Well, of course I do, I write fiction. I also make up towns in most of my stories. I like to create fictional places (with a local feel) so I can take creative license. (If I have a mayor or police chief or town doctor who’s a serial killer in a ‘real’ town, I might receive some less than favorable responses, am I right?)
When I created my world of Reapers for Soul Seducer, I knew they had to dwell in a place befitting the ‘somewhat’ undead. I had to have a reason why a particular area would have such a high concentration of Grim Reapers. So, I created a town called Boon Springs that was built on the site of a bloody massacre. The town has a history of tragedies, and I thought a name that contrasted with misfortune would make for a nice deviation. So, I called it “Boon Springs.”
Boon Springs is a sleepy little town in Oklahoma with quaint shops and lovely scenery.
However, Reapers are drawn to the town because of its horrific beginnings. A group of bandits massacred the town settlers years ago and took over the area for themselves. The leader of the bandits built an elegant mansion after staking his claim, but suffered a grisly end himself. Over the years, other families moved into the home, but most of them met with their own catastrophic fates.
Nowadays, the mansion is owned by the town of Boon Springs and is rented out for parties and celebrations. Who else but the residents of Boon Springs would turn a death house into a site for festivities? In Soul Seducer, there is a Halloween party at that very mansion. As you might guess…things do not bode well for one of the guests.

I love this site!!! I read because I like to be entertained TV, movies and reading-a good book will pull you in and if you are not reading you are thinking about the characters and feeling like your missing out-that is how I felt with Soul Seducer-I felt like I was missing what was going on with Audra if I wasn’t reading!!!! Not a vampire fan but you have pulled me to the darker side with your work before I am sure you will do it again 🙂

Thanks, Christi. I agree. If a book pulls you in where you think about it and the characters, even when you’re not reading it, an author has done his or her job. That’s a great perspective from a reader’s POV. I appreciate you sharing, and hopefully, you’ll like my Vampires as much as you did my Reapers.

Good post, Alicia. My ‘world to visit’ of choice is history. I love going back in time and finding out how people lived, what they wore, how they dressed. I guess that’s why I was a history major in college, and I write mostly historical romance. Best of luck with all your books.

I love reading because it’s an escape. I have a stressful job and there is nothing better than escaping to a new place — whether it’s a paranormal world, a different time or just a different person’s life — it’s the best!

I do love reading for the escape like most people, but I love romances especially because in most cases I’m ensured the HEA. After a long, crappy day at work, I love sitting back, relaxing, and escaping in a book that will leave me with a feel good feeling at the end. Real life can be a drag, so the more fantastical, the better. 🙂

I love reading, and do it whenever I can, in order to escape into worlds of fantasy and, hopefully, HEAs, though that isn’t a requirement. With the high stress job I have, I like to go along on adventures with great characters in different places (and worlds!), for at least a little while!
