaging her scalp. “Ah, pet! When I woke to find myself alone in our bed, I knew you’d been thinking too much.”

Snippet C:

The Domme’s face was gorgeously exotic, high cheekbones and a wide, crimson-painted mouth. One forgot all that beauty, though, when captured by the woman’s eyes. They were an icy emerald green. Like jade knives they penetrated her soul. She felt hopelessly weak and exposed, frightened and guilty. At the same time, they made her secret parts ache. She had a sudden urge to run to the woman, begging forgiveness, offering herself for punishment. Still, she remained transfixed, frozen in the Mistress’ gaze like a rabbit before a snake.

Finally, Mistress Clara nodded, as if satisfied. She gestured toward an empty table near the platform.

Snippet A:

His voice was low and full of everything that scared her about his kind, full of everything that drove her need and her body to a panting want that curled her toes. It made her mad enough to bite.

“You’ve got trouble and I’m the one you come to?” She folded her arms across her chest and looked him up and down with a sneer. “From your reaction, I guess I came to the right place.”

“And you can go straight back out the door you came in too.”

“Not until we talk.” She cocked her chin up.

Snippet B:

As his hand slid over her shoulder, his fingers nudged her dress down, letting the fabric glide to the top of her dress, though careful not to expose her. He leaned in close, and for a moment she thought he might kiss her. Then his fingers dipped below her bodice to caress her breast and her breath caught in her throat. She could not find words to protest, couldn’t make her mouth move to tell him to stop. He removed his fingers and she sighed.

Snippet C:

“So now you propose that I strip my clothes off and let you have at me with all the skill your people devote to

such things?”

He paused to stare at her. Something twinkled in his eyes that was part lust and part amusement. “And is that what you think I want to do with you, have at you?”

She folded her arms across her chest. “Of course. That’s the reason we’re in this godforsaken place, so that you can get your hands on me and dazzle me with the supposed skill you have in luring women into your bed.”

Snippet A:

Cupping her chin, he stared at her, his eyes full of half promises. “Oh, hell, I may get my face slapped for this, but…” His hand moved to the back of her neck as he lowered his head and captured her lips in a kiss that stole her breath away.

For a moment, she closed her eyes and gave herself up to the kiss. Then a door slammed somewhere in the house, reminding her of where they were. She pushed him away. “How dare you?”

He gave her a lazy grin. “What’s that old saying? Nothing ventured, nothing gained?”

Snippet B:

A laugh burbled up from her throat and her cheeks warmed at the reminder of his kiss. She hadn’t expected such a romantic gesture from him. It wasn’t as if he were born a gentleman. Perhaps she needed to change her assumptions. She’d expected boorishness from him simply because of his birth, not taking into account that he’d been educated in the same schools as her brother. She’d best start thinking of her prospective bridegroom as a social equal.

Lud, was she such a snob?

Snippet C:

Scant minutes later, Mr. Chaplin led her outside to a closed traveling carriage standing in the inn yard. He must be a gentleman of some means, she mused, to have his own carriage. He supervised the loading of their luggage then held out his hand to help her into the carriage. As she stepped up, the wind caught her veil and blew it upwards. For a second she had a clear glimpse of his startled face.

He had seen the bruise.

Snippet A:

“Enrique, this is Skylar.”

A man behind the counter got to his feet. Not the same sandy blond from the day before. This guy had dark hair, darker eyes. His yesterday-morning shadow was split by a brilliant smile that probably got him whatever he wanted whenever he wanted it. Gorgeous.

Suddenly the smile fell away and his golden-brown face darkened like the sky in a sudden summer storm. Skylar’s steps faltered at the onslaught of black emotion that emanated from this man. She blinked, filled her lungs, struggling to make sense of it. A set-up gone south?

Enrique said nothing.

Snippet B:

Patrick crouched behind Lacy in the open cargo area behind the driver’s seat. The muzzle of his gun jabbed the nape of her neck. She followed his commands until she neared the end of Center Street. They were headed out of town. Her gut told her not to go. But her gut didn’t have a solution for the weapon aimed at her brain stem. On the other hand, if she did as he said, she would end up dead. Or worse.

As Lacy ferried herself closer to that fate, fear somehow gave way to reason. Why wait? And why give Patrick the reins?

Snippet C:

“Hello.” Tara wanted to say more but her brain shorted out. This guy was not from Pine View. He looked like he’d stepped out of a magazine. Rugged and clean-cut at the same time. His wavy blond hair was longer than most businessmen wore theirs, but his jeans and button-down shirt weren’t the kind a laborer could afford. They looked as though they’d been tailored to fit. His sleek leather jacket probably cost more than she made in three months. Must be a tourist who took the wrong exit.

He flashed a slightly crooked smile that made her breath catch.

Snippet A:

‘I think Paul’s in love with you.’
‘What?’ Kate sat up straight, her disbelief ringing round the room. ‘Are you crazy? In love! He’s so damn polite and stiff. In fact, he’s so bloody polite it’s intimidating. You’ve got it way, way wrong.’ She shook her head vehemently, staring at Orla. Her friend was normally so astute about people.
‘I’ll leave you to read it.’ Orla stood. ‘Tell me then if I’m wrong.’ .

Snippet B:

I arranged myself on his warm shirt, legs bent, hugging my knees. Léon stretched his sun-browned legs in front of him and leaned back against the cliff. His warm skin smelled of the sea. Although he’d barely spoken, I had the impression still that he was filled with a pent-up joy. I, too, was bursting with rapture. The shining sea, the warmth, and above all, Léon beside me made it almost impossible to organise my thoughts. I tried to calm the fluttering starlings, keeping my gaze away from his warm, damp limbs and resolutely on the waves.

Snippet C:

‘You know you can stay.’
She thought she detected a tremor in his voice. She lifted her head swiftly to find his eyes steady on hers. The light had been falling gradually, dusk seeping slowly through the kitchen window. The flickering candles gave Jean-Luc’s face a sepia glow that lit Sophie from within with a sudden rush of warmth. Filled with wild longing, she leaned forward. Jean-Luc reached across the table to take her face in both his hands, trapping it there.
‘Stay with me.’

Snippet A:

God, she couldn’t breathe. Exhaustion threatened to drop her in her tracks, her lungs burned with it. Perspiration ran down her face in rivulets, mixing with mascara and stinging her eyes. But she didn’t stop running, couldn’t afford to slow her pace for one instant.
The tall, thin, smartly dressed woman darted up the deserted backstreet; her stunning Jimmy Choo’s tapping out a wild tattoo on the cement as she raced along. She took time only to send a frantic glance over her shoulder through the darkness every few seconds. Yes, she knew better than to stop moving.

Snippet B:

Their eyes met, and she strolled toward him slowly, taking her time and gauging his mood. She stepped right up into his personal space and paused for a full ten seconds, drawing out the tension that was beginning to simmer. “Do you know what I’d really like right now, Evan?”
She ran her tongue around her lips—which grabbed his undivided attention—and smiled inwardly.
He adopted a casual stance, but continued to stare at her lips. “Not a clue what you want. Enlighten me.”
Liar, she thought. Surprise dawned briefly on his face when she leaned in closer and whispered, “My car keys.”

Snippet C:

Eyeballing the shirt she was wearing—his shirt—that ended well above her knees, he ran his tongue over his teeth. Raising his eyes, their gazes met. The look he gave her had her pulse picking up speed.
“Nice shirt,” he said, strolling toward her. When he reached her, he lifted her chin with a finger and settled his lips on hers. “What do you have on underneath it,” he murmured against her lips as his other hand began to gather the shirt material against her leg.
“Not a thing,” she replied, melting into him and returning his kiss.

Snippet A:

Susan finished her soft drink and tossed the can into a nearby recycling bin. “I could make Kurt ask me out if I wanted to.”
“Yeah? Prove it. Get him to ask you out. I’ll bet you fifty dollars you can’t do it,” Robin taunted. “All he’s interested in is football.”
Melissa Taylor, Susan’s best friend, cleared her throat. “How long would she have to get the date?”
“Two weeks ought to be enough for an old pro like Susan.” Robin snickered as her gaze swept around the lounge. “Would the rest of you like to get a piece of the action?”

Snippet B:

Scooping up a handful of pebbles, she made her way down the wall. The last pebble didn’t drop where she wanted, so she stooped down to pick it up. Something promptly bit her. Bit her and latched on to her ankle and refused to let go. Snake!
Shrieking, she ran toward the front yard. Oh, thank goodness! Cade was in the front yard. “Snake,” she screamed. “It’s eating me alive.”
Cade’s face blurred as she streaked past him. “Aimee!” he yelled.
The snake bit harder. Aimee howled and ran faster, making circles in the yard. This time Cade tried to grab her as she rushed past him. “Help me!” Aimee screeched.
Cade took off after her, but Aimee put on an extra burst of speed when the snake bit her again. He finally brought her down not far from where they’d tied the horses. It scared Princess, who jerked her reins free and galloped away.
“Snake,” Aimee panted. “Get it off.”
Cade rolled onto his back and laughed. And laughed and laughed. “It’s a briar, not a snake.”

Snippet C:

She wasn’t alone in the bedroom. She saw a shadowy
figure silhouetted against the drapes, and Julianna supposed he must have made a noise that wakened her.
She broke into a cold sweat. Should she scream or pretend to be asleep? She quickly made her decision as the figure approached the bed. “Buck, help me,” she screamed.
She had hoped that the noise would frighten the attacker away, but instead he crossed the room in two big strides and grabbed her. Julianna struggled mightily, but the bedcovers hampered her, and the intruder was a strong man.

Author Interview with Jennifer Perkins ~ Upcoming Release: Daring Return

Another fun interview…please help me welcome Jennifer Perkins…

  1. Where did you get the title for your book?

Since I’m writing for the Carly Phillips’ Dare To Love kindle world, I knew Daring Return would be a sports themed book. Lucky readers here are getting a sneak peak of my cover since it hasn’t been revealed yet! The sport in my novella is football and I wanted to have my title reflect this. Originally, my working title was Daring Rebound. My children pointed out that my original title was more for basketball and they helped me retitle it for football. Ha, they’re bigger fans than me! Who knew?

  1. Some authors have said life sometimes gets in the way. Have you experienced this?

Haha. I have to laugh, because I was originally scheduled to be here several months ago, but life did happen to get in the way. My husband had knee surgery last year due to a fall and this week he had his sixth knee surgery. After the original operation, he’s been fighting infections. The first infection cleared, but he had a secondary infection. Between administering his medication through his picc line, taking care of the house (I actually wired a light fixture into our bathroom), and bringing him where he needs to be, I carve out time to write. It’s tough, but here I am at midnight creating the stories I hope my readers love to read.

  1. Are there any tricks or habits you use when creating a story?

Some authors I know write their stories by creating the characters first, some like to create the location first. I like to think about a situation or conflict and how two general people might resolve this. After working out the conflict, I like to create the actual characters and then try to see what location would best fit the story.

  1. Would you rather have a bad review or no review?

Reviews are very personal and there could be a myriad of reasons for what a person writes. I feel there’s value in any review, good or bad and they can help a writer grow. Having said that, I generally have a rule when reading reviews of books I think I’d like to read or a product I wish to purchase. I tend to not read the five star reviews. I find a lot of those come from an author’s friends and or family so they may be biased. I also tend to stay away from one star reviews, since I’ve found a lot of those are complaints on delivery or other issues not related to the actual book or product.

  1. What genre have you never written that you’d like to write?

Oh, good question. I have a few ideas for thrillers, something that might be along the lines of a Steven King thriller. I’d love to tell you about these, but they’re still in the idea stage. They’ve been on my mind lately and actually something I might try and develop later this year.

  1. What would you want your readers to come away with after they read Daring Return?

I’d like to think they’re moved in some way by this and any of my stories. I like to write sweet, so Daring Return is outside my comfort zone. This story has a BDSM flair, a first for me, and I hope the readers enjoy the way the story evolves. I believe readers like to experience stories and become immersed in our created worlds. Sometimes readers read for a reprieve from the turmoil their own lives take and I’d like to think I helped.

Thank you for joining me, it was great getting to know you. Now, please tell us about your book…

Blurb:  Rose Perez is a physical therapist who shares a secret with Miami Thunder halfback, Bruce Hawkins. They also have separate careers outside of their shared world that could become derailed if their secret gets out. Neither had wanted a relationship. Does Rose have what it takes to look past the life Bruce is trying to portray or is she starting to fall in love?

Bruce decided early in life that true love was something other men wanted. Does he have what it takes to help Rose find real happiness without risking his heart?

Excerpt:

Before Bruce could say anything else, he heard the slam of Rick’s phone in his ear. The noise factor was probably one of the reasons Rick hadn’t used his cell. After the falling out he had with Rose, Bruce decided she’d be the best person to work with. He’d acted as a jerk, not letting her explain what happened. He needed to give her the benefit of the doubt and if he had to, he’d apologize to her. This day couldn’t get any worse. Then Bruce’s phone rang and he saw Randy’s number on the display.

“How much are you looking for or are you calling to tell me you found a real job?”

“That’s no way to greet your little brother,” Randy said.

“You stopped being my brother when you decided drugs, booze, and women were more important than family.” Bruce got out of his car and slammed his door shut in frustration. This was one conversation he’d rather not have.

“That’s why I’m here. So we can bond. Actually, it was mom’s idea. She suggested I crash here with you a while. You know, maybe pick up some kinda inspiration.”

Bruce had just gotten in the elevator and punched the number for his floor when his brother’s request registered with what he said. “What do you mean crash here? Where the hell are you?”

“Sitting on your couch looking at the great views you have. You know you’ve got a really nice place.”

“Ever Since” – New Release by Dorothy Callahan – #99Cents

Please help me welcome Dorothy Callahan with her latest release…

Thank you for having me! I’m excited to be sharing a bit about my new release, which is a slight diversion from my normal writings. I tend to write action/adventure/romance, but with Ever Since, I felt Cora had a different story to tell. After all, she’s stuck home with her family over the holidays, hiding the fact she just lost her job, and who did her Nana invite to stay with them but the one man who broke her heart? Add a Nor’easter and the biggest bash of the year, and you’ll see why Cora is all sass and crass when it comes to Matty.

If you love animals like I do, you’ll be happy to see them pop up in all my stories. Cora is no exception; she’s a licensed veterinary technician with a rescued bunny who finds herself roped in to taking care of all the family’s pets while she’s there.

Cora is first introduced in my book “IMPENETRABLE: Let No One In,” which is available for FREE right now on my website, www.dorothycallahan.com. All I need is the email address to send it to and it’s yours! (She shows up again in “CRAZY LITTLE FLING,” too.)

Blurb:

Gorgeous. Scottish. A musician—but not in the traditional sense. No, Matteu MacKenzie is one of the best bagpipe players around—a Master Piper. And Cora had given her heart to him, only to have him break it by choosing his music over her. But a secret they share is tearing them apart, and unless Cora is willing to acknowledge what happened, Matty feels their love can never be redeemed. And by midnight on New Year’s Eve, their chances will expire.

EVER SINCE

they met as teens, they clicked. Completely.

EVER SINCE

they started dating, they knew they belonged together.

EVER SINCE

the car accident that ended innocent lives, Cora has been on her own—abandoned, bereft, betrayed by the only man she’d ever loved.

EVER SINCE

the day Matty’s distracted driving almost cost Cora her life, he’s been unable to cope with how deeply he failed her.

They have not been the same

EVER SINCE.

Interested to see how they interact? Here’s one of the first scenes with them together, having come in from the cold after wrangling Cora’s mom’s horses back into the barn:

Perhaps he sensed her thoughts, because once more Matty leaned in. “Roll in to me, mo chridhe. Yer family is starting to find yer actions a wee bit cold to me.”

Cora hissed, “Just because Nana and Mom haven’t told anyone doesn’t give you carte blanche to pretend nothing is wrong between us.”

“Aya, everything is wrong. We’re but inches apart, yet I canna see over yer walls.”

“Walls you put there.”

“Aya. Walls I intend to knock down.”

“Intend away, but you made your choice. These are the consequences.”

“Aya, but a decision made in panic, mo chridhe, is no decision at all. I was blind with fear and pain and desperate to prove maself to ye.”

Despite his pathetic attempt at a plea, it was his familiar endearment that made Cora turn to glare at him. “Stop calling me that. I mean it. And panic or no, you had fourteen months to contact me. Which you didn’t. Which means we’re done.”

She couldn’t read his expression, but it seemed guarded. “No, lass. We’re na done until death has stolen me.”

“Stolen me. I could have died in that hospital, but you left anyway.”

His eyes swept down, the long lashes fanning against his cheeks, sending shadows along his high cheekbones as the fire undulated before them. “Aya, I’ve failed ye.”

“Yes. You have.”

Her declaration made his lips curl. “Ye never mince words, Cora. It’s what I’ve always admired so about ye. Life is black and white to ye. No gray. Ever.” He nodded once and got up, tucking the wool blanket around her as he left the living room.

And Cora finally got to sit before the fire in absolute silence to enjoy her cocoa.

Funny, it seemed so much hotter only seconds ago.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Dorothy Callahan is one of those authors who annoys other authors by refusing to be tied down to one genre. If a tale demands to be told—even if she’s never read a single story like it—she’ll find a way to write the book of her heart. This is the only way to quiet those demanding characters begging to be heard.

She lives in New York with her wonderful husband, a pride of demanding cats, and two loyal dogs, all rescued from shelters (well, not the husband). Her love of both animals and writing prompted her to start READ AND RESCUE, an organization where animal-loving authors and readers can find one another. The unique aspect to this group is that each author pledges a portion of proceeds to his/her favorite animal cause.

When Dorothy is not writing, she enjoys shopping for antiques and renovating their pre-Civil War house. If you are interested in learning more about Dorothy or how to help other animals in need, please visit her at dorothycallahan.com, dorothycallahanauthor@gmail.com, Facebook at Dorothy Callahan Author, or Twitter under Dorothy Callahan@Callahanauthor.

Thank you, Alicia, for letting me join you today! I hope you had fun getting to know these two characters a bit. I enjoyed the chance to share.
