Snippet A

He opened the door and strode in. She had the radio on and he knew she couldn’t hear him. He leaned against the wall in the hallway at the epicenter of the apartment and waited. She wouldn’t be able to go anywhere without seeing him. Within a minute she emerged from her bedroom wearing a skimpy robe while reading the label on a jar. Although he hadn’t moved, it was like she felt his presence and looked up. Everything froze. Her eyes widened. Then she screamed, threw the jar at him.

Snippet B

“Something tells me I should be worried about a chick who carries duct tape in her trunk.” She suddenly realized how bad that sounded and laughed too. Nothing about this day was going right. “I have it for emergencies, not to tie up my captives.” He crossed his arms, causing his shirt to tighten on his biceps and drawing her eye to a tattoo peeking out. He smiled and added, “Maybe I should take your picture to let my friends know who I’m with in case I disappear.” Oh, man. He was cute. She didn’t want him to be cute.

Snippet C

His breathing was slightly faster than normal. At least he had the excuse of lifting weights. All she’d done was walk down the stairs and ogle him. He bent and she shivered as his body lowered. He grabbed the basket and held it to the side. She tilted her face up. He stared into her eyes, but then his gaze traveled over her whole face, landing on her mouth. The look was so intense that she could almost feel the phantom pressure on her lips.

Snippet A

Adrian straightened, his desire to leave evaporating despite the awkward situation. The glazenwright was beautiful, with a delicate oval face, high cheekbones and a small, straight nose. He knew he was staring, but didn’t want to stop. There was something compelling about this woman aside from her lovely face, which was all he could see. Her heavy, serviceable black cloak and headdress concealed the rest. Her expression captured him. Not the simpering moue of court women, nor the lustful gleam of barmaids or the respectful, downcast eyes of servants. She radiated a quiet confidence he found enticing.

Snippet B

He and his eight men sat alert, deep enough in the forest to avoid being seen while maintaining a clear view of the road through leafless branches. Nine armed men could frighten travelers. ‘Twas best to let them pass. Each man watched, each horse sinking deeper into chilling mire as a mud-covered, black palfrey plodded over the rise in the road, its long mane whipping in the frigid winds. “No rider,” Martin, the scout, murmured. “Look again,” Nicholas replied. At first he too had thought the horse was riderless. Now he could see a woman collapsed on the animal’s back.

Snippet C

“It’s a bit late for such a warning.” Her smooth skin was ashen. A ribbon held thick auburn hair off her oval face, but a few long waves tumbled over her shoulders to tease his hands. She drew herself up as if gathering her composure. Many women would’ve collapsed by now, after receiving and helping a wounded stranger, then hiding him from soldiers who could return at any moment. He admired her strength of will. And her fine features, straight brows framing those golden eyes he couldn’t seem to look away from, her delicate nose and lips. Stunning, but thin.

Book 3:

Soul Seducer by Alicia Dean

Buy Link: https://www.amazon.com/Soul-Seducer-Alicia-Dean-ebook/dp/B01M6YGVI3/

SoulSeducer_CVR_XSML

Snippet A:

Finally, she forced her eyes open and found herself staring at a water-stained ceiling. When she turned her head to the left, she saw a window covered by thick drapes with a sliver of light showing between the panels. She scowled. Where was she?

“You’re awake.”

She gasped. The voice came from her right. It was coarse, deep and staticy, as if filtered through a speaker. She turned her head toward the voice and knew immediately she was in trouble. If she weren’t in trouble, the man sitting next to the bed probably wouldn’t be wearing a hooded sweatshirt and a Friday the 13th Jason Voorhees hockey mask.

Snippet B:

She lifted her lashes, staring up at him, wanting to lose herself in his glittering blue gaze. Wanting to feel his hands on her body…his full, sensual lips on hers. Wanting to be swept away in whatever madness this was. It felt so strange, yet at the same time, exhilarating, compelling, irresistible…dangerous.

Yes, dangerous. Gulping in a breath, she stepped back. His touch fell away, breaking the strange hold he had on her.

“You! It was you there that night. In the alley…” Her breath came in short gasps as the odd yearning was replaced by fear. “Then again, at the hospital.” She shot her gaze around the room. “Where’s the other one? The blond guy? Who the hell are you?”

Snippet C:

Eyes tightly closed, she pressed her back to the desk, praying the robbers hadn’t heard her scream. I’m going to die…I’ll never see Emma again… Panic built in her chest, and her breathing sped up. I can’t die, please don’t let me die…

No! She would not die. She would survive. She had to.

She tried not to look again, but her gaze was drawn against her will. Sophie’s body lay half-in, half-out of the chair. Her eyes were open. Blood was smeared on her pale yellow blouse. A shudder raced over China’s skin.

A Demon’s Witch by Tena Stetler #TWRP

Fellow AHA Author Tena Stetler is sharing about her Paranormal Romance, A Demon’s Witch

tena7-300-2

Best selling author, Tena Stetler, uses her over-active imagination to spin tales of paranormal romance/suspense and cozy mysteries. Her spicy romances spin the adventures of magical kick-ass women and mystical alpha males that dare to love them. From demons to faeries and witches to vampires her intriguing characters take roads less traveled to draw you into exciting tales that  engage the imagination and warm the heart.

51oxj6gawvl-_sy346_

Tena’s Inspiration for A Demon’s Witch:

A Demon’s Witch was my debut novel and has remained close to my heart. A Demon’s Witch hit the market and garnered best seller status. It earned The Romantic Reviews Readers Choice 2016 Nominee in the paranormal romance category.   I love talking about this story.

The ideas begin to percolate as I sat in a beauty salon listening to the chatter from other customers. One woman swore she’d been approached by a vampire want-to-be.

This got me to thinking, which is scary in and of itself. What if the hairdresser was an alpha male, Demon Overlord of the Western Hemisphere that owned a multi-species salon in Washington DC? Enter a powerful witch, whose beauty caught the eye of the demon on a rainy day when she rushed into his salon. Now, unbeknownst to him, she is not any ordinary witch, but the little sister of the demon’s enforcer. Now you have a romance with unbelievable complications.

The story became a series, but the other planned books in the series took a strange turn when the majority of readers and reviewers clamored for the enforcer, Tristian’s story to be next in line. I’d never considered writing a book on the witch’s brother, the demon’s enforcer. But after mulling it over for several months and publishing three unrelated books,

I am excited to announce A Warlock’s Secrets (Tristian’s story) is awaiting cover art and will be published spring 2017. So please watch for it!

I hope you enjoy my blurb and peek into A Demon’s Witch:

Keeping a lid on all the paranormal beings inhabiting Washington D.C., is a daunting job. Bruce, a six hundred year old demon and the Territory Overlord of the Western Hemisphere, keeps his finger on the pulse of DC’s power players through the activities at his highly successful Wycked Hair Salon. His movie star good looks and body builder physique keeps his dance card full and the rumor mills running.  Within these walls, his anonymity is safe, mostly.

Bruce’s world spins out of control when Angelique, a pint size, gorgeous witch, with an attitude breezes through the doors of his salon. She is the younger sister of Tristian, Bruce’s long time trusted enforcer, whose professional skills are second to none. Tristian is furious at the relationship between Bruce and Angelique, a dangerous situation, but something darker threatens them all. Will undeniable attraction between demon and witch tear their worlds apart?

Excerpt:

At two in the morning he awoke feeling her restlessness, listening he heard her soft sobs. He pulled on his black silk lounge pants and grabbed the robe from the foot of his bed. Padding silently in his bare feet down the hall, he paused at her bedroom door just as her anguished scream filled the room. He was at the side of her bed a second later. Gathering her onto his lap, he held her unyielding body to his until her flailing limbs quieted and her troubled violet eyes opened. Cognizant of where she was now and with whom, she flung her arms around his neck and clung tight as shivers racked her slight frame.

Megan came running from the other wing of the house where the staff lived during the week. “Is everything all right?” She peeked inside Angie’s bedroom door.

“Just a nightmare, nothing to worry about. She’s awake now.

“Oh no my Lord,” Megan said in a low frantic whisper.

“Don’t call me that,” he growled, his amber eyes tinged with orange glowed in the dark room.

“Sorry. There’s something dark and dangerous chasing that one.” She nodded in Angie’s direction. “It’s not of this world.”

He lowered his voice and spoke kindly. “Go back to bed, I’ve got this handled.” He paused for a beat exhaling slowly. “For now.”

Snippet A:

When he walked through the waiting room he saw the woman in the cat costume jump out of her seat and begin walking toward him, almost as if she’d been waiting for him. Ignoring her, he kept walking. “Excuse me,” she called. He stopped and turned, part of him annoyed as he wondered what she wanted with him now, and another part—a very specific part—trying not to notice how sexy she looked in her black cat costume. She’s bad luck, he told himself, just like any other black cat.

Snippet B:

“Wait a minute,” Faye said. “This guy you’re so looking forward to seeing at your reunion. He’s an UNDERTAKER?” “Yes…what’s wrong with that?” “What’s wrong with that? Come on, Robin. If you don’t care where your man’s hands have been, you might as well start dating a gynecologist. They make a lot more money.” “It’s a decent, honest living. Besides, before you call someone else’s profession disgusting, Faye, maybe you should look at your own. You spend all day treating skin ulcers and wounds. Is Godfrey ever reluctant to touch you because of where YOUR hands have been?”

Snippet C:

“Part of me can’t believe you’re that little girl I used to help teach English to,” he murmured. She raised her chin in defiance. “I haven’t been a child for a long time, Devin. I’m a woman now.” He raised her hand to his lips. “Yes,” he said. “And I’m a man. We’re obviously attracted to each other. What do you suppose we should do about that?” She didn’t waver. Instead, her eyes firmly locked with his, she replied, “The same thing men and women who are attracted to each other have been doing since the beginning of time.”

Snippet A:

For a moment, he mulled if anything over one hundred years was old for a Centaur, and if that were the reason for his bedtime boredom. Doubtful. As long as my heart keeps beating, I’ll never be too old for this. Maybe bored, but never too old. So, why did life lose its luster for him? Moreover, when? As he pounded into Adelpha, Aleksander reminded himself he’d been raised to be a warrior. He prided himself at having worked into his position of Head Palace Guard. If not a soldier for Queen Savella, then what? Gigolo?

Snippet B

Tilting her head with care, he sucked in a breath and froze. “What is it? Snake bite?” Samuel raised the brass lantern higher and leaned over for a better view. Rhycious tapped his thumb against her neck. Designs a few shades darker than her natural color marred the creamy complexion. The millennia old skin formation carved its way into his painful memories. It started behind her ear, an inch wide at the hairline, and extended to the other side. The words choked out of him. There was no use trying to hide his revulsion. “Wood Nymph.”

Snippet C

Hunters. She was sure of it. Without their long, scoped rifles and camouflage clothing, they were hard to pick out. Nevertheless, those men monitored her closely and it gnawed at her sense of security. Abelia needed to make a getaway—the sooner, the better. In broad daylight, there was nowhere to shimmer without running the risk of someone seeing her. People filled the park, the sidewalks. Humans were everywhere. “You’re okay.” She gasped in surprise, and her gaze flew to his. As much as she’d like to believe this handsome male, she was definitely not all right.

Snippet A:

Brendon came to a halt and his whole body tensed as he stared further down the crowded corridor. “You were right about Gar showing up.” The entire time she’d known him, absolutely nothing seemed to faze her apartment-invading locust. She’d screamed and threatened him a thousand times, and at best, he would make her a cup of tea. At worst, he’d laugh at her. Yet today, the mere sight of his brother in the distance stressed him.

Snippet B:

Carrie turned and faced him. “Trent, I don’t want you to buy my clothes!” He smiled as if he thought her protest silly. “I don’t mind. I buy women things all the time, far more expensive than a dress.” “But I mind. My boss shouldn’t buy me clothes.” With a heavy sigh, he shrugged. “Okay, you can pay for it.” God! Why couldn’t she get through to him? “That’s my point. I probably can’t afford a hair comb in this shop.” He grimaced. “Yeah, avoid those. One of them costs almost as much as my car.”

Snippet C:

Upon settling down on the toilet, she noticed the floor to ceiling mirror facing her and screamed at the sight of the creature within in it. Short black hair spouted about its head, black circles surrounded both eyes and swirls of black flowed down the cheeks. Black lips stretched in horror as if in a nightmare. Pulling up her pants, she moved closer to the mirror. She was a ghoul, an honest to God ghoul!

Snippet A:

Sidarra breathed her well-known scent and relished her warm hands on his chest and her tongue in his mouth. Deep down something stirred, a hidden emotion, a wish to be fulfilled, a memory he cherished. He closed his eyes and saw Yisnia in the woods of Ethisan, lifting her dress to find her naked beneath. The desire she had woken in him those days and nights in his small hut lived in him, was part of the memory they shared.

Snippet B:

Kyra took a deep breath. Oliver was such a bad influence! She could imagine Julian too well without clothes. She wanted to perish the thought, but it returned in a loop. “Do you think that Mrs. Bickerham is at her binoculars right now?”

Oliver laughed. “You mean after the demonstration of my domination over Gregory she’ll wait for me to take down Julian?” He wiggled his brows. “Nah, that would be your show, not mine.”

“Not mine, either. Locking up Julian in the kennel, yeah, right. Forget it,” she warned when he turned to continue the daydream.

“But just think of it.”

Unable to stop him, she sighed. Only with a gag. Oh, hell, he might like that.

Snippet C:

She helped him out of his jacket and shirt. The sleeves were bloody.

Jazmin winced. “You were shot! Oh, my god!” She took his face in both hands. “Captain, this isn’t nothing. Come, sit down on the bed. Let me have a look at it.”

“Jaz, it’s all right. The medic already stitched me up. Nothing—”

“If you say nothing to worry about one more time, I’ll give you something to worry about.”

Ethan smiled. “Okay, do what you have to do.” She directed him to the bed and he lay down slowly. He was exhausted suddenly, and Jazmin’s warm hands were consoling. He melted on the warm covers and his eyes closed all by themselves.

Snippet A:

The most beautiful man in the world froze with his hand on the door. “Please don’t. This is a misunderstanding.” He blew out a long breath. “However, if that is what you want, I must advise you that Mayfair Electronics, 21 Dover Street, London, W1S 4LT will accept return of a flawed unit for a full refund.”

“Stop! You sound like a robot.” Her fisted hands struck the air.

He didn’t flinch. “I am a robot. That’s why this is an inane conversation.”

“Inane? I find you with another woman in the bedroom, and this conversation is silly? Oh, no, Christian. Did you invite her here?”

Snippet B:

From The Night Before Doomsday:    I groaned in the exquisite pain of desire. My mouth opened, taking her tongue inside, dominating the kiss. Desire was death, a living rigor mortis. As my feverish hands explored her body, she moaned and whispered. Thought sizzled to fog. Spellbound, I kissed her lips, her eyes, her cheeks. When I pressed my mouth to her velvet throat, she shivered in my embrace, and I was lost.

The walls of my house closed in on me. Folding Magdalene in a wing, I lifted her and took her into the garden. Here darkness and my wings would hide our sin.

Snippet C:

“Morgan, I really must go.” She hesitated. “John will be here in a few minutes.”

“John,” I spat. Indeed, the man was top of my hit list. “How is the pregnancy progressing?”

“I’m fine.” She sighed, but her hard tone softened somewhat. “Goodbye.”

Her voice trembled. Was she crying? My heart ached to think of her in tears.

“I love you,” I said. “And it isn’t goodbye.”

Raw Silk by Lisabet Sarai

Snippet A:

The elegance of my hotel room compensated to some extent for its modest size. Gold-fringed tiebacks held the brocade drapes on either side, revealing lace sheers. Outside the tall windows, a wrought iron balcony protruded over the narrow street. The bed was barely double width, but piled high with fluffy feather pillows. Art Deco curlicues of gleaming brass twined at the head and foot.

Before I’d met my Master, I would have admired the furnishings for the quality of the materials and the exceptional taste that had influenced their selection. Now all I saw were bondage possibilities—the headboard, the steel rings securing the tiebacks, even the balcony rails.

Snippet B:

“Having second thoughts, little one?” He flicked her earlobe with his tongue and sent electric currents streaking down to her sex. Although the gesture seemed playful, his tone was serious, without his characteristic mockery.

She turned her back to the dawn, seeking his eyes. “To be honest, yes.” The ache under her sternum made it hard to speak. “Last night, everything seemed so clear. This morning…”

“This morning you have doubts.” He combed his fingers through her curls, massaging her scalp. “Ah, pet! When I woke to find myself alone in our bed, I knew you’d been thinking too much.”

Snippet C:

The Domme’s face was gorgeously exotic, high cheekbones and a wide, crimson-painted mouth. One forgot all that beauty, though, when captured by the woman’s eyes. They were an icy emerald green. Like jade knives they penetrated her soul. She felt hopelessly weak and exposed, frightened and guilty. At the same time, they made her secret parts ache. She had a sudden urge to run to the woman, begging forgiveness, offering herself for punishment. Still, she remained transfixed, frozen in the Mistress’ gaze like a rabbit before a snake.

Finally, Mistress Clara nodded, as if satisfied. She gestured toward an empty table near the platform.

Author Interview with Kate Hill – PLUS – Fangs and Fists 1: Bolt

boltkatehillblogtour

Today’s guest is Kate Hill, with her new release and a fun interview…

Please tell us a little about yourself, where are you from? Where do you live now? Family? Pets?

My name is Kate Hill, but I also write as Saloni Quinby. I’m a vegetarian New Englander. My hobbies include reading (of course!), watching horror and action movies, working out and spending time with my family and pets. I have two dogs and two cats.

Where did you get the idea for FANGS AND FISTS 1: BOLT?

I wanted to write a series about werewolves and demons that is different than the Witches and Wolves/Witches and Demons series that I write under my Saloni Quinby pen name. I knew that I wanted the werewolves to be gladiators as well. Keeping these things in mind, I outlined the Fangs and Fists series.

Are there any tricks, habits or superstitions you have when creating a story?

When I’m writing a first draft, I like to listen to music. It helps me block out this world and step into the fictional world. When I’m working on edits, though, I prefer quiet.

Do you collect anything?

Books, comic books and movies (mostly horror and action).

What was your first job?

From the age of twelve to sixteen, I worked for my father. He was a painting contractor, so I swept a lot of floors and sanded a lot of walls!

Have you written any other books that are not published?

Yes! Many.

If you could spend time with a character from your book, whom would it be? And what would you do during that day? (PG-13 please 🙂 )

Blaze from my out of print Knights of the Ruby Order series. He’s hard to communicate with, but I’d like to talk to him.

What do your friends and family think of your writing?

My family and friends are incredibly supportive. I’ve been very lucky in that way.

What character in your book are you least likely to get along with?

Master Zigor from the Blood and Soul series. I’ve always called him my problem child. LOL!

How did your interest in writing originate?

For as long as can remember I’ve loved to read and tell stories. When I was a kid, reading was my favorite thing to do and I wanted to write stories of my own to entertain people.

Who is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you about their work?

Alexandre Dumas. His stories had everything–action, romance, great heroes and villains.

What is your favorite…

Movie – This one is too difficult to narrow down.

Music – I like mostly metal.

Place you’ve visited – The White Mountains

Place you’d like to visit – Hawaii

TV show from childhood – Scooby Doo

TV show from adulthood – This one is hard to narrow down, too.

Food – Peas

Sports team – I don’t like to watch team sports.

Which do you prefer: Board games/card games or television? Television.

Thank you so much, Kate. I enjoyed getting to know you. Now, Kate has a question for our readers…

What is your favorite supernatural creature?

Blurb

Kiara remembers what life was like living free–before she was taken by demons and bred to gladiators so that the new generations of wolves would retain their ferocity but forget their freedom. Mated to top gladiator Grit, she has a son with this surprisingly gentle lover who is also planning their escape. When Grit is killed in the arena, his close friend Bolt upholds his promise to protect Kiara and the cub.

Bolt and Kiara have loved each other from the moment they met, but they buried their feelings because she was mated to his best friend. When Grit dies, despite their guilt, Bolt and Kiara surrender to their desire for each other. Will their love be strong enough to help them win freedom from their evil masters?

Excerpt

“You haven’t even had time to grieve,” he said.

“Grit was a good man. I couldn’t have found a better friend here in this disgusting place, but we were thrown together. We didn’t choose each other. We decided to make something out of what we had.”

“And if you had a choice?” he whispered in a voice rough with emotion and so close to her that his breath tickled her ear.

“After what just happened, you have to ask? Haven’t you always known?”

“I want to hear it.” He grasped her upper arms and turned her to face him. His gaze burned into her. “I need to hear it, Kiara.”

“I would have chosen you, Bolt. For the times Grit and I actually mated, I would do so with you every night in my dreams.”

“Kiara.” He pulled her into a possessive embrace. Then he pulled back enough to hold her gaze again. “I’ve loved you for so long. Grit was my closest friend, but seeing you together gnawed at my heart. I didn’t want him to die, but I love you. I can’t help feeling it’s somehow wrong.”

“It’s not. I feel the same way.”

From the adjoining room came Jett’s voice.

“I have to check on him,” she said, wrapping the towel around her middle.

She left the room and Bolt followed, putting a towel around his waist.

They found the cub sitting in his crib, smiling.

“I know he’s not yours,” Kiara began, picking up Jett, but Bolt took him from her.

“Now he is,” Bolt said with as much feeling as when he’d confessed his love for her. Jett snug in his arms, he leaned closer to Kiara and whispered in her ear, “Grit told you of our escape plans.”

Snippet A:

His voice was low and full of everything that scared her about his kind, full of everything that drove her need and her body to a panting want that curled her toes. It made her mad enough to bite.

“You’ve got trouble and I’m the one you come to?” She folded her arms across her chest and looked him up and down with a sneer. “From your reaction, I guess I came to the right place.”

“And you can go straight back out the door you came in too.”

“Not until we talk.” She cocked her chin up.

Snippet B:

As his hand slid over her shoulder, his fingers nudged her dress down, letting the fabric glide to the top of her dress, though careful not to expose her. He leaned in close, and for a moment she thought he might kiss her. Then his fingers dipped below her bodice to caress her breast and her breath caught in her throat. She could not find words to protest, couldn’t make her mouth move to tell him to stop. He removed his fingers and she sighed.

Snippet C:

“So now you propose that I strip my clothes off and let you have at me with all the skill your people devote to

such things?”

He paused to stare at her. Something twinkled in his eyes that was part lust and part amusement. “And is that what you think I want to do with you, have at you?”

She folded her arms across her chest. “Of course. That’s the reason we’re in this godforsaken place, so that you can get your hands on me and dazzle me with the supposed skill you have in luring women into your bed.”

Lily and the Gambler by Linda McLaughlin

Snippet A:

Cupping her chin, he stared at her, his eyes full of half promises. “Oh, hell, I may get my face slapped for this, but…” His hand moved to the back of her neck as he lowered his head and captured her lips in a kiss that stole her breath away.

For a moment, she closed her eyes and gave herself up to the kiss. Then a door slammed somewhere in the house, reminding her of where they were. She pushed him away. “How dare you?”

He gave her a lazy grin. “What’s that old saying? Nothing ventured, nothing gained?”

Snippet B:

A laugh burbled up from her throat and her cheeks warmed at the reminder of his kiss. She hadn’t expected such a romantic gesture from him. It wasn’t as if he were born a gentleman. Perhaps she needed to change her assumptions. She’d expected boorishness from him simply because of his birth, not taking into account that he’d been educated in the same schools as her brother. She’d best start thinking of her prospective bridegroom as a social equal.

Lud, was she such a snob?

Snippet C:

Scant minutes later, Mr. Chaplin led her outside to a closed traveling carriage standing in the inn yard. He must be a gentleman of some means, she mused, to have his own carriage. He supervised the loading of their luggage then held out his hand to help her into the carriage. As she stepped up, the wind caught her veil and blew it upwards. For a second she had a clear glimpse of his startled face.

He had seen the bruise.

Snippet A:

“Enrique, this is Skylar.”

A man behind the counter got to his feet. Not the same sandy blond from the day before. This guy had dark hair, darker eyes. His yesterday-morning shadow was split by a brilliant smile that probably got him whatever he wanted whenever he wanted it. Gorgeous.

Suddenly the smile fell away and his golden-brown face darkened like the sky in a sudden summer storm. Skylar’s steps faltered at the onslaught of black emotion that emanated from this man. She blinked, filled her lungs, struggling to make sense of it. A set-up gone south?

Enrique said nothing.

Snippet B:

Patrick crouched behind Lacy in the open cargo area behind the driver’s seat. The muzzle of his gun jabbed the nape of her neck. She followed his commands until she neared the end of Center Street. They were headed out of town. Her gut told her not to go. But her gut didn’t have a solution for the weapon aimed at her brain stem. On the other hand, if she did as he said, she would end up dead. Or worse.

As Lacy ferried herself closer to that fate, fear somehow gave way to reason. Why wait? And why give Patrick the reins?

Snippet C:

“Hello.” Tara wanted to say more but her brain shorted out. This guy was not from Pine View. He looked like he’d stepped out of a magazine. Rugged and clean-cut at the same time. His wavy blond hair was longer than most businessmen wore theirs, but his jeans and button-down shirt weren’t the kind a laborer could afford. They looked as though they’d been tailored to fit. His sleek leather jacket probably cost more than she made in three months. Must be a tourist who took the wrong exit.

He flashed a slightly crooked smile that made her breath catch.

Snippet A:

‘I think Paul’s in love with you.’
‘What?’ Kate sat up straight, her disbelief ringing round the room. ‘Are you crazy? In love! He’s so damn polite and stiff. In fact, he’s so bloody polite it’s intimidating. You’ve got it way, way wrong.’ She shook her head vehemently, staring at Orla. Her friend was normally so astute about people.
‘I’ll leave you to read it.’ Orla stood. ‘Tell me then if I’m wrong.’ .

Snippet B:

I arranged myself on his warm shirt, legs bent, hugging my knees. Léon stretched his sun-browned legs in front of him and leaned back against the cliff. His warm skin smelled of the sea. Although he’d barely spoken, I had the impression still that he was filled with a pent-up joy. I, too, was bursting with rapture. The shining sea, the warmth, and above all, Léon beside me made it almost impossible to organise my thoughts. I tried to calm the fluttering starlings, keeping my gaze away from his warm, damp limbs and resolutely on the waves.

Snippet C:

‘You know you can stay.’
She thought she detected a tremor in his voice. She lifted her head swiftly to find his eyes steady on hers. The light had been falling gradually, dusk seeping slowly through the kitchen window. The flickering candles gave Jean-Luc’s face a sepia glow that lit Sophie from within with a sudden rush of warmth. Filled with wild longing, she leaned forward. Jean-Luc reached across the table to take her face in both his hands, trapping it there.
‘Stay with me.’

Immortal Savior by J.G. Sauer

Snippet A:

God, she couldn’t breathe. Exhaustion threatened to drop her in her tracks, her lungs burned with it. Perspiration ran down her face in rivulets, mixing with mascara and stinging her eyes. But she didn’t stop running, couldn’t afford to slow her pace for one instant.
The tall, thin, smartly dressed woman darted up the deserted backstreet; her stunning Jimmy Choo’s tapping out a wild tattoo on the cement as she raced along. She took time only to send a frantic glance over her shoulder through the darkness every few seconds. Yes, she knew better than to stop moving.

Snippet B:

Their eyes met, and she strolled toward him slowly, taking her time and gauging his mood. She stepped right up into his personal space and paused for a full ten seconds, drawing out the tension that was beginning to simmer. “Do you know what I’d really like right now, Evan?”
She ran her tongue around her lips—which grabbed his undivided attention—and smiled inwardly.
He adopted a casual stance, but continued to stare at her lips. “Not a clue what you want. Enlighten me.”
Liar, she thought. Surprise dawned briefly on his face when she leaned in closer and whispered, “My car keys.”

Snippet C:

Eyeballing the shirt she was wearing—his shirt—that ended well above her knees, he ran his tongue over his teeth. Raising his eyes, their gazes met. The look he gave her had her pulse picking up speed.
“Nice shirt,” he said, strolling toward her. When he reached her, he lifted her chin with a finger and settled his lips on hers. “What do you have on underneath it,” he murmured against her lips as his other hand began to gather the shirt material against her leg.
“Not a thing,” she replied, melting into him and returning his kiss.

Book 3:

The Captain and the Cheerleader by Elaine Cantrell

Find Elaine Here:  http://www.elainecantrell.com/

Snippet A:

Susan finished her soft drink and tossed the can into a nearby recycling bin. “I could make Kurt ask me out if I wanted to.”
“Yeah? Prove it. Get him to ask you out. I’ll bet you fifty dollars you can’t do it,” Robin taunted. “All he’s interested in is football.”
Melissa Taylor, Susan’s best friend, cleared her throat. “How long would she have to get the date?”
“Two weeks ought to be enough for an old pro like Susan.” Robin snickered as her gaze swept around the lounge. “Would the rest of you like to get a piece of the action?”

Snippet B:

Scooping up a handful of pebbles, she made her way down the wall. The last pebble didn’t drop where she wanted, so she stooped down to pick it up. Something promptly bit her. Bit her and latched on to her ankle and refused to let go. Snake!
Shrieking, she ran toward the front yard. Oh, thank goodness! Cade was in the front yard. “Snake,” she screamed. “It’s eating me alive.”
Cade’s face blurred as she streaked past him. “Aimee!” he yelled.
The snake bit harder. Aimee howled and ran faster, making circles in the yard. This time Cade tried to grab her as she rushed past him. “Help me!” Aimee screeched.
Cade took off after her, but Aimee put on an extra burst of speed when the snake bit her again. He finally brought her down not far from where they’d tied the horses. It scared Princess, who jerked her reins free and galloped away.
“Snake,” Aimee panted. “Get it off.”
Cade rolled onto his back and laughed. And laughed and laughed. “It’s a briar, not a snake.”

Snippet C:

She wasn’t alone in the bedroom. She saw a shadowy
figure silhouetted against the drapes, and Julianna supposed he must have made a noise that wakened her.
She broke into a cold sweat. Should she scream or pretend to be asleep? She quickly made her decision as the figure approached the bed. “Buck, help me,” she screamed.
She had hoped that the noise would frighten the attacker away, but instead he crossed the room in two big strides and grabbed her. Julianna struggled mightily, but the bedcovers hampered her, and the intruder was a strong man.

Snippet A:

His tone was friendly, but I wasn’t fooled. His interest was business. I wondered if he had more questions or was just trying to get a read on me, see if I’d lied about Josie. I hadn’t. But I was probably going to. I couldn’t let the cops at her now. She was too fragile.

Even knowing his interest wasn’t personal, I was self-conscious about my appearance. I wore a sweatshirt and Royals’ cap, no make-up. My mother hated it when I “dressed like a vagabond,” so I did so more often than not when I knew I’d see her. Now that I’d run into Brody, my plan to annoy my mother had back-fired.

Snippet B:

Slivers of moonlight filtered through the leaves of the oak trees above Emily’s head. Thick fog floated on the ground, leaving only the tops of the phony headstones they’d set up showing. The fog was phony too, but it looked so real, the effect was downright spooky—as was standing in the woods with Michael Myers. Even though she knew Caster was beneath the mask, a little quiver of fear raced over her skin. She gave a breathless laugh. “Okay, let’s do this.”

“I’m ready,” he said, his voice muffled beneath the mask.

She turned her back to him, and he slipped an arm around her waist.

Snippet C:

I wasn’t aware I’d made a conscious decision, but I found myself parking the golf cart at the edge of the woods, at the mouth of the trail that led to the carriage house. What was there that Declan didn’t want me to see? I felt a little guilty, but I pushed it away. If he had something valuable, it wasn’t like I was going to steal it. And if he was hiding something criminal, the authorities had a right to know.

As before, I tried both doors. As before, neither of them opened. I checked all the windows, this time using the flashlight on my cell to try to penetrate the interior gloom. Nothing. Definitely something covering the windows.

Snippet A:

He put his pen down and sat back, his casual manner indicating he wasn’t in any hurry. A glint of humor lit his eyes. An easy smile lifted the corners of his mouth. The thrill of his obvious interest in her buoyed her spirits. Her smile broadened, it was the polite thing to do, although polite never entered her mind.

Snippet B:

“We’ll rest when we get to the other side.” He turned to Laura on her palfrey. “You’ll ride across with me.”

Laura gave him a cold stare. “I assure you, I can handle my horse crossing a river.”

“I’m sure you can. However, it’s all about size,” he smirked.

She tilted her head and sucked in a quick breath at the double meaning of his words.

“My horse,” he said in a husky voice. “Where is your mind, m’lady? He stands several hands higher than yours.” He straightened in his saddle. A flash of heat ran up her neck.

Snippet C:

He caught her around her waist and brought her face to his. How he adored the passion in her violet eyes. They asked for more. He answered with a searing kiss and teased her mouth open with his tongue. She didn’t protest. Instead she moved closer molding her body into his, fitting like a key in a lock. Encouraged, his tongue swept her mouth and he reveled at the sweet taste. When he released her she stood in the crook of his arm, her head on his chest. His cheek rested on her hair. Quiet and content, he savored the last few moments while the sun rose over the edge of the hill.

Book 3:

Title: A Taste of Tragedy

Find Kim Here:  http://KimMcMahill.blogspot.com

51bvhihu5tl-_sy346_

Snippet A:

Devyn scrambled out of the gully and cut across the raised ground above the bend in the creek. Inching out toward the edge, she peered over and spotted her target. His back was to her. She had a clean shot, but this time she was determined to get answers and dead men couldn’t talk.

Snippet B:

Grace Talbot gripped the steering wheel of her white four-wheel-drive truck. Every muscle in her body tensed as she leaned closer to the windshield, straining her eyes, searching the blowing snow for the reflector poles, which lined the road, or for any tire track, which would indicate someone else had driven through recently.

Traveling the remote rural Wyoming road in a blizzard was risky, and she would have avoided such a stupid act if her Uncle Moss wasn’t in the hospital fighting for his life  and Butch, his only hired ranch hand, wasn’t dead.

Snippet C:

“Try to get some sleep. We can’t afford to have a sniper with the shakes. I’ll wake you in a few hours and then I’ll get some rest.” Deuce wrapped his arms around her tighter and rested his chin on her shoulder, his cheek brushing hers, wondering how many times he could hold her this close without taking more.

Snippet A:

The low rumble of galloping horse hooves reached his ears. The sheriff caught a quick movement and watched as the westbound stagecoach came into view past the blacksmith shop. He stilled. The four-horse team ran wild, tossing their heads and kicking up dust clouds. The coach zigzagged down the center of town, the groan of leather harnesses and the creak of wheels getting louder.

Hell. Instinct pushed him to action. Quinn sprinted to the middle of Main Street and unholstered his gun. Waiting until the horses were close, he aimed his gun over the roof of the jail and fired.

Snippet B:

The wide smile and bright flash that lit her eyes gave her face a gamine look. One that hit him square in the chest. Needing to pull his attention from the surprise of that reaction, Kell glanced to where she pointed and made note of the sign proclaiming Othmann Dry Goods-Hardware-Meat. “I aim to walk my horse over. Do you need help with the buggy?”

“No, but thank ye. I’m quite able to handle this small conveyance. On me family’s dairy farm during me growing years, I handled draft horses pulling heavy wagons.”

Snippet C:

Turning from the window, she tucked the duster into its space on a low shelf and spun away, walking on tiptoes before dropping her boots flat. Could she do a back bend in this dress? Bracing apart her legs, she raised her hands over her head, arched her spine, and then leaned backward. Her muscles protested against the unaccustomed strain, forcing her upright again. Oh, phooey. She was too out of shape to do this simple acrobatic move.

What is there to do?

Snippet A:

I caught a whiff of his cologne. Polo Red. It didn’t seem right for Santa to smell sexy. I wondered if he had really been dumped on Valentine’s Day and who he was and what he looked like beneath the costume.

Yet another part of me liked that he was Santa. For now, I wanted him to be Santa. Ever since Adam had broken my heart, I had been cautious when it came to men. I had dated a couple of guys but I had kept my distance. I glanced at Santa. I felt safe with Santa. What girl wouldn’t?

Snippet B:

He bristled. “How much do you know about babies?”

“I’m clueless when it comes to babies. I don’t know anything about them.” She dipped a chip in the cheese before she lifted her gaze to his face. “But I do know a baby should have a mother and father if at all possible.”

His blue eyes narrowed. “I suppose that should be you and Dallas Peyton.”

Oh, shit, he’s Googled me. She took a moment to eat the chip. “No.” She dabbed her mouth with the napkin. “Not me and Dallas.” There was no her and Dallas, but that was a well-guarded secret.

Snippet C:

She was fine, and he was available. So there you go.

“I’ve heard we’re going to have great weather this weekend,” he said, throwing some bait her way. He tapped the elevator handrail. For the first time ever, he wished the elevator would move a little slower.

She batted those baby blues at him. “There’s a storm coming.”

A storm? He had watched the weather report on TV before he left his house. Sunny autumn weekend, high in the seventies, no rain. “I don’t think so.”

“Oh, I’m fairly certain of it,” she insisted, lowering her lashes.

Snippet A

She leaned forward and ran her fingers over the grainy photograph. With that one image, everything seemed to fall into place. This was the clue. It had to be.

She fumbled in her desk drawer for a magnifying glass and studied the symbols in the photo more closely. At a glance, they looked like your standard Indian petroglyphs. You could find them throughout the Southwest, tucked away in caves or scattered among boulder fields.

 But this was different.

If she was right—and she had to be right—these symbols were a map.

Snippet B:

The house creaked again, followed by a rhythmic sound – like footsteps. Jenny jerked upright, her ears straining. Had she heard a voice?

She shook her head. She must still be half asleep, dreaming. Imagining her grandparents were still here. Wishful thinking.

Downstairs, a door closed. Jenny clutched the blanket. Imagination be damned. She was not alone.

For a long moment, she sat frozen. During her ten years in New York City, she had never been burglarized or mugged. It seemed impossible that such a thing should happen now, here, in an off-season art camp five miles outside of Jemez Springs, New Mexico.

Snippet C:

I tried to focus on this one moment, the physical sensations of my aching body as I lay on the hard, damp ground. The cold against my bare calves, the lump of rock pressing into my shoulder. That focus helped keep me grounded in the present. Never mind that this present wasn’t a place I wanted to be. I had to deal with reality. But I didn’t have to also deal with nightmares. Not now.

New Release: Unimaginable Lover by Rosalie Redd

Today’s guest, Rosalie Redd has a very special interview for us…

Want to meet Tanen, the hero of Unimaginable Lover, book 3 in the Warriors of Lemuria series? I sat down with him for a brief interview…

Did you turn out the way your parents predicted?

Tanen adjusts himself in the chair and straightens the collar on his shirt. His brow furrows. “Much to my chagrin, no. My father was a warrior. I was a disappointment to him.”

I squirm in my seat. I am uncomfortable in the presence of this large male. “Why is that?”

He crosses his arms, his biceps bulging tight against his shirt sleeves. “Because I didn’t follow in his footsteps. Instead, I chose to pursue knowledge and my love of the ancient scriptures.”

What is your most treasured possession?

Tanen traces his finger along the pin that graces his collar. The silver metal, in the shape of the letter M, reflects the overhead lights with an unearthly glint. “My pin. It signifies my status as council leader and represents Lemuria and life ever after.”

I stroke my fingers over the keyboard as I record his comments. The sound echoes around the large chamber, and a cool breeze runs over my shoulder. Goosebumps form.

He leans back in his chair and touches one of the sunstones lining the cave walls. The gem flares, brightening the room and the air warms. “Is that better? The crystals will take away the chill.”

“Thank you, Tanen.”

What do you value most?

He studies me for a moment before answering, his gaze flicking over my features. “King Noeh’s respect. I will do whatever he asks to help win this war against our enemy, the Gossum, and for our goddess, Alora.”

I can’t help but smile at his sincerity.

What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?

The muscles in his arms visibly tense. His gaze tracks to my necklace, and he cracks his knuckles. “I’d rather not say.”

My unease is once again forefront in my mind. The chair is suddenly rock-hard beneath my bottom and no amount of heat in the room will take away the chill running down my spine.

What is the trait you most deplore in others?

The smile returns to his face. His blue eyes swirl with gold flecks, mixing together in a beautiful dance.

Despite my nervousness, I’m mesmerized.

He winks. “Ignorance.”

When he didn’t elaborate further, I clear my throat. “Time to move on.”

What scares you?

He places his arms on his thighs and leans forward. “Failing my king.”

I wouldn’t want to face this warrior in a dark alley.

What happens after you die?

A slow smile curls his lips, twinkling the blue in his eyes once again. “When a warrior dies his soul returns to Lemuria, back to the character board to fight again in another war on another planet.”

“Thank you, Tanen, for the interview.”

He places his hand over mine and gives it a gentle squeeze. “You’re welcome, Rosalie.”

Thank you, Rosalie and Tanen. I enjoyed getting to know you. Now, pelase tell us about your story…

Blurb:

A shifter and a human together? Unimaginable…

One careless decision. The colony betrayed. Tanen’s only course is a desperate hunt for justice, but his solo mission is cut short when he’s mortally wounded during a fight. Rescued by a sweet, innocent female who nurses him back to health, he can’t deny the passion that burns between them. Now he must choose between his duty and honor or his desire for the precious, but forbidden, human female.

Broken promises and ruined love hardened Sheri’s heart. When she finds an injured and extraordinarily sexy man on her property, she’s pulled into a world she never imagined. As she nurses him back to health and they bond over their love of books, she’s torn between the lessons she learned from her rough past and the need to seek solace in Tanen’s arms, but she must learn to trust him, and herself, in order to survive.

Excerpt:

Sheri’s pulse raced as a strange mixture of shock and desire coursed through her veins. The tall, muscular stranger pinned her against the wall. One second she’d pressed 9-1—on her phone and the next, she was here, in his arms.

His biceps bulged, and she had a sudden urge to run her fingers over them, feel the steel that was below the surface, but her hands were trapped at his hips. She gripped his taut waist, and his heat bore into her, warming her fingers, tingling the sensitive nerves. Although caged in his embrace, he was gentle with her, holding back the strength that ebbed from him in waves. As he leaned in, his breath cascaded over her shoulder, warm and enticing.

“No infirmary.” His gravelly, rough command came out on a whisper.

She should’ve feared him, this stranger in her home trapping her in his arms, but instead, her insides melted, warmed by his touch, his voice, his scent. Something about him made her long for more.

So focused on the man who held her so close, she hadn’t noticed Coop. His insistent barks echoed through the house.

The man tensed, and in the process his lean body pressed tighter against hers. Her skin prickled at the contact.

With a quick glance over his shoulder, she caught sight of her pet. He growled, his lips curled over his fangs.

“No, Coop. Stop!”

His back legs bunched in preparation for his attack.

The man didn’t release her, but turned to face her dog. He held out one hand, palm open. “Halt.”

Coop’s growl faded.

He took a tentative step forward.

His nose quivered, and a small whimper eased from his chest. Her pet, an ex-police dog trained to track and defend, placed his muzzle under the stranger’s palm.

She gasped. If she hadn’t seen this for herself, she wouldn’t have believed it. He patted Coop on the head, and the dog’s tail beat against the floor.

The man’s eyes were red-rimmed, and sweat coated his forehead. “I have to leave…”

His eyes glazed over, and his grip around her waist loosened.

As her hands traveled along the space between them, her fingers trailed over the firm muscles of his abdomen and chest. The strength and power under his skin lit up her nerves. She moved a stray hair away from his brow and focused on his eyes. Bottomless pools of blue, they reflected the pain hidden behind his features.

Her chest constricted. “Please, let me help you.”

His gaze fell to her mouth, and he reached up to stroke her bottom lip with his thumb, teasing her. “How? Like this?”

Before she could stop him, he slipped his hand around the base of her neck and pulled her close. His mouth hovered over hers for the briefest moment. She closed her eyes, aware that doing so was an invitation all its own. Warm and welcoming, his lips tasted of musk and pepper. With unexpected tenderness, he teased her with his tongue, caressing the crease between her lips. The sensitive nerves tingled at the contact and she inhaled, parting her mouth.

Moaning softly, he deepened the kiss, and explored her. His tongue brushed the sore spot in her mouth, but instead of pain, his smooth caress eased some of the ache. The passionate need in his kiss bore into her, sending a wave of desire to her core. Beneath the thin material of her shirt, her nipples peaked, and she couldn’t hide her reaction to him. A slow groan rumbled in his chest.
