Author Josie Rivera on Romany Culture ~ New Release: Seeking Patience Plus a Giveaway!

Please help me welcome today’s guest, Josie Riviera…

RivieraJosieSM-Ad1(1)

Exploring the fascinating culture of the Romany. (Gypsies)

Gadje Gadjensa, Rom Romensa.”

This is a Romany (Gypsy) saying that means “Gadje with Gadje, Rom with Rom.”

So what is a gadje? A gadje in the Romany language means “not one of us.” Many Rom prefer to not allow outsiders (us) into their lives. It’s no coincidence that in my hours, days, and months of researching the Romany for Seeking Patience, little information was available. Odd, because the Rom have lived in many places throughout the world for centuries. They’re a widely-traveled people. Yet there is little written history regarding their origins, although recent evidence points to an emigration from India 1500 years ago.

I believe the reason there is little information available is because the Rom simply prefer it that way. They are a proud people who keep to themselves. And they are nomads, forever on the move, traveling by horse and wagon in caravans.

It is no secret that the Rom have suffered persecution, prejudice, exclusion, and discrimination for centuries. The “Gypsy” stereotype includes a criminal, fortune-teller, blacksmith, thief, and musician, a dark-complexioned, shadowy figure. But why do so many of us harbor this unfair prejudice? Perhaps because of the Rom’s nomadic existence, lack of a solid religious belief, and exotic clothes and lifestyle. Their dialect is distinct and related to Sanskrit. Their tradition is oral, for they didn’t have the luxury of building libraries.

One belief shared by all Rom is cleanliness. Mahrime means unclean or polluted. To avoid mahrime, clothes covering the top half of their body are washed separately from clothes on the bottom. Certain parts of the female body are considered unclean, and doctors are sometimes avoided because they deal with illness. And, a Rom can become polluted by being too close to a gadje.

Seeking Patience explores prejudices and how the English viewed the Romany (Gypsies,) in Regency England,

Do you think men or women are more likely to be prejudiced?

Elaine Cantrell ~ “Why I Write Romance Novels” Plus ~ The Captain and the Cheerleader

Please help me welcome today’s guest, Elaine Cantrell:

Why I Write Romance Novels

Writing is so much fun.  If you’re thinking of writing a book, one of the first things you’ll need to do is pick a genre.  I picked romance.  Out of all the genres out there, why did I pick romance?  Plenty of people write romance so there’s a lot of competition out there.

Well, I picked it for several reasons.   First of all, I think most folks are fighting some kind of battle in their lives.  Maybe they’re in a relationship that went bad, and they’ve lost the one they love.  Whether it was by divorce, death, or just walking away, it tears a huge hole in someone’s heart.  Maybe the battle is health-related.  It’s hard to accept limitations if they interfere with activities you love.  Have you ever dealt with unemployment?  How do you feed your children with no paycheck?  My romances always have a happy ending which gives us hope that tomorrow things will be better.  We can believe that ‘this too shall pass.’

Remember what happened at the end of Gone With the Wind?  Scarlett lost Rhett and collapsed in tears, but then she decided to go home to Tara where she can think of a way to get Rhett back.  Human beings are designed to hope.

I also think that romance novels possibly satisfy our craving for justice.  In the real world, things don’t always end happily.  Children are abused, the missing teen is never found, or we get our heart broken.  In the vast majority of romance novels you know the bad guys are going to get what’s coming to them.  My heroes and heroines sometimes face determined villains, but you can rest easy in the knowledge that the bad guys will never win.

Last, I write romance because I’m a romantic at heart.  I just adore a good love story. In my latest release The Captain and the Cheerleader my characters have many obstacles to overcome before they find true love. Their romance didn’t start off like you might expect, but don’t worry. Both my hero and heroine are made of good stuff.

Readers, what about you?  Why do you read romance?  Leave a comment and tell me what you think.

** GIVEAWAY: Readers should leave a comment for a chance to win a copy of The Captain and the Cheerleader. The question they have to answer is “Why do you read romance.”

Book Blurb:

Susan English can’t stand Robin Lanford! She’s so full of herself she irritates everyone on the faculty of Fairfield High. When Robin bets Susan fifty dollars that she can’t get a date with Kurt Deveraux, the head football coach, Susan jumps at the chance to put the little heifer in her place. She had no idea that teaching Robin a lesson would irrevocably change her life, strain treasured friendships, and throw two families into chaos.

Excerpt:

She looked at him with a sexy little smile curving her lips. “I like your kisses.”

“What do you like about them?”

She pretended to think about it. “The shape of your mouth is pleasing, for one thing.”

“Is that all?”

She shook her head. “No, I like the way your lips feel.”

Her hand had somehow come to rest on the table and was well within his reach so he took it. “How do they feel?”

“Well, they’re firm, but soft too, and they’re just the right size.”

“Is my technique any good?”

She glanced at him from under lowered lashes and seemed to promise all manner of delights. “On a scale of one to ten I’d give you a ten.”

“How does it make you feel when I kiss you?”

Heat flared in her eyes and caused him to tighten his hold on her hand.

“When you kiss me,” she said, “it gives me an empty, longing feeling down deep inside, and I know the only cure for the emptiness is more kisses.”

Kurt took a deep, steadying breath. “Do you want more than just a kiss from me? I know other ways to make the emptiness go away.”

GHOST IN THE RAIN ~ A World of Gothic: Scotland by Marie Treanor

I am very, very excited to introduce today’s guest and share her new release. Several months ago, I decided to put together a group of authors from various countries to collaborate on a novella series, with each story set in a different country. I love gothic mystery romances, so I decided that would be a fun genre for our series. I put out a few feelers, and Marie was one of the authors who came on board. Marie is the launch author for our series of stand-alone novellas. Her story, Ghost in the Rain, released today, and it is awesome!!! And, guess what? It’s on sale for only 99 cents!

Welcome, Marie…

Tell us a fun fact about you:

When I first met my husband, he told me he played in a band and was going to be a rock star. It was Halloween. 🙂

What did you like about writing as a group effort?

I really liked the way ideas bounced around – how one author’s suggestion would set me thinking and spark another notion. Besides which, writing is a very solitary profession and it’s a lovely change to be part of a project that still lets you follow your own story.

What was the most difficult part of writing as a group effort?

To be honest, I don’t think I found any of it very difficult! I suppose I was very aware that if my story didn’t work, I would be letting the whole group down. I couldn’t just slide the manuscript under the bed and forget about it. So I worried that it wasn’t right for the series. But then again, the nice thing about a group effort is that other authors are there to give their opinion, and I was very glad this group’s was favourable!

Thank you for joining me today, Marie. It has been a pleasure getting to know you and working with you on our series!

Marie is giving away a FREE copy of Ghost in the Rain to once lucky commenter…a name will be drawn on Sunday.

(Isn’t this cover gorgeous?)

A haunted Highland house, battered by storms and murder…

Notorious rocker Dan Stewart isn’t anything like Dr. Kate Yorke imagined. Arriving at his remote home in the Scottish Highlands to research some valuable letters – only to discover he’s forgotten their appointment – Kate soaks up the Gothic atmosphere of Invershiel House. But it’s the owner who truly fascinates her.

Reclusive and abrupt, Dan is haunted by the deaths of his fellow band members, especially his one time lover Islay Lamont, whose shade seems to flit around the grounds in the rain. But the ghost is not the only mystery Kate encounters. Light bulbs disappear around her – and only Dan knows she’s scared of the dark. Then she trips over a dead body which inexplicably vanishes.

It becomes a race against time to find the identity of the body and the killer. And to discover if she and Danny have any kind of future together. Or even at all…

Excerpt:

I had to acknowledge that my peace was churned up by his unexpected presence here. It wasn’t even an unpleasant feeling; in fact it felt rather…exciting. But it was disturbing.

I took off my glasses and rubbed my eyes. I suspected Dan Stewart carried such disturbance wherever he went. If I thought about it, the whole house felt different now. As if its peace had gone too; as if it had sprung to life, eager, waiting.

Mocking my own silly fantasy, I stood abruptly and paced around the room, trying to recover my lost concentration. I suspected I was just tired and would work much faster and much better after a good night’s sleep.

I paused by the window to watch the storm. Although the thunder had stopped, the wind and rain were still blasting the trees and rattling the window. Close-up, I could feel the draught through my thick sweater. On impulse, I retrieved my phone from my bag and tried to capture the raging storm on its camera. But it looked too tame on the screen, not deep or dark enough, no real movement in those black clouds still scudding and swirling across the sky. I wished I could paint. For a moment, I even wished I could be part of it, to go outside in it again. There was nothing to stop me, except common sense.

I smiled to myself and lowered the phone, just as a movement in the garden below caught my eye. Someone was out in this. Someone not remotely dressed for it either. Through the darkness and the almost opaque mist of rain, I could make out only that it seemed to be a woman wearing only some kind of floating, white, wispy garment, more like the loungewear of wealthy women of past centuries than anything anyone would wear today for any purpose. The odd garment shimmered as the figure glided across the lawn, impossibly graceful.

On impulse, I raised my phone again and snapped.

Perhaps she moved too quickly. Nothing of her showed on the screen except an indistinct blur of light against blackness. Frowning, I looked again out of the window, but the woman had gone. Vanished.

Blurb:

Believing he is cursed, Tristram, Lord Trevena, the Earl of Longstone, agrees to do just one favor for a friend, to dance with the man’s sister, but the beautiful and headstrong Isabel Albryght will settle for no less than claiming his lonely heart.

A PROPHECY FORETOLD

Raised by her doting older brother, Isabel Albryght grew up cosseted and protected. She enjoyed her life in the country, her books, and her freedom. Then her brother married. Within months Isabel’s best friend married. It seemed it was time for Isabel to marry, too. Socially awkward and a bit too keen for most of the ton, Isabel proceeded to have the most horrible season on record…until she was approached by Tristram, the Earl of Longstone.

Two dances. That was all Tristram could offer anyone when considering his family curse, which had taken all he loved in the last ten years, so his promise to the beautiful Miss Albryght’s brother was simply that. The ton would soon see she was a desirable partner, her awkwardness would fade and other young swains would beat feet to her doorstep. But then he held her in his arms, and the delightful Isabel became his beating heart. Headstrong and full of passion, she believed she might waltz them away from Death. She alone could tempt him to try.

Excerpt:

The temperature in the room rose by several degrees—it was positively sweltering. Isabel did not know how much longer she could tolerate standing in the midst of hell, surrounded by a mixture of unidentifiable odors and loud boisterous laughter. She thought her head would explode.

Closing her tired eyes, she brought her gloved hand to her temple. Isabel could feel her body sway, but was unable to stop the motion. She could not even gather her wits about her to stamp down, or even beg, the feelings to cooperate. Isabel could sense another mishap was forthcoming, which further added to her distress. And she had been doing so well.

A gentle hand came to her elbow. “Allow me to accompany you onto the balcony for some fresh air, Miss Albryght.” Lord Trevena’s voice broke through the haze. His tone was soft and full of concern.

Isabel opened her eyes; they felt thick and heavy, and still out of focus. Tristram somehow managed to maneuver her through the crush without bumping into anyone. The moment they reached the unoccupied balcony, the cool evening breeze cleared the haziness Isabel had been fighting in her head.

They strolled to the edge of the balcony, partly hidden within the shadows, and clear of any curious gossipmongers. The garden beyond was concealed in darkness, but the lingering scent of blooming roses wafted through the air. Tristram released his gentle hold on her arm. The absence of his hand made her heart lurch, wanting more.

Isabel turned to face him. Even in the dim light, his clear blue eyes sparkled like stars in the night. She struggled to find the words, but when they finally came, they would not stop.

“Thank you for coming to my aid. I am quite recovered now. The room was quite warm and the noise…”

“Isabel,” Tristram said in a deep husky tone. Her name on his lips sent a jolt of excitement through her body.

Taking a step closer, he brought his hand to her face, his gloved thumb dancing intimately across her cheek. Her heart pounded against her ribs, practically stealing her breath.

“Lord Trevena.” His name exited her lips in a breathy gasp.

He bent his head and whispered his name across her cheek. “Tristram.”

Isabel could not imagine anything more sensual than this moment. She lifted her chin, and their cheeks brushed. His lips were so close, but still too far away. His warm breath teased her senses. Closing her eyes, she waited for his kiss.

Ten Moments That Changed My Life by Marlow Kelly + New Release: A Woman of Courage **GIVEAWAY

10 moments new_MTE1MTUwNTQ0MTg

  1. When I was four years old I woke up in hospital, scared and alone. It was the start of six years of childhood illness where I was in and out of hospital and spent most of my time at home, away from other children. I recovered by age ten and have led a normal healthy life since. And although it may seem sad, this was when my imagination bloomed and I began making up stories to entertain myself.
  1. As a teenager I spent summers with my cousins in Ireland. Being away from my parents and sisters in a different culture (Yes the Irish culture is different from the English culture) gave me a new perspective on the world and my ability to be independent in it.
  1. Got a job at British Airways. This was a turning point for me. The selection process was long, difficult, and included; three interviews, a two and a half hour intelligence test, and a role-play scenario. Being selected was a huge ego boost. Getting that job changed me from a small, mousy, timid person into a strong, confident woman.
  1. Travelled the world. That sounds more impressive than it actually is. I have travelled – probably more than most, but less than many. For a young person travelling can be a true eye-opener. I came to realize that the social expectations that ruled my life in England didn’t apply to the rest of the world.
  1. Moved to Canada. When I was twenty-six I moved to Canada. It may surprise you to know that the Canadians didn’t want me; mainly because my work as a check-in agent at British Airways was not a skill they needed, so I became a nanny. Apparently they always need nannies. After two years working as a domestic servant I was allowed to stay in Canada and am now a Canadian citizen.
  1. When I was twenty-eight I was involved in a car accident. The other car ran a stop sign. I broke bones in my pelvis, shoulder and jaw. It was a painful experience that made me aware of how our minds and bodies work in unison. It also had an effect on my story telling. By the end of the book I normally injure at least one of my main characters. No one escapes my stories unscathed.
  1. Met my husband. After years of working indoors, as a nanny, I decided I needed to be outside for a while so I took a job as a courier driver in Vancouver. I was twenty-nine and had decided that marriage and children weren’t for me. Then low and behold I met my husband. He was one of the other drivers and six years younger than me – a mere twenty-three – and I remember being grateful that I could legally go out with him 🙂
  1. Had children. I wrote this list in chronological order, but if I’d written it in order of most important then having children would have been number one on my list. It is by far the best, most rewarding thing I’ve ever done. My family brings me joy every day and makes me realize how truly blessed I am.
  1. Decided to write a book. Unlike most people who write, I didn’t start writing until I was in my forties, although I always had characters dancing around in my head. I guess you could say that writing is part of my mid-life crisis. I woke up one day and realized that if I wanted to put my stories down on paper I had to do it soon. Then, of course, I had to learn how to write, but that’s a whole other blog post.
  1. Contracted by TWRP. After many false starts, half written manuscripts, and six years of struggling to learn the craft of writing – a profession that is profoundly humbling and rewarding at the same time – My novella A Woman of Honour was contracted by The Wild Rose Press. TWRP then contracted the complete series, A Woman of Love and A Woman of Courage. I’m hoping to publish a collection of short stories entitled Murder by Bear and Other Short Stories, in April or May. I’m also working on a full–length contemporary suspense entitled Sun Seeker.

Blurb:

When an injured Fianna Byrne turns up at Connell O’Neill’s gate twelve years after their separation he knows this could be his last chance to find happiness with the woman he loves.

False accusations against Fianna had strained relations between their clans and forced Connell, under Irish law, to divorce her. Their disastrous three-month relationship left Fianna pregnant and heartbroken. She has avoided Duncarraig and her ex-husband ever since.

But with her home obliterated by the Vikings, Fianna must face her past in order to save her son, and prove once and for all she is a woman of courage.

Excerpt:

Twelve years ago she’d been Connell’s wife. His devastating rejection of her, after only three months of marriage, and their subsequent divorce caused a pain so real it twisted her insides. The hostilities that ensued after their separation, followed by an uneasy truce when she found she was pregnant with their son, Lorcan, made it prudent to restrict her contact.

During their short marriage he had weakened her in a way no other man could. She’d transformed into a woman so overtaken with lust she’d been blind to everything, including his true feelings. With Connell all her instincts, control, and intellect became like overcooked oats, a sludge that thought of nothing except him.

Her breath caught when her former husband strode out of the large central house, marching toward her. His long limbs and easy stride accentuated the rippling muscles of his legs. Every movement emphasized his grace and strength. He was still tall and broad, with long, smooth, black hair and a black beard to match. He would have been too handsome, too pretty, if it hadn’t been for his large crooked nose. That imperfection added to his allure, making him more appealing. Her pulse quickened, and her body warmed with need. She forgot her reason for being here, forgot everything except him. Damn it. Even in her injured state, with everything she had endured, he still had the ability to turn her mind to mud.

Fill The Stadium is based on a charity football game held in Soldier’s Field at Harvard University – a K.M. Daughters’ idea after learning about ALD through Kathie’s son. He is an alumnus and former captain of the Harvard football team. His dear friend’s grandson died of ALD which prompted his passion for fundraising benefiting research. We wrote the novel inspired by the charity event concept that we created.

Why did you choose this genre (is it something you’ve written in before)?

We chose to write this story as mainstream fiction because it explores universal themes that we believe have mass appeal.

What was the most difficult thing about this one in particular?

ALD is a devastating disease that afflicts children. Despite that, we wanted to portray Jack’s battle as everyday heroism, memorable and valuable for any age. We also wanted to convey emotionally charged plot elements with simplicity and no melodrama.

What book have you read that you wish you would have written?

Just recently THE MAGIC STRINGS OF FRANKIE PRESTO by Mitch Albom. Could not put it down. You have to read this book. It is magical.

What’s the main thing that you could get rid of in your life that would give you more writing time?

Day jobs. 🙂

What actors would you like in the main roles if your book were made into a movie?

Oh this is such fun! Natalie Portman as Nikki Lambert, Chris Hemsworth as Ram Delaney, Jacob Tremblay as Jack, Emma Thompson as Kay Lambert, and Ed Harris as Mickey Lambert.

Would you rather have a bad review or no review?

No review –  hands down. We were biting our fingernails anticipating a Kirkus Review for Fill The Stadium and are thrilled that it was great.

Thank you so much for joining me today, ladies! And now, a few questions from K.M. Daughters…and a giveaway!

A question for your guests who are avid readers… What might prompt you to write a review for a book online, for example on Amazon or Goodreads?

We are excited to send a digital copy of Fill The Stadium to the first guest who answers this question correctly (hint – check K.M. Daughters’ website) 🙂

What is the date we celebrate as K.M. Daughters’ “birthday” – the day we received THE CALL from The Wild Rose Press for two novels?

Deja Vu All Over Again & A Fun Interview with Ashantay Peters PLUS a GIVEAWAY

I am extremely pleased to introduce today’s guest. Ashantay Peters is a fantastic author, with whom I have had the pleasure of working with on several stories as her editor at The Wild Rose Press.

Today, I am interviewing Ashantay, and she is sharing her new release. Enjoy…

Are there any tricks or habits you use when creating a story?

Do you mean other than sitting down at the keyboard and typing? Actually, come to think on it, I assemble jigsaw puzzles or make bead jewelry when I’m stuck on a plot point. Those two activities activate a different part of my brain, I guess, and I stop worrying about what’s not working in the book. When the weather is nice, I walk with a voice recorder, and more often than not, new ideas will pop up. Not from the bushes on the side of the road luckily–that would be scary!

What book have you read that you wish you had written?

Oh, way too many to list. I do have to end this post sometime, yes?  So instead of listing just one book, I’ll say I’d like to write like Jayne Ann Krentz! Both the novels written under that name and as Amanda Quick. Her books pull me in quick and keep me turning pages faster than a squirrel darting after peanut nuggets.

What do you want readers to come away with after they read Deja Vu All Over Again?

I write several different genres, but the one thing all my books have in common is humor. Our world is too filled with negativity, so my mission (and I did care to accept it, no “should” about it) is to give readers relief from stress in the form of laughter. I love to share smiles.

What genre have you never written that you ‘d like to write?

There are two genres I appreciate. First, Regency romance for the historical escape and second, science fiction/fantasy for the world building. I enjoy reading both genres, but understand I’m not ready to write either.  Doggone it. Maybe next year.

What celebrity would you most like to be stranded on an island with?

Carlos Santana. Yes, my tie-dyed hippie roots are showing.  I’d like to meet him because he holds fascinating spiritual beliefs. His life experiences run the gamut from growing up poor to traveling the world and meeting all kinds of other famous people. I think our conversations would be wide-ranging, and when we tired of talking, I’d be happy to listen to him play and sing!

Thank you for the fun interview, Ashantay. Hmmm, I keep hearing about Jayne Ann Krentz and I don’t think I’ve read her. I guess I need to remedy that.

Now, Ashantay has a question for you and she’s giving away a copy of her awesome book!

***GIVEAWAY!!!***

Who would you like to be stranded with – on an island, stuck in an elevator, in a desolate cabin during a snow storm – you choose! Or make up your own scenario. I want to hear names…fantasies…and what’s said here stays, well, on the Internet, so use discretion if you choose. But it’s more fun to let loose once in a while, isn’t it? I’ll be sending an electronic copy of my latest release, Déjà vu All Over Again, to a commenter.

BLURB:

Rock star Jack Reed has secrets. He’s kept his first marriage to a girl he met at Woodstock, and their son, under wraps for decades. Now his child has tracked him down wanting answers.

Former hippie Sally Ford never fully recovered from Jack’s betrayal of their family. She believes he put his career first then and will again, leading to another shattered ending.

Jack and Sally’s first meeting is combustible. Can they confront their past and overcome a history of deceit and manipulation to find peace and love?

EXCERPT

“And how is Sally, uh, I mean, your mother?” He wasn’t sure why he’d asked about a woman who’d torn out his heart, but too late to call back the words.

“I call her Sally in public, Mom in private. Can’t remember how that got started but it works for us. She’s fine.”

“She didn’t have a problem with us meeting?”

         “No, no, she’s fine.”

Jack knew bullshit when someone spun it, and Carlos wove a blanket. He raised his eyebrows. “Really? I figured she’d fight this get-together.”

“Nope.” Carlos chuckled. “Okay, she didn’t look happy, more resigned. Maybe a little scared.”

She doesn’t want me around. I can get down with that feeling.

“You’re not pissed with me or her, are you? For keeping quiet about my identity? The band hit crazy big on that first tour. She, we thought you’d be better off out of the spotlight.”

Carlos tilted his head to the side, and Jack recognized Sally in the gesture. “I haven’t had time to digest the information. I guess you both had a good reason for the charade, and even though I’m not pressing now, I’ll want answers.”

Icy fingers gripped his gut. “So my leaving did piss you off.”

         “Not totally.”

Jack held on to his coffee cup with both hands, happy his son hadn’t walked out yet. Sure, he’d signed away his rights to Carlos, but Sally had been impossible to find after she’d left. She’d made it clear—through lawyers—that he’d only screw up their son, and he’d believed her.

Then his actions had proved her right.

New Release Spotlight – Sandra Dailey “Close Enemy” from The Wild Rose Press – PLUS a Giveaway!

Check out this new release from Sandra Dailey. I LOVE the cover. Sounds like an awesome read!

 SandraDaileyimage1-14-16

Blurb – Caleb McCrae is a powerful man with a broken soul. In six years, Leah was the only person to help him forget the painful memories, but only for one night. Now she seems to have disappeared. A mysterious letter arrives, and she’s in trouble…in more ways than one.

Leah Fletcher’s life is complicated. To care for her drug and alcohol addicted mother she works at a sleazy men’s club…until she finds out she’s pregnant and is framed for a crime that lands her in jail. When a stranger visits, she learns her troubles have just begun.

Bogdan Petrov has waited eleven years to get back the money Leah’s father stole from him. Despite her denials, he knows she’s hiding it. He’s arranged to infiltrate every part of her life until he gets what he wants, but soon realizes that an unknown person is doing the same to him.

Excerpt – Caleb sat in a plastic chair in front of a glass window with a telephone mounted on each side at his right. The chair across from him was empty. After five more minutes an inmate was led to the door. When she came into view through a large window, his heart skipped a beat. It was her, Leah.

Her dark ringlets had grown to barely brush her shoulders and looked dull. Her face was pale and sad, but he was sure she was the girl who’d written.

She raised her handcuffs to be checked. The orange scrub top was so big on her the shoulder seams fell several inches down her thin upper arms. There was a chain attached to the cuffs that would be hooked to a belt around her waist. Her feet were probably shackled too. Didn’t they know she was harmless? Caleb rubbed his temples to ward off a gnawing ache. The man on the phone had said seven months. Almost the entire time he’d looked for her, she’d been right here…serving a jail sentence. How had this happened to such a gentle soul? She couldn’t be the woman he’d thought her to be.

When the door opened, she shuffled to the chair across from him. The chains from her wrists and between her feet probably weighed as much as she did. There wasn’t a belt at her waist, though. It hung around her hips…under her basketball-sized belly. Caleb’s stomach twisted and he felt a little lightheaded. She was, without a doubt, pregnant.

Question – Have you ever seen someone after a long period of time and found that they’d drastically changed?

Prize – Tell us about it in a comment for a chance to win a copy of the first book, Common Enemy, for you Kindle or Nook. Be sure to include your email address. I’ll choose my favorite answer on Saturday, January 16, 2016. Return to this post or my Facebook page that afternoon to see who won.

Bio – Sandra Dailey lives with her husband and mother in a small town in North Florida, far from the maddening crowds. Her children and grandchildren all live close and keep her ridiculously busy and active. Her passions are reading, writing, and crafts. Her addictions are coffee, chocolate, and football. Her aversions are cooking, housework and negative people. She loves to hear from fellow readers and writers, so get in touch.

par for two

Her sexy weekend fling.

Ex-lawyer turned pregnancy model Danielle Hampton has one simple rule; never date an attorney, even if he’s so deliciously hot she’s nicknamed him His Hotness Esquire. When her father asks her to strap on her silicone bump and pretend to be Casey Lowe’s pregnant fiancée in order to pull her family’s law firm out of trouble, her first answer is a resounding no! But she owes Casey for wrecking his pool.

Civil Rights Attorney Casey Lowe lives by a code of practice: never date his boss’s daughter, but he’ll do just about anything to make partner at the top law firm—even if it means violating his personal code. He hasn’t bargained on the fierce desire that burns hotter than the Mojave Desert and combusts every time he gets his boss’s daughter alone. She may drive him to distraction and melt in his arms, but will this party girl hang around long enough for him to convince her that all the best parties… are for two?

Then there was that neatly trimmed and maintained stubble that gave him a manly, distinguished look. Yep, she couldn’t dismiss the truth, Casey Lowe was captivating on a whole new level, and those electric blue eyes could lure a woman to his bedroom and make her lose her panties before she even knew what was happening. Until it was too late, because Lowe had heartbreaker written all over his tantalizing body.

“Yes, I sleep.” She cast a glance at the chaos her friends had made of his pool. “I just didn’t want to leave this in such a mess.” Once she repaired all the damage, she’d do everything in her power to never cross paths with Lowe again. He was way too tempting and too off-limits for her not to keep her distance.

“Go home, Dani, you’re keeping me awake, and I have court in the morning.”

Just like that, he dismissed her, turned, strolled back into his bedroom, and slid the patio door shut behind him. Less than a minute later all of the lights went out, leaving Dani gawping after him in the dark.

Well, how do you like that? Dissed and dismissed.
