Alexa Grace – Deadly Holiday

Alexa deadlyholiday_ebookcover200x300

Tantalizing Tidbit:

In Deadly Holiday, all of the characters from the previous three Deadly Series books play a role. The characters return to search for a lost boy, fight breast cancer, deal with the personal financial impact of a bad economy, and seek a Christmas miracle.

Favorite lines:

“He then tiptoed to the big rocking chair where he sat and gazed with wonder at the tiny baby kicking her legs beneath the pink blankets in the bassinet next to him. With his index finger outstretched, Shawn ever so slowly stroked the velvety soft skin of her arm, and then smiled with delight when her tiny hand clutched his finger and she cooed. She was named Mylee. Her middle name was Faith, because Mom said that faith was the only thing that got her through the days he was missing. She told him that faith would get them through all the days ahead.”

Favorite Christmas memory or tradition:

I’m from Indiana and one year we were snowed in for the holiday and it was great. My brother, sister, and I went sledding and then had hot cocoa in front of the best electric fireplace. One of my best holiday memories.

Ann Charles ~ The Old Man’s Back in Town

THeOldMansBackinTownCover

A sizzling, suspenseful SHORT STORY wrapped in a puzzling mystery that will leave you hungry for more.

Tantalizing Tidbit:

The story is set in the town of Goldwash, Nevada, which is a fictional town I created based on the real ghost town of Goldfield, Nevada.

Favorite lines:

“That woman was nuttier than a squirrel turd. Her leaving was my good fortune.”

“Well, well, well. Look what Santa brought you, Monty, a hunka-hunka burnin’ heartache. You must have been naughty this year.”

“Montana, think about what you’re up against. He’s twice your size, built up with years of prison bulk and revenge, and probably pissed as hell at the woman who helped put him behind bars.”

Favorite Christmas memory or tradition:

My favorite memory is making Buckeye candies (little peanut butter balls dipped in chocolate). I make them now with my kids, who eat one for every ten we dip, I swear. Ha!

Misty Evans and Adrienne Giordano ~ Holiday Justice

 christmasholidayjustice

When the wrong Santa comes down your chimney…

Tantalizing Tidbit:

Misty’s:

The story contains viewpoints from 4 of our characters. It was fun to revisit Grey, Sydney, Caroline and Mitch all over again!

Adrienne’s:

I can hit a bullseye from 220 yards with a .308 sniper rifle.

Favorite lines:

Misty’s:

A clang behind them made Mitch whirl, ready to jump on whoever was coming up the fire escape. A second later, Sydney’s head popped up over the roof edge.“What the hell are you two doing?”

And that’s when an idea—a terrible, awful idea—formed in Mitch’s head.

Adrienne’s:

His eyes narrowed, and even through the cold, she spotted the simmering heat that always charged her body, made her tingle with anticipation because their love of cupcakes didn’t necessarily include eating them. The things they did with cupcakes should, in fact, be illegal.

Favorite Christmas memory or tradition:

Misty’s:

Watching Christmas movies. I love all of them from White Christmas to The Grinch!

Adrienne’s:

Spending Christmas Eve with my extended family. We do a variation of the Feast of the Seven Fishes and I look forward to it every year.

Kim Hornsby ~ Christmas Interrupted (Dream Jumper Christmas)

Christmas Interruped FINAL

How well do you know your neighbors?

Tantalizing Tidbit:

Christmas Interrupted is a Stand Alone Novella but continues from the last Dream Jumper book (if you’ve read the series.) I did not give away much of anything so readers can go back to the first book, read the series and still enjoy all the twists and surprises in all three books. And I included a recipe for Christmas cookies!

Favorite lines:

“I heard the woman jumped off the widow’s walk to her death and soon after the husband and kids moved away.”

Favorite Christmas memory or tradition:

Christmas Caroling! I love to get a group of kids together to go door to door singing.

Jacki Delecki ~ Marriage Under Fire

JackiDelecki_MarriageUnderFire1400

A Christmas Wedding with the Grayce Walters Mystery Gang!

Tantalizing Tidbit:

The house where Maddy and Hunter are on a stake out is a friend’s house.

Favorite lines:

“No way would Maddy Jeffers admit, even under the threat of torture, that her killer shoes were killing her.”

He was a professional soldier, a top-notch intelligence officer, and the idea of a wife—not any wife, but Maddy—terrified him. This assignment made Belarus and Yemen seem like child’s play.

Favorite Christmas memory or tradition:

Singing Christmas Carols, baking Christmas cookies with my mom.

Lori Leger ~ Christmas 911

Lori Christmas 911 cover

Last minute Christmas shopping can be downright deadly!

Tantalizing Tidbit:

I, personally, have never had to call 911, or known anyone who’s been a 911 dispatcher, but I found plenty of information on different sites. The story takes place in Beaumont, TX, so I was able to pull up info from their area. My son-in-law is a cop, so he helped me out with the info for the weapons and ammo, and even whether or not a gunshot would shatter or fracture the door glass. I also had inside info from a dear friend who works at the courthouse in Beaumont to know at what point the bad guys could help a prisoner escape. She told me they had one prisoner appear at the courthouse and he nearly escaped by putting a ham sandwich between his skin and the ‘shock belt’ they place around their waist (like a taser) so that it didn’t shock him when he went to escape. He jumped down some stairs and hurt his leg, so they caught him.

Favorite lines:

(Scene set-up) 8 1/2 month pregnant Cori, is telling Luke, the 911 dispatcher, how her husband had left her for another woman because Cori couldn’t have children. Her husband wrapped his car around a tree while his girlfriend was giving him oral sex. “Yeah. Here’s a tad more irony for you. There he was, wanting to procreate, but his last DNA ends up . . . well, one can only assume where it ended up, I guess.”

Favorite Christmas memory or tradition:

I rent two cabins on a lake about an hour from our home and our family spends the weekend there, usually two weeks or so before Christmas. This will be the first time in seven years we don’t do that…and I’m kind of bummed about it. 😦

Alicia Dean ~ The Twelfth Day

TheTwelfthDayFINAL2015Final_resized (2)

Tantalizing Tidbit(s):

-I wrote this entire story in a weekend and revised it in a few days, along with working my day job and other projects.

-My ex-husband and son helped me with a research question.

-My model for the hero was James Marsden and for the heroine Kate Beckinsale.

-My heroine loves science and dislikes football, which is the exact opposite of me.

Favorite lines:

A ping sent icy chills over her skin. The familiar, terrifying music played and the words, On the eighth day of Christmas appeared. Along with an image of a figure—a young man, blank eyes staring at the ceiling—lying in a dim room.

Favorite Christmas memory or tradition:

I have lots of great memories from my childhood, but my favorite memory/tradition is with my own three children. Even though they are grown and don’t live with me, every year on Christmas Eve, the three of them spend the night with me and we wake up the next morning and open gifts and the stockings ‘Santa’ filled during the night. Even the three years I lived away in Kansas City, we managed to keep the tradition. I know that will end when they have families of their own, but in the meantime, I’ll just enjoy and appreciate it.

Amara Draska ~ The Way Evil Does

The Way Evil Does

A story about right, wrong, and what you can’t stop yourself from doing.

Tantalizing Tidbit:

My POV character, Rebecca, is a departure from the norm. She has inner demons to contend with and makes different choices than many of us would. Before this was published I considered modifying her character to conform to the expectations most readers have for a female lead, but it bothered me to see her changing into someone else. In the end, I stuck to my original vision of Rebecca with her kind heart, quirks, awkwardness and bad behavior.

Favorite lines:

And even though he was gagged, the part of his mouth that was still visible showed a smile. He was grinning the way evil does when it knows it has you.

It felt so damned good to be with him, but at the same time it also felt sick and wrong, and much like the contrary mixture of sweet and sour in Chinese food, it was delicious as hell. God help me.

He had gotten under my skin, turning frigid on me after my remark about his desperate, delusional horseshit. In retrospect, that had been the wrong approach to take with him.

Favorite Christmas memory or tradition:

We always make snowball cookies (proper name: Russian Teacakes). It just wouldn’t be Christmas without them.

Would you survive? Jill James with her new release, Love in the Time of Zombies…

I am pleased to welcome Jill James with a fun interview, and an intriguing new release….

Where did you get the idea for Love in the Time of Zombies?

I love reading in the zombie apocalypse genre and of course, romance. So I thought, why not combine the two?

Why did you choose this genre (is it something you’ve written in before)?

No, this is my first time. My other books are contemporary and paranormal romance.

Was there anything unusual, any anecdote about this book, the characters, title, process, etc, you’d like to share?

The title is, of course, a play on Love in the Time of Cholera. I wanted to write a very strong female lead and LITTOZ is definitely Emily’s story.

What is the most difficult thing about writing a book?

Butt in chair, Hands on keyboard. Once I’m writing, I’m fine. But that showing up every day is hard for me.

What was the most difficult thing about this one in particular?

This book had my largest cast to date. I had to use index cards on a white board to keep track of people and attributes.

What book have you read that you wish you would have written?

World War Z by Max Brooks. That book started my zombie apocalypse binge reading. He took such a chance writing it as a series of articles and interviews.

What do you love that most people don’t like and wouldn’t understand why you do?

Well, probably the whole zombie apocalypse thing. I love The Walking Dead, Zombieland, and even Shaun of the Dead. I’ve probably read 500 ZA books in the past two years.

What’s your favorite book of all time and why? What’s your favorite childhood book?

Skye O’Malley by Bertrice Small That book is timeless. Skye O’Malley is such a kickbutt heroine. I love her!! My favorite childhood book was the Little House on the Prairie books. It opened my eyes that someone could write a book about their life and people would want to read it.

What actors would you like in the main roles if your book were made into a movie?

I’ve always envisioned Alex O’Loughlin as Seth Ripley in my book. With longer hair and those soulful eyes. Yum! For Emily Gray it has always been Alyssa Milano in my mind. That deceptive fragility she has and the under layer of steel.

What genre have you never written that you’d like to write?

Historical romance. The research necessary scares me.

What is your favorite quote?

Do. Or do not. There is no try. –Yoda

Now Jill has a question for our readers…

Would you survive the zombie apocalypse?

LoveintheTimeofZombies200x300

Influenza swept the planet. In months, two billion were dead. In the decimated United States, President Andrew Thomas signed an Executive Order to spray the national food and water supply with a flu vaccine. It spread and mutated up the food chain. The infected craved the flesh of the living and the undead walked the earth.

Overnight, Emily Gray’s privileged world was ripped away. From pampered trophy wife to sharpshooter zombie hunter. From an elite address in San Francisco to the outskirts of an East Bay farm town. You never know what event will define you. The apocalypse showed Emily what she was truly capable of doing to survive.

Seth Ripley was a truck driver with simple dreams. Pay off his mortgage, not live paycheck to paycheck, and take care of his mom. The end of the world as he knew it stole all that away. His home and livelihood are gone and the only dream he has left is for his mother to awake from her diabetic coma brought on from the trials and tribulations of getting out of Oakland ahead of the horde of undead.

When surviving day to day is all you ask of life, love seems an unrealistic dream. Who would ever think that something as terrible as the zombie apocalypse could bring Seth and Emily something as wonderful as their other half, their soul mate, their true love?

Now all they have to do is survive death, destruction, and a madman who wants to control what is left of the world they knew.

Excerpt:

Chapter One

Guess you never know. Who would have thought something as terrible as the zombie apocalypse would bring me something as wonderful as Seth Ripley?

Of course, the zombies got my mother and my father, and my husband, Carl. Pretty much, they got my whole family. Okay, my husband Carl had been an asshole so he was no great loss. Never could keep it in his pants, if I may be so crude. If he could’ve kept it in his pants, he may have kept that appendage altogether. But, it was the early days of the Z virus mutation and how could he know the hooker he took to the cheap by-the-hour motel had the sickness? I’m sure he didn’t realize anything until the woman chewed it off, to be honestly blunt. He never was a great one for paying attention during sex as it was. Oh, maybe in the early days of our marriage, but he’d changed in the last few years, just before the end of the world.

Five years of him spreading it far and wide to prove his virility and all I was left with was a one-sheet police report and a blurred photo of Carl with one between the opaque, dead eyes. The police had stopped trying to take sickies to the hospital a couple of weeks before. By the time Carl was attacked it was kill ‘em, identify ‘em, and burn ‘em in a pile. KIB was the order of the day. A few weeks after that and they skipped the identify part of the acronym too. A few weeks more and there weren’t enough police or bullets for the killing part either.

Six months had passed and the police were all gone, along with the military. Now it was survival of the fittest. Never in a million years would I have pictured myself; neglected society, trophy-wife, Emily Gray, in that category. Guess you never know.

Your day could start so shitty and end so… well, not great, because there weren’t too many great days anymore. The only definition to divide the monotony of the days were get bitten by a zombie day and not get bitten by a zombie day. But that day would turn out better than most. At least it would with a great deal of hindsight and distance from the event. Adding a whole hell of a lot of seeing a silver-lining after the fact helped too.

As with most days, I had zombie patrol for the morning, which was so not my best time of the day. But zombies don’t have an off switch so we had to hunt first thing in the morning to clear the perimeter around the giant mall.

Did you know shopping centers are the best defense against zombies? Me neither, until I got shipped out of what was left of San Francisco to the middle of nowhere—Brentwood. I’d never even heard of the town before I got sent there. Shopping centers are like medieval castles. Brick up the front doors and small back doors and the roof is like the battlements of a castle. Zombies can’t climb. Thank God for any small favor we could get. It’s about the only advantage we have. Because we have to sleep and the zombies don’t.

We were the last escapees of the city by the bay. Pre-Z the city had a population of more than 850, 000. In the end, San Francisco had 5,000 living beings to round up and ship to other communities to the east. The lieutenant governor (the governor had turned on live television and been put down) declared San Francisco the land of the undead, and blew up the bridges connecting it to the rest of the state and collapsed the Caldecott Tunnel for good measure. A bunch of massive explosions of entire city blocks to the south and San Francisco was pretty much an island of zombies.

My skin had burned lobster-red my first week of roof living here. San Francisco is more known for fog and chilly days than for getting a suntan. Once I tanned, it was the burnished copper of my ancestors—Native Americans of some unknown tribe, according to my mother. Way back in our ancestry, she had always been sure to add. The long hair my husband had insisted on was gone—happily. Long hair and zombies did not mix. My first day there I’d seen a young, blonde girl pulled back by her long braid and devoured in a dirt field. Long hair gone. Also happily gone, the extra thirty pounds I had carried through my unhappy marriage years. Running from zombies was the best aerobic exercise around. The penalty for missing a day of exercise was death—or nondeath in our case.

No one knew for sure back then if the animals were susceptible to the mutation, and what eating them would do to us, so breakfast was lots of fruits, vegetables, and soy patties. After six months of eating the food and drinking the water, either we were going to turn undead or not as far as I was concerned. I looked at it like this, if we were going to turn, we would have already done so. Scientific types were still testing cows and pigs to see if they just had the flu vaccine in them or if it would mutate in them too. Hadn’t seen any pigs or cows running amok yet.

Katie O’Sullivan and her 99¢ Mermaid Books!!!

I am happy to introduce author, Katie O’Sullivan and her books about mermaids. Who doesn’t love mermaids???

Happy Holidays, and thanks for inviting me to your blog today, Alicia! I’m excited to share the news about a HUGE KINDLE SALE going on at my other publisher, Crescent Moon Press. Load up your Kindle with some great reads, or send them as holiday gifts!

The first two books of my young adult paranormal series are available at this sale price until the end of December. SON OF A MERMAID introduces us to a secret world hidden beneath the waves… yes, I’m talking about mermaids! Here’s the cover and blurb:

KatieOSullivan_SonofaMermaid

About the Book:

Shea MacNamara’s life just got complicated.

After a freak tornado devastates his Oklahoma farm, the fifteen-year-old orphan moves to Cape Cod to live with a grandmother he’s never met. Struggling to make sense of his new surroundings, he meets a girl along the shore who changes his life forever.

Kae belongs to an undersea world hidden from drylanders. The daughter of royal servants, she knows the planned marriage of her Princess to the foreign King should put an end to the war between the clans. Two things stand in the way of lasting peace: an ambitious Regent and rumors of a half-human child who will save the oceans.

Sparks fly when she meets Shea, but could the cute drylander really be the Son of a Mermaid?

Buy it on AMAZON here : http://www.amazon.com/Son-Mermaid-Katie-OSullivan-ebook/dp/B00CRLSH9G/ref=pd_sim_b_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=1V8ZK9N5K662TN0TQ76K

The second book in the series is BLOOD OF A MERMAID, also part of this great Kindle 99 cent sale! The story picks up a few weeks after the first book ends. I absolutely love this cover art!

BloodofaMermaid_cover

About the Book:

Mermaid blood.

When Shea MacNamara fell into the ocean for the first time, he found he could breathe underwater. The son of a mermaid, the sea is in his blood. Literally. The best part of Shea’s new life? His girlfriend Kae, who also happens to be a beautiful mermaid.

But darkness lurks under the sea. When evil mermen kidnap Kae, the king reminds Shea that having royal blood means making tough choices.

An Arctic dungeon, a fiery plane crash, the legendary halls of Atlantis…and narwhals?

Having mermaid blood just got a lot more complicated.

Buy it on AMAZON here: http://www.amazon.com/Blood-Mermaid-Katie-OSullivan-ebook/dp/B00KAKMPV2/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1400237013&sr=1-2&keywords=blood+of+a+mermaid

As a special holiday treat, here’s an excerpt from the first book. Enjoy – and don’t forget to download your copy before the sale runs out!

Excerpt from Son of a Mermaid:

Her body shivered under his touch, and he remembered why they’d come upstairs in the first place. “Are you still cold?” he asked as he put his arm around her and hugged her against him. She felt warm against him, her body radiating heat like a bonfire. Her hair smelled of salt air and sunshine.

“I’m not cold,” she whispered as she shivered again. “Just scared.”

He cupped her cheek with his hand and tipped her face upward, looking down into her wide eyes. “Don’t be,” he whispered back, and kissed her lightly. Her lips were soft and tasted of salt and sweetness, like the saltwater taffy they sold in the center of town. He wound his fingers through her golden locks, her hair silky and fine to his touch like spun sunshine, as he locked his lips more firmly to hers. His heart hammered within his chest, the blood pounding in his ears drowning out the world around them, he felt as though he were tumbling through space…until a sharp bark brought him back to the present and he opened his eyes. Lucky was standing next to the bed, prodding Kae with his black muzzle.

Kae drew away suddenly, her cheeks flaming red once again. “Oh,” she said, jumping to her feet. “Oh, I’m so sorry!”

“Sorry?” Shea stood slowly, his brow knotting with confusion. “What is there to be sorry about?”

“I… I… Maybe we’d better get going. My father will know what to do to help your mother.” She turned abruptly and walked into the hallway. He felt like all the heat had left the room with her, his heart still beat with a rapid, steady sharpness. Sorry? Why would she say that?

Lucky still stood next to Shea. He looked down at the dog and frowned. “Way to go, dog,” he muttered. “Rule number one? Never interrupt a first kiss.”

Lucky gave another sharp bark and wagged his tail.

About the Author:

Katie O’Sullivan lives with her family and big dogs next to the ocean on Cape Cod, drinking way too much coffee and inventing new excuses not to dust. A recovering English major, she earned her degree at Colgate University and writes romance for young adults and the young at heart. Her editing column, “The Write Way,” appears in the Literary Women section of CapeWomenOnline magazine.

Living next to the Atlantic influences everything she writes. Her YA mermaid series begins in Nantucket Sound with SON OF A MERMAID, and continues the undersea adventures with BLOOD OF A MERMAID, coming from Crescent Moon Press in May 2014. Her latest contemporary romance from The Wild Rose Press is MY KIND OF CRAZY, a Cape Cod story of second chances and starting over.

Wednesday’s Want, Wed, Waste: Valentine’s Day – Romantic Movie Leads

Hello and welcome to my version of the game, ‘F*@#’, Marry, Kill. This week we are WWW’ing Actors in Romantic Movie Roles.

Myself and some of my friends are sharing our Want, Wed, and Waste choices from this week’s list:

Tom Hanks in Sleepless in Seattle, Matthew McConaughey in How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days, Patrick Dempsey in Made of Honor

********************************************

Me (Alicia Dean). Author of Valentine romance short story, Cupid’s Beau – What happens when a Cupid falls for her target? (ON SALE for only 99¢)

Want: Matthew McConaughey, I LOVED How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days, and MM is very hot, but he acts a little ‘off’ sometimes, so I would just want him on a temporary basis. But many times. 🙂

Wed: Patrick Dempsey. I adore Patrick Dempsey. There’s something about him that really appeals to me. I would Wed him so I could Want him often. And if you haven’t seen Made of Honor, you’re missing out. It is such a cute, fun, sexy movie. Definitely a good choice for Valentine’s Day (or any day). He also seems like a good husband, so Wedding him is a win-win.

Waste: Tom Hanks. I like him and respect him, and Sleepless in Seattle was a good movie. He and Meg had good chemistry, but he’s the least appealing of the two. Everyone loves Tom Hanks, so if I actually wasted him, I’m sure a lot of people would be angry with me, so I won’t. But he’s in my Waste category by default.

************************************

Marie Tuhart, author of More Than One Night – Escape to an Erotic Fantasy, Website: http://www.marietuhart.com

Want – Matthew McConaughey – because he’s the ultimate bad boy and so darn cute.  I can just cuddle up with him and have all sorts of fun.

Wed – Tom Hanks – because he’s the man you bring home to meet the parents.  He’s funny, sensitive and faithful.  And not bad to look at.

Waste: Patrick Dempsey – there is just something about him that turns me off.  I’m not sure what it is, but he’s not my type of guy.

************************************

Kathy L Wheeler, author of Quotable ~~ Bloomington Series, book 1 ~~ BE SURE to grab this one, it’s FREE!!! Website:

!!! – Kathy is giving away a copy of Book 2 in the Bloomington Series – Maybe It’s You – A winner will be drawn from the commenters

Want: How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days is my absolute favorite Romantic Comedy. Just typing this out makes me want to drop everything and go put the dvd in. Yum, yum, yum. Plus, Mr. McConaughey is not only a Texas, but hell, was he ripped in Magic Mike. Yeah, I’ll let Matt do me!

Wed: The only part of Sleepless in Seattle that I really loved was when Rosie and Meg were watching An Affair to Remember with Deborah Kerr and Cary Grant (the sexiest man of all time). But who wouldn’t wed a lovable Tom Hanks? Not me. I’ll take him.

Waste: This is ridiculous. There is no possible way to waste Patrick Dempsey. The man pulled a victim out of a burning car for God’s sake! No. I’ll just have to want <i>and</> wed him too. I’m BREAKING the rules.

************************************

Diane Burton, author of ONE RED SHOE – Wannabe writer rescues wounded spy while risking her heart.  Website:  www.dianeburton.com

Want: Patrick Dempsey. Patrick is hot! What my mom would’ve called a dreamboat. Didn’t see him in Made of Honor; loved him in Enchanted.

Wed: Tom Hanks. No question. I watch Sleepless in Seattle every time it’s on and get all choked up every time. Even better in You Got Mail. In real life, he seems very devoted to his wife Rita. Gotta love that.

Do I have to waste one? Then I guess it has to be Matthew McConaughey.  I didn’t see him in How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days, but I loved him in Failure to Launch.

************************************

M.J. Schiller, author of TRAPPED UNDER ICEA rock star. A lunch lady. Can they bridge the gap? ON SALE for only 99¢! Website: www.mjschillerauthor.blogspot.com

M.J. is giving away a copy of BETWEEN ROCK AND A HARD PLACE. A winner will be drawn from the commenters

Want: Gotta go with Matthew McConaughey. He hasn’t aged all that well, but I’m not exactly a beauty contest winner, either, so I’m not gonna be picky. He still has a certain charm.

Wed: Patrick Dempsey! He has that wholesome, boy next store, killer smile thing going for him and he just seems like a nice guy.

Waste: Wait. Wait just one minute here. I can’t waste Tom Hanks! He’s too awesome and cool. Huh. McConaughey has to go. Waste McConaughey, Wed Hanks and Want Dempsey. Sorry, Matthew. I guess that whole poor aging thing meant more to me than I thought. And you never did “Big” or “Sleepless in Seatle” or “Castaway”…and you’re not the voice of Woody. Ba-bye.

Wednesday’s Want, Wed, Waste: Action Film Actors

Hello and welcome to my version of the game, ‘F*@#’, Marry, Kill. This week we are WWW’ing Actors in Action Movie Roles.

Myself and some of my friends are sharing our Want, Wed, and Waste choices from this week’s list:

Jason Statham, Matt Damon, Gerard Butler

jason matt-damon-jason-bourne olympus-has-fallen-gerard-butler-1-600x398

Click on book titles below to learn more and to be taken to a buy link

********************************************

Me (Alicia Dean). Author of Valentine romance short story, Cupid’s Beau – What happens when a Cupid falls for her target? (ON SALE for only 99¢)

Want: Gerard Butler. He is so, so, sexy. And I loved Olympus Has Fallen, among other movies he’s made. He was tough and smart and BadA$$ in Olympus. And he was scruffy and dirty during a great deal of the movie. Yum!

Wed: Jason Statham. Oddly, I’m not that fond of the Transporter movies and most of his other movies, but he is the quintessential action guy, and he deserves kudos for that. So, I’d give him a Wed. (I thought about switching his spot with Gerard, but how can I NOT want Gerard Butler?)

Waste: Matt Damon. He seems like a good guy, and I love his sense of humor. Also, he’s an amazing actor. But I’ve never thought he was all that hot, and he’s not my favorite when it comes to action roles. Sorry, Matt, I like you a lot, but gotta waste you.

************************************

SILVER JAMES, author of THAT OL’ BLACK MAGIC – Werewolves, Fae, and Dragons, oh my! What’s Sade Marquis, a human FBI agent, to do? Solve the crime, of course. Website: http:/www.silverjames.com

Want: Gerard Butler because…well…duh! Sexy, built, handsome, has a sense of humor and…did I mention sexy? Oh yeah. I definitely want Gerry! And his accent. Mrrrrrr.

Wed: Jason Statham because he drives like the wind, is protective, has mad martial arts moves (makes him VERY flexible 😉 ), is loyal, and I find him pretty darn sexy, too! Between he and Gerry, I will be a very happy lady. Did I mention accents? Oh, yeah. Jason can read me bedtime stories. *nods*

Waste: Matt Damon because I have to waste someone and he’s it. He’s cute, a little on the sexy side but we wouldn’t have much to talk about.

************************************

Diane Burton, author of ONE RED SHOE – Wannabe writer rescues wounded spy while risking her heart.   Website:  www.dianeburton.com

Want: Gerard Butler. The guy is hot! Loved him in the Lara Croft movie. While he does serious drama well, he can do comedy as in The Bounty Hunter and he can sing (Phantom of the Opera).

Wed: Matt Damon. Loved him in the Jason Bourne movies and he seemed such a natural as the father in We Bought a Zoo. Did you know he was a fan (uncredited) in the all-time feel-good movie Field of Dreams?

Waste: Sorry, Jason Statham. I can’t remember him in movies. Either I haven’t seen any of his or he wasn’t memorable.

************************************

Qwillia Rain, author of In A Lover’s Silence Website: http://authorqwilliarain.blogspot.com

Want: Gerard Butler/Jason Statham–They’re both hot and as physically fit as they are, there’s no doubt in my mind they could probably keep up with me in bed. (And I would love to see what they’d do to keep a lady’s attention if there was a bit of competition in the bedroom. LOL-I write erotic romance as well as romantic suspense, menage is all the rage.)

Wed: Matt Damon–because he has the ability to be both an action star as well as a dramatic actor, not to mention the man won an Oscar with his bestie Ben Affleck for Good Will Hunting. Adding to his appeal…the man took his mom to the Academy Awards the year his movie was nominated. So, he meets the action, drama, smart, and family-oriented criteria. And I have to admit, I’ve enjoyed him as both good guys and bad guys in his different films (especially in The Departed and The Bourne Series)

Waste: Gerard Butler/Matt Damon/Jason Statham– I think I could waste all three of them if they got on my last nerve…no matter how sexy or smart or satisfying they are in or out of bed…

************************************

Jill Hughey, author of the FREE historical romance, Unbidden  – Website http://jillhughey.blogspot.com

Want:  Gerard Butler because he is big, gorgeous and seems like he’d be fun. And I like his crooked mouth but I’m not sure that is going to age well. Watching him talk makes me wonder about dental or jaw problems later in life.

Wed: Matt Damon. I think Matt Damon is handsome, intelligent, and thoughtful, making him an obvious choice for the long haul.

Waste: Jason Statham has an awesome voice and sharp good looks. Out of these three choices, though, he leaves me the least interested.

************************************

Now we’d like to hear from you….which of these Hottie Action Guys would you Want, Wed, and Waste?
Thanks for playing!

Wednesday’s Want, Wed, Waste: Former U.S. Presidents

Hello and welcome to my version of the game, ‘F*@#’, Marry, Kill. This week we are WWW’ing U.S. Presidents.

Myself and some of my friends are sharing our Want, Wed, and Waste choices from this week’s list:

Franklin Roosevelt, Harry Truman, and Abraham Lincoln (What a bunch of hotties, am I right? ;))

fdr23 harry-truman-photo-3 abraham-lincoln

Click on book titles below to learn more and to be taken to a buy link

********************************************

Me (Alicia Dean). Author of Valentine romance short story, Cupid’s Beau – What happens when a Cupid falls for her target? (ON SALE for only 99¢)

Want: Roosevelt. I mean, if he was unfaithful anyway, I might as well get in on the action, right? He was suave, handsome, and a great leader. I would feel guilty, though, because I adore Eleanor. (Not that I was born when they were in office, mind you, (side note: I might be old, but I wasn’t around when ANY of these presidents were in office) but I admire what I’ve heard about her, I love her quotes. I actually should read her book now that I think about it…)

Wed: Truman. He seemed like a good, caring man. I admire that he fought in World War I. He did make a tough, controversial decision to drop the bomb, but I think he did it with the best of intentions. It put an end to a war that would have cost no telling how many more Japanese and American lives. So…anyway, I think he was a great leader and he did a lot of other good things while in office.

Waste: Lincoln. As much as I admire and respect him, he gets the ‘waste’ mainly because of his lack of attractiveness. But also, had I lived in the Civil War days, I would have wanted to be a Scarlett-like Southern Belle (although, admittedly, I would be hard-pressed to compete with her in the 18-inch-waist arena) and no self-respecting Southern Belle would dare to be seen with a damn Yankee! (No offense to all my Yankee friends – But, we’d have been duking it out on the battlefield)

************************************

SILVER JAMES, author of SEASON OF THE WITCH (The Penumbra Papers) –  A human FBI agent, a vampire, a supernatural serial killer–what can possibly go wrong? AMAZON LINK:  Website: http://silverjames.com

NOTE: Silver is offering a free digital copy of THAT OL’ BLACK MAGIC (the prequel novella in the Penumbra Papers series) in the winner’s choice of formats. Drawing will be held next Tuesday, February 4th – Be sure to leave your email address with your comment for your chance to win!

Want: Lincoln. I mean, who wouldn’t want a president who can hunt vampires? Okay, seriously, the man had a way with words. And he’s taller than I am. And likes women with padding. Works for me!

Wed: Truman – The buck stops with him. And he’s not afraid to make the hard decisions. He’s also a decent man, and to me? There’s just something inherently sexy about decency and doing the right thing, even when it feels wrong at the time.

Waste: FDR – Eleanor can keep him. I have trouble with infidelity in political leaders. I’m just weird that way.

************************************

Diane Burton, author of ONE RED SHOEWannabe writer rescues wounded spy while risking her heart. Website:  www.dianeburton.com

Want: This is tough. Roosevelt, I guess. Handsome, debonair. Sure knew how to manipulate the media—they never showed him in his wheelchair or walking with crutches. Charismatic—if he hadn’t died, I’d bet he would have served more terms.

Wed: Hands down, Harry Truman. He took ownership of problems—the buck stops here. He made sure even MacArthur respected the office of president. His best quality? He was faithful to Bess all his life. Back home in Missouri, they lived like regular people. (Saw a replica of their kitchen at the presidential museum.)

Waste: Again, tough choice. I admire Lincoln for his stance on slavery and preserving the union. But I just can’t see wanting or wedding him.

************************************

LYNDI LAMONT, author of TOVA’S DRAGON – An earth mage and a handsome dragonshifter team up to save the kingdom from an evil sorcerer. ON SALE for 40% off through Jan. 31 at  http://www.lyndilamont.com/

Want: FDR, who was apparently charming, urbane, and sophisticated, but not a faithful husband. An affair with him would have been a fascinating glimpse into the world of American aristocracy and probably a lot of fun. No place for a blue collar girl like me in the long run though. Can you say misfit?

Wed: Lincoln has been one of my heroes since I was a kid. Despite his faults, he was a great man: smart, funny and a good husband and father. Marriage to him would have been ultimately tragic, though.

Waste: Truman, mainly because of his decision to drop the A-bomb, the 20th c. version of opening Pandora’s Box.

************************************

Callie Hutton, author of The Elusive WifeHe doesn’t know he’s about to fall in love with his wife. www.calliehutton.com

Want: FDR as someone I’d want to have dinner with. Talk about his vision for the country.

Wed: President Abraham Lincoln. I imagine being married to such a compassionate man would be wonderful.

Waste: Truman. Not very memorable for me.

Wednesday’s Want, Wed, Waste: Elvis Presley’s Co-Stars – Giveaway – 99¢ Ebooks!

Hello and welcome to my version of the game, ‘F*@#’, Marry, Kill. This week, in honor of Elvis Presley’s birthday, we are WWW’ing three of his co-stars. I chose not to WWW Elvis because, for one, he’s incomparable. For another, no matter who was on the list, I would Wed and Want Elvis. Lastly, I wouldn’t take it very well if anyone wasted him. 🙂

So…myself and some of my friends are sharing our Want, Wed, and Waste choices from this week’s list:

Charles Bronson (Kid Gallahad), Bill Bixby (Speedway and Clambake), Dick Sargent (Live a Little, Love a Little)

charles bill bixby dick

********************************************

Me (Alicia Dean). FOUR different Ebooks on sale through January 15 from Amazon: 99¢ each! Lady in the Mist, Death Notice, Liberty Awakened, Liberty Divided. Click here for info and links: Alicia Dean Kindle Book Sale

Want: That would have to be Charles Bronson. He’s rugged and tough and sexy. I think it’s so awesome that he co-starred in an Elvis movie, then went on to be a huge star. Side note: My ex and I watched a lot of Bronson movies when we were married. He didn’t believe me when I told him Bronson played second fiddle to Elvis in a movie. I had to prove it to him. Then I had to divorce him. (That’s not really why, but it makes the story more interesting, right?)

Wed: Bill Bixby. He was a cutie and seemed like he’d make a good husband. Plus, it would be very handy if I was in jeopardy and he hulked out. (I really believe that could have happened)

Waste: Dick Sargent. I didn’t like it when he took over as Darrin for Dick York on Bewitched. He was also a BIG dweeb in Live a Little, Love a Little.

***********

Juli D. Revezzo, author of Drawing Down the Shades (Antique Magic book 2) Business can be hell…

!!! – Juli is donating the royalties from the sales of her Antique Magic series (THROUGH THE END OF TODAY, January 8th) to the  http://www.fibrofoundation.org/

Smashwords: https://www.smashwords.com/books/byseries/5714

The Amazon link is: http://amzn.to/1drmv4t

Juli’s website: http://julidrevezzo.com

Wed: Dick Sargeant (this was a toss up because Bronson would be a great protector. 🙂 but Sargent is …well? Samantha’s hubby. 🙂

Waste: Oh dear. Bill Bixby (sorry Hulk)

Want: Um, well?  I guess Bronson goes here then.

***********

M.J. SCHILLER, author of ABANDON ALL HOPE  Hope rules his heart. But is it too late? Website: www.mjschillerauthor.blogspot.com

GIVEAWAY: One commenter will received an e-copy of M.J. Schiller’s ABANDON ALL HOPE – Be sure to leave your email address with your comment.

Want: Bill Bixby- I always thought he was kind of cute, and he’d make an excellent husband I think, but I don’t want Charles Bronson or Dick Sargent, so…

Wed: Charlie Bronson- he’s make a great watch dog!

Waste: Dick Sargent- Not that I have anything against Dick Sargent per se, but of the three, he seems like maybe he has just a little edge of nastiness to him…? Am I wrong? Anyone else get that from him? I’m sure that some people would enjoy that snark, but I am attracted to kind-hearted guys. Not that Dick Sargent wasn’t, he may have been a great guy, but he wasn’t blatant about it, if you know what I mean.

***********

Diane Burton, author of ONE RED SHOE, a road trip adventure, will be released by The Wild Rose Press worldwide in all ebook formats and in print on Friday, January 10th.

Available at The Wild Rose Press: http://www.wildrosepublishing.com/maincatalog_v151/index.php?main_page=index&manufacturers_id=1082

Amazon: http://amzn.com/B00FDXRHZA

Website: http://www.dianeburton.com/

Want: Bill Bixby. Handsome. Okay, hot. I just hope he doesn’t get too excited and become the Incredible Hulk.

Wed: Charles Bronson. What a tough guy. You could depend on him to protect the ranch. Good husband material in his real life. I remember how devoted he was to his wife, Jill Ireland, until she died.

Waste: Dick Sargent. I can’t see him without thinking of Bewitched. All the Darrins were dorks.

***********

Qwillia Rain, author of In A Lover’s Silence    Website/Blog: http://authorqwilliarain.blogspot.com

Want: Bill Bixby…but only because I liked him as Bruce Banner, but I wouldn’t like to keep him permanently.

Wed: Charles Bronson! This is a no-brainer for me. Charles Bronson was always a strong and determined character, and he always exuded a powerful, in-control nature that truly appeals to me.

Waste: Dick Sargent, much as I enjoyed him as Samantha’s husband on Bewitched, but there’s just something about his passive nature that turns me off.

Wednesday’s Want, Wed, Waste: Talk Show Hosts – Giveaway – 99¢ Ebooks!

Hello and welcome to my version of the game, ‘F*@#’, Marry, Kill. This week we are WWW’ing talk show hosts.

Myself and some of my friends are sharing our Want, Wed, and Waste choices from this week’s list:

Johnny Carson, Jay Leno, David Letterman

carson lenbo letterman

Click on book titles below to learn more and to be taken to a buy link

********************************************

Me (Alicia Dean). FOUR different Ebooks on sale for a limited time from Amazon: 99¢ each! Lady in the Mist, Death Notice, Liberty Awakened, Liberty Divided. Click here for info and links: Alicia Dean Kindle Book Sale

Want: Johnny Carson. He was funny and adorable. Definitely the sexiest of the three. I think I would actually rather be married to him than David Letterman, but when I think of ‘want,’ Johnny definitely comes to mind before David. So, since I can’t Wed and Want Johnny, he gets the ‘want.’ (Who made up these stupid rules, anyway? J)

Wed: David Letterman. He’s not sexy at all, but he’s really funny. We would have a chaste marriage, but I would have a lot of laughs.

Waste: Jay Leno. He is NOT attractive, and I find him the least funny of the three. I’m SO glad Jimmy Fallon  is taking over for him on Late Night. Now, talk about a ‘want’…

********************************************

Callie Hutton, author of An Angel in the Mail, Angel never wanted to be a mail order bride, but now she’s facing a stranger with five children.  Website: www.calliehutton.com

Want: Johnny Carson, cause in his own way he’s ‘bad little boy’ sexy

Wed: Jay Leno, cause he’d always have me laughing

Waste: David Letterman. ::sigh:: It seems I wouldn’t need a reason, cause he really is a ‘waste.’

********************************************

SILVER JAMES, author of CHRISTMAS MOON  What’s a Wolf to do? Save the girl or save Christmas? Website: http://silverjames.com

Want: Johnny Carson. I went to bed with this man every night for years and I still miss his particular brand of humor. I just wish he was still breathing.

Wed: Jay Leno. He’s rich, funny, has a garage full of really hot classic cars–what’s not to get cuddly over that pre-nup with?

Waste: David Letterman. Yeah. He is sooooo not my type. Snide, arrogant, and there’s nothing socially redeeming about him, IMO.

********************************************

Linda McLaughlin, author of LADY ELINOR’S ESCAPE A runaway heiress leads her would-be rescuer on a merry chase in this sweet Regency romance. ON SALE for ONLY 99¢ at Amazon & B&N. Website: http://www.lindamclaughlin.com/ladyelinor.html

Want: David Letterman who has such an off-the-wall sense of humor. Though if I had my choice, it would be the adorable and equally off-the-wall Charleston dandy, Stephen Colbert. He’s such a hoot.

Wed: Jay Leno, who seems to be an all-around good guy. Plus have you seen his classic car collection? I’d love to go tooling up Pacific Coast Highway in a classic convertible with him some Sunday afternoon. I grew up with old cars and love them.

Waste: Johnny Carson, mostly because I’m not into necrophilia. 😉

********************************************

M.J. SCHILLER, author of BETWEEN ROCK AND A HARD PLACE (Even rock stars aren’t immune to murder.), http://www.amazon.com/BETWEEN-PLACE-ROCKING-ROMANCE-COLLECTION-ebook/dp/B00H0SPAAA/ Website: www.mjschillerauthor.blogspot.com

GIVEAWAY!!! M.J. is offering a FREE copy of Trapped Under Ice to one lucky commenter! Name will be drawn Monday, January 6, 2014 – Be sure to leave your email address along with your comment.

Want: Okay, I’m going purely on looks here for the want. Johnny Carson is the most attractive of the three, although he’s much older than I am and I probably wouldn’t be interested, no offense. But if you’re going straight looks, Johnny’s my pick.

Wed: Well I can’t say Letterman, because I think it was rumored that he’s had affairs. I’ve never heard that about Leno, so I’ll stick with him.

Waste: Wow, that leaves me wasting Letterman, who I have no real desire to waste. Sometimes this game is cruel.  …but I still LOVE it!

Now we’d like to hear from you….which of these Talk Show Hosts would you Want, Wed, and Waste?

Thanks for playing!

Upon her arrival in Shoal Harbor, Maine, Lily Jackson hears eerie moans that the locals claim are the ghostly cries of the unfortunate Breckenridge women. Running from loss and setback in Cincinnati, Lily needs the job as semi-psychiatric caregiver for Andrew Breckenridge, but the storm she has to weather from the oldest Breckenridge brother is severe. Clinton Breckenridge is a brooding man used to getting his own way, and he’s not convinced Lily is the right person to help his troubled younger brother.

Even as Lily starts picking up the pieces of Andrew’s tortured psyche and finding out his dark secrets, another mystery looms before her. Andrew’s lover has gone missing in recent months and no one knows what has happened to her, or if her voice has joined those of the other Breckenridge women. Before she knows it, Lily finds herself in danger—thrust directly into the eye of the raging storm.

Snippet:

That night, I was in my room preparing for bed when a loud crack of thunder vibrated through the room. I rushed to the window, dread pounding through me at the sight of the darkening sky. Drops of rain shimmered on the glass, and a startling bolt of lightning illuminated the lighthouse. Something flashed in the top window of the tower, and I squinted through the darkness. Had that been a face? That was impossible. The weather was making me imagine things. Another enormous clap of thunder boomed, and I jumped back, dropping the curtain.

I shivered. Stop this. It’s only a storm. You’re inside. You’re safe. I made a concentrated effort to stop the trembles running through my body. Choosing a book from the nightstand, I settled in bed to read. No way would I be able to sleep until the storm subsided. I tried to focus on the novel, but the words might as well have been written in Swahili for all I understood.

My mind kept wandering to the weather raging outside. With a determined effort, I focused on the page I’d already read no less than five times.

A particularly horrendous blast of thunder made me let out a scream. The lights went out, and I was plunged into darkness.

I froze, my legs quaking so badly, I couldn’t climb from the bed. But then again, did I want to? Wasn’t this the safest place to be?

I tried to remember if I’d seen any candles in the bedroom, but couldn’t recall. The storm was frightening enough, but a power outage was terror-inducing. The only illumination was the occasional flashes of lightening across the draperies, which only intensified my fear.

Forcing my legs to work, I threw off the covers and stood. There had to be a candle in here somewhere. I was halfway across the bedroom floor, making my way through the dark toward the dresser, when a violent rattle shook the doorknob.

A scream left my throat. I couldn’t think straight. Terror sent blood rushing through my eardrums, and it was several moments before I recognized Clinton’s voice. “Lillian? Are you all right?”

On shaking legs, I rushed to the door, mindless of the dark. I jerked it open and summoned all my willpower not to launch into Clinton’s arms. In the faint glow of the flashlight he held, I could barely make out his silhouette, but just having another human in the vicinity eased my terror.

“The power’s out,” I said stupidly.

“I know. I’m sorry. There are candles in the bathroom.”

“I wasn’t sure where to look. And it was dark…” I shuddered. “Why are you here?”

“Drew mentioned your fear of storms. I wanted to make sure you were okay.”

“Thank you.”

“Let’s get those candles.” His touch landed on my arm, warm and comforting. He guided me to the bathroom where he released me and opened a cabinet. Several candles, some new, some already used were stacked neatly in place. He grabbed the nearest one. Resting the flashlight on the countertop, he reached into his pocket. Flame from a lighter touched the candle’s wick. He turned off the flashlight and slipped it in his back pocket. The flare wavered over his features, which were drawn into a look of concern I’d glimpsed only a few times.

“You’re shivering,” he murmured. He rubbed his hands up and down my arms. The friction of his touch sliding the silk gown along my flesh sent a skitter of desire over my spine.

I met his gaze in the candlelight. His eyes shimmered a golden green. We stared at one another for a few excruciatingly silent moments. He tugged lightly, and I was pulled against his chest. My bones turned to liquid, his touch leaving languorous heat in its wake. His hands slid upward, settling on my face.

“What am I doing?” he asked, his voice a tortured groan.

Before I had time to respond, he lowered his head and claimed my mouth. The kiss was gentle, his lips warm and coaxing. I opened to him with a small moan, linking my hands behind his neck. I pressed into him while a wave of undeniable yearning ached in my lower belly. Madness. This is madness, a voice whispered in my head. In spite of the truth in the words, I didn’t stop.

Evil lurks beneath the surface in the beauty of the tropics…

After graduation from her small, Oklahoma high school, Liberty Delacort is looking forward to a fun-filled summer before college. But when the people she trusts the most betray her, and a letter arrives claiming her deceased father is still alive, she jumps at the chance to travel to an exotic island to meet him.

But her excitement is short-lived. Her father is dying, and he doesn’t want her around. And, in spite of its outward tranquility, the island is filled with danger and ominous secrets. The secrets soon begin to unravel, and she discovers she is a descendant of Van Helsing, the vampire hunter.

The one up side is her budding romance with the sweet and sexy Ryan Kelly. But even that is threatened when—in spite of her fear of him—she finds herself attracted to an insolent, formidable vampire. Her plan to stay away from him fails when she learns he is the only one with the ability to train her to fulfill her destiny—to save humans from a faction of vicious vampires.

Will her inexperience lead to her death—and the death of others—or will she rise to the challenge and realize her full potential as a Hunter?

Snippet:

Eli moved closer until only a hint of space separated their bodies. “Liberty?” His raspy voice was like a caress over her flesh. A breeze wafted over her bare back, and she shivered. She waited breathlessly for his next words, his next move. “You find me irresistible,” he whispered, his gaze never leaving hers. “You’re helpless to deny me anything. Your knees are weak.” He stroked his finger over her shoulder, letting them trail down to the center of her chest, just above her breasts. “Your heart is pounding for me right now. All you can think about is what it would feel like to kiss me.”

She licked her lips, wishing her glass wasn’t empty. Her mouth was so dry, she couldn’t speak. But oh wow…was he ever right. She didn’t even mind his aggressive, unusual approach. Something about the atmosphere, about leaving behind the trappings of home. The memories of what Cam and Alyssa had done made her reckless. She took his glass from his hand without breaking eye contact. His eyebrows rose as he watched her take a sip of the strong liquor, whatever it was. It burned her throat and eyes, but she resisted the urge to cough. It had done the trick, and she was able to whisper, “Yes.”

The corner of his mouth quirked. He moved closer, brushed his lips along hers, just a tease. That was it? That was the kiss? She bit back a groan of frustration. Her body ached with disappointment. But he moved toward her again, his eyes searching, his lips a hairsbreadth from hers. He stroked a hand down the side of her neck. His touch sent a flash of fire through her veins. She nearly moaned in anticipation, in yearning to feel his mouth, firm and hot against hers. She braced herself. Something primitive deep within told her this would be the kiss to rival any other. She swayed, her lids drifting shut, every nerve in her body tingling…

A scream tore through the night, breaking the spell. Liberty’s eyes flew open, and she gasped.

Eli stepped back. “Dammit,” he bit out. He cupped her cheek in his hand. “Don’t forget where we were.”

Then he was gone. She could barely feel her legs. Were they still supporting her? What the hell had just happened?

She shook her head, then followed the sound of excited voices where the scream had originated.

A group of people had gathered around a gazebo at the back of the house.

Liberty pushed her way through the crowd. Ryan knelt in the center of the gazebo next to a bench where a girl lay still. Her skin was as white as the moon, blank eyes staring at the midnight sky.

Liberty was afraid to look, but somehow couldn’t help herself. She scanned the girl’s body from head to toe. No blood. Good, that was a good sign, right? But the girl looked so…dead.

“Son of a bitch,” a male voice shouted. “She’s been drained.”

She starts to question her feelings for Ryan—are they real, or could Eli be ‘the one?’ As Eli and Liberty delve further into the murders, clues surface that point to Eli as the culprit. Can she trust him now? Or will she have to plunge a stake into his heart, breaking her own, just when she’s learning to believe in him again?

Snippet:

“Rough night?”

Liberty jumped at the sound of Eli’s voice. Speaking of darkness and evil

She turned a glare on him. He stood directly behind her, hands shoved in his pockets, yet he’d been in the bar only seconds ago.

“Don’t do that,” she snapped. She looked back at the tiki bar. “How the hell did you…?” She shook her head. “Never mind. You’re a vampire. You move with the speed of light.”

He grinned and slanted his upper body toward her. “Yeah, but we’ve got all that darkness brewing inside. Ironic, isn’t it?”

She swung away from him and took hold of the door handle. “Whatever. I’m tired, so you’ll understand if I don’t feel like hanging out and bantering with you. Besides, your dates are waiting for you.”

“Jealous?”

She snorted a laugh. “No. Sympathetic. Better them than me.”

“Why is it I don’t believe you?”

“Maybe because you’re delusional?” She gave him an overly sweet smile before turning away to jerk the car door open.

“I see you’re still pouting because I didn’t tell you I was once a big, bad vampire.”

“It doesn’t matter. You warned me early on not to trust you. I should have listened.”

“And now you should put on your big girl panties and get over it. You’re a hunter, Liberty. You need to toughen up.”

Toughen up? Was he kidding? She’d risked her life last night, had worked her ass off training, and he was calling her a wimp. To hell with him. She started to slide into the car, but his voice stopped her.

“You can be mad at me all you want, but you can’t completely shut me out.”

“Watch me,” she bit out, not turning around.

“Let me ask you something. What difference would it have made if you’d known in the beginning?”

She slammed the door and whirled on him. “At least I’d have known who—what—I was dealing with.”

“Would you still have let me train you?”

“I’m not sure. But I had the right to know. To have all the facts before making that decision.”

“If you had chosen not to let me train you, how do you think you would have fared last night? Not knowing the truth was for your own good.”

She gave a bitter laugh. “Yeah, and I’m sure you’re all about what’s best for me.”

“Look, you’re going to have to put all that behind you. Like it or not, you still need me.”

“No, I don’t. I’ll keep practicing. I’ll be fine.”

“You can’t take that chance. If I hadn’t saved your ass last night, we wouldn’t be having this conversation.”

Just like him to throw that in her face. She huffed out a sigh of irritation. “Thanks, but from here on out, I can take care of myself.”

He stepped closer, backing her up to the door. The only way she could get away from him was to climb inside the car. But she didn’t.

“What’s wrong?” He raised his eyebrows, amusement lifting the corners of his mouth. “Are you afraid of me now?”

She tilted her chin up and met his eyes. Eyes that were molten grey in the semi-darkness. “Not afraid. Pissed off. There’s a difference.”

He chuckled. “Well, it’s nice to know I have an effect on you.” His gaze dropped to her throat. “Your pulse is beating like crazy. Right here.” He stroked a finger down her neck, sending heat skittering over her flesh. Damn him. She sucked in a breath and clenched her teeth.

“I can see it.” He dropped his hand, and his gaze locked onto hers. “No matter how much you’d like to be, you’re not immune to me, Liberty Van Helsing.”

She swallowed hard, trying to slow her racing pulse. “I need to get home. Let me go.”

His lips curved in a grin, and his voice lowered to a near whisper. “I’m not touching you.”

A killer has something to say—and he’s using her obituary column to get his point across…

When columnist Monroe Donovan receives an obituary notice with a date of death two days in the future, she dismisses it as a typo. Then, a second incorrect obituary comes in, and a woman whose name matches the name of the deceased is murdered—on the date listed in the obituary. Now, Monroe realizes that something much more sinister is happening. A serial killer is trying to communicate with her.

She turns to Detective Lane Brody for help, but her attraction to him is complicating her already complicated life. And when the killer turns out to have a disturbing connection to Monroe, complications turn deadly.

Snippet

I went to work early on Monday morning, before anyone else arrived. I wanted to look up some information from when Katie was murdered. Our computers held software that couldn’t be accessed from my home terminal.

I left off all the lights, other than the one directly above my cubicle. Sipping from the mug of hot, strong coffee I’d just brewed, I scrolled through the limited data available about the murder.

The only viable suspect they’d had was Cameron Cooper. He’d been twenty-one at the time. He’d served three years for a rape that occurred when he was a juvenile.

I did a search on his name. He’d be forty-six now. I wondered if he were still alive, if he were still in the area. Had the police looked at him for Maya’s killing two years ago? I hadn’t found anything to indicate they had in my two years of research. Hadn’t found anything to indicate whether or not Cooper was still around. Was he in jail now for some other crime? Maybe another rape? Once a rapist, always a rapist. The question wasn’t had he done it again. The question was, had he been caught and convicted.

Nothing came up on the search.

A noise sounded behind me and I turned. A figure lurched toward me from the darkness. I let out a scream.

“Monroe? Is that you?” a male voice said.

My heart pounded furiously, but I recognized him now. Adam.

“Yes, it’s me.”

“What are you doing here so early?”

He came closer and in the circle from the light above me, I got a better look at him.

His clothing was wrinkled, as if he’d slept in it. His face, however, looked like he hadn’t slept at all. Deep lines etched the sides of his mouth and dark circles surrounded his eyes, their vivid green now dulled. His hair was uncombed. He smelled of stale cologne and sweat. He squinted at me, blinking like he was coming out of a daze.

“I came in to do some research,” I told him. “What’s wrong? Are you okay?”

He peered at the computer screen. “What kind of research?”

Adam knew about Katie, but not everything. In the two years we’d dated, I hadn’t told him half of what I’d told Lane.

“It’s not important,” I said, minimizing the web site I had pulled up. I repeated my question. “Are you okay?”

He shook his head, shoving a hand through his hair. Shaking his head again, he stared at me. For just a moment, I saw a longing in his face. The old feelings I’d buried surfaced briefly, my body responding to the look in his eyes. I shoved them aside.

“Adam, has something happened?”

“Did you read yesterday’s paper?”

“No.”

“Tabitha’s best friend.” He sighed and dropped into the chair next to my desk. I waited for him to continue. After a long silence, he did. “Tabitha’s best friend was…murdered.”

“Oh, Adam. I’m so sorry.”

He nodded slowly, staring at his hands where they rested on his knees. “Murdered. Tabitha’s a wreck. We were up all night.”

“How did it happen? Do they know who did it?”

“Not yet. She was stabbed.” He drew in a shuddering breath. “Murdered,” he said again.

Not knowing what to say, I sat silently. Reaching out, I placed a hand on his shoulder. I could feel him tremble beneath my fingertips.

“I need a drink,” he said.

“It’s six-thirty in the morning.”

He gave a weak grin. “It’s five o’clock somewhere.” Leaning back in the chair, he closed his eyes. “I can’t believe it. Can’t believe Laurel’s dead.”

A chill weaved its way through me and I shuddered. “Laurel?”

He nodded. “Laurel Lohman.”

My blood froze. I couldn’t speak.

Laurel Lohman was the girl’s name. The one in the obituary with the wrong date.
